As a kid, I would have been riding all over that 70 acres until dark in 95 degree heat or when the ground was frozen. When I was a kid, many of my friends had video game machines. I never had one because I never asked for one. I thought playing video games was boring, and I still do. Not everyone thinks riding a dirt bike is fun or would have wanted to do it all day. I believe as a parent that your job is to expose your kids to as many different things as possible and let them run with what they like to do. I had to beg my parents to let me buy a dirt bike with money I saved up from mowing lawns and doing chores. I had to carefully skirt around through the neighborhood to get to where I could ride without getting in trouble, and would still occasionally get run off by the cops.
My son has a dirt bike, but zero interest in riding it. He also has a Nintendo Switch, XBOX, and Playstation that he rarely plays with. He is playing with lego right now as I type this.
Probably pretty hard to replicate the desire that is innate in someone like Chad, RC, James etc.. they're people who wanted to be the best... so questioning riding wouldn't have been a question until possibly burn out in a later career position.... they would have burnt more fuel in a year than many of us would have ever.
And then as a Parent, you got this super hard nosed, ex pro with a kid who's probably lived a pretty cushy life compared to most, not seeing any struggle like the parent would have grown up around, and it's just not the same experience so as much as you want to be understanding etc, it's just not the same....
Perhaps agree with the lesson but don't know it being on youtube does Tate any real good... but then again assuming it does no damage maybe it does. I do know TV and video games aren't good for kids tho, my two with an arvo of TV are different people, so we limit that shit hard and there is no way in hell video games are happening.

We can all say how we'd die to have the opportunities that Tate has, but what if you grew up with them too? I had the worst bikes and least amount of gear growing up and I swear the reason I had desire was to one day have the AXO kit, the liquid cooled bike, a box van. My Dad loved fishing, would take us any time (and did alot). In return, I go fishing like once a year and half ass it as an adult.
I applaud the Reed's. It would be really easy to "drop sick edits" of the kids and crap they have, but I enjoy watching them because their kids are real kids and watching Chad and Elle navigate and handle the same situations I have with my boy. IMO that was just a heavy dose of reality Chad dropped. And it has to happen. Kids need reality checks as much as they need praise. Respect for their channel grew
I know for me, most of my crashes have been on those days were I wasn’t fully into it and thinking other things were more important.
Get your downvotes ready as I add myself to the group of those that think this has no business being on Youtube. No child needs their vulnerable - and what should be private - moments filmed and uploaded. The father-son conversation they had was perfectly normal, but having a camera guy there moving around to keep his shadow off of Tate's crying face is FAR from it. I imagine knowing they are being filmed also affects how the situation played out to begin with - how could it not? As Chad mentioned, we all get to have our opinions, and to me this stuff is voyeuristic garbage. Gotta build that channel and revenue stream at all costs, I guess.
Edit- my kids are encouraged to get as muddy as possible, as often as possible... bikes too...
Pit Row
He rode it twice and decided fortnite was a better path, i sold the bike and slammed the xbox in the middle of our street while he watched. I have been right in chads shoes.
hats exactly what i did, not to mention he got pissed at the game and threw the controller at the family room tv and busted that over fortnite. So his actions became bratty, so i deleted the entire can of bullshit from our lives, you can say what you want but, the kids back now,
Gee, I wonder where he learned to translate his frustrations into an act of aggression from.
And be that soft, i was pissed in that moment that he destroyed our family room tv so i destroyed his xbox, end of story dude.
Say what you will about this particular episode, but between the Youtube channel, and their Instagram pages, the Reeds seem to be all about their kids, and by all accounts are really good parents.
Austin_Rankin: You may think you're making your son this hard-ass, non-pussified, manly man, but all you're really teaching him is that emotion driven tantrums are perfectly acceptable responses to stressors. Not something to be proud of, my man...
Next time ill support him in his decisions of throwing the controllers at the family room tv.
Ill say to him “yea man great job, another thousand dollars down the toilet over a free downloadable game” your on the right path son!
I grew up on a cattle ranch.
It taught me how to use fuck correctly.
"If I have to tell you to fucking get off that fucking gate one more fucking time, I'm going to fuck you up!"
I turned out OK.
