I think we will have a good idea of where he is at after a few rounds. If he’s competing for wins it’s not impossible for him to 10 more wins over the next two years. If he does a one year only deal it most likely means things are not going well and getting to RV could be a stretch.

2015 x 3 wins
2016 x 1
2017 x 9
2018 x 8
2019 x 6
2020 x 7
2021 x 3

That’s a mean average of 5.3 wins per year.

If we drop his BIGGEST win score (2017) and his SMALLEST win score (2016) his mean average increases slightly to 5.4.

Its fair to expect Eli to score at least 5 wins next year.
I reckon he was ‘done’ with Kawi this year. And so he’ll bring fresh motivation and energy in to ‘22. But… it’s also fair to say his best days are behind him, so scoring a year of 9, 8 or 7 wins is a big ask.

I’m pretty solidly a Tomac fan, but if I were in Vegas and they offered a prop bet on the number of SX wins for Eli this coming season at 5.5, I’d probably take the under.

I think he’ll get 3-5, but I think that Ferrandis will get more wins than he does and there will be a couple more multiple event winners also.
I agree on Ferrandis. I think he is going to be a title contender, and get multiple wins in 2022. Ferrandis is 27 yrs old.

If you think Eli will get 3-5 and Ferrandis will get more than that, that will represent the turnaround of the century! That’s more wins in one season than the Yamaha 450 has had in the past decade!

He had trouble getting 3 wins last year on the most successful supercross team for the last 20 years. Now he's going to a team that's never won a race and one of the poorest performing bikes in SX history (minus Honda ofcourse). He can catch RV but unlikely to get the others.

I don't really care what color the bike is. I just think he will be happier over there and a happy Eli has shown to be untouchable at times.

#cableclutch is what he's been missing, he'll be able to feel it fade and adjust his riding. Or maybe we get to see a lot of shots of over heating Yamaha's this year lol.

As hard as he works a clutch , I wouldn’t be surprised to see a hydraulic unit on his new bike. Otherwise, expect to see him do a bunch of frantic clutch adjusting in the air over jumps this year.

Been following this thread, as I've been watching tomac since honda days on 250s. I personally think he's got a chance to win 5 races this year; including 1st round. His stablemate won a title as a rook on a 450, why wouldn't he be able to compete for title or top 3 in series with multiple wins? Don't care about good or bad from past Yami riders, I think he'll have late-career success on the blu ryd.

He'll pass RV, possibly Reed; but that's where it'll stop. Personally, I'd rather have Villopoto's or RC's SX titles than individual wins. But that's just me.

Bumping this after the win. He looks a lot better than I thought he would. Thoughts after A2?

I still think surpassing RC is going to be tough, but you never know.

I did say that I personally believed we would be seeing blue up front and looks like that's happening, and as a long time Yamaha fan it's great to see.

Turns out it sounds like he is pretty stoked about the cable clutch! Somewhere he said he likes it way more than hydro haha.

Im still baffled how he has this many wins and only 1 sx title.

if some one was to show me the list and having no knowledge of such, id think Eli has at least 3 SX titles.

Looks good on the bike and sounded so positive and upbeat on the pulp show last night, that was refreshing to hear.

Win a championship on your bad nights or really loose it on your bad nights.
In the past big whoops, bad night. Big pressure, bad night. His bad nights this year got him red plate though.
I hope his mind is stronger this year. Rewatch Salt Lake 2013 250 main
If he is comfortable on bike he trusts, he will win a bunch, and have good battle with JA21 for championship to the end where Jason's stronger mind may win it? Imagine still battling guy from mini's to pro 450 20 years later for top trophy.
Best season ever so far!

Probably because Keefer wasn't there to (accidentally) insult him! Laughing

Keefer told Tomac that he has “resting dick face” and Eli wasn’t on the show for a while after that. Grinning

You get more feel from a cable clutch and it's easier to maintain it throughout a race. A hydraulic one doesn't have the feedback, so it feels fine until it's not.

Yeah but it’s also crazy to think Reed and Stew only have 4 titles between them..

If Tomac can win the title this year his wins vs titles will be more normal

I think the biggest indicator of how many wins Eli gets this year is this next race.

If he can win back-to-back races that will be telling as he always did that in his good years.

Last year he could not pull it off.
