Whats the verdict

Did you expect him to be better than Anderson, cos i did. ?

Poor start and went nowhere in heat and main..

Got caught and passed by DF14, , and only moved forwards cos DF stalled and Mookie , Marv and Anderson crashef and AC dropped anchor.

Was almost invisible all night.

Anderson defffo the best of the new ride guys.

Big picture good. 6th is not his worst SX opener.

Short term, he looked fine I thought but his starts still suck and still doesn’t like jumping through whoops.

Hopefully see glimpses of beast mode soon otherwise another hero’s time might be coming to an end, I hate watching these guys wind it down.

If he can't get his starts sorted he will be in trouble all year.

Told my brother that the only thing that looked different was the color.

Tomac Tomaced. Got a lousy start and moved forward when the opportunity presented itself. You could have painted the bike green and it would have played out the same. His inability to get around the first turn in front is why Supercross titles have been so much tougher for him to achieve. If he ever gets a start, he certainly has the speed to win. Just like last year. And the year before…

The result was decent but the riding was mediocre. He got really fortunate that there was chaos all around him, he could've easily gotten 9th-11th without the crashes other riders had.

He'll bounce back though! I just think the days of 2017-2020 Tomac indoors are done, his peak is behind him and he's "just a regular" top rider these days that can win races when things click for him.

I said in another thread that he finished about where I expected, I actually had him finishing 5th. Personally, I don't think the Star Yamaha is going to be his saving grace like many do. There's an old saying...no matter where you go there you are.

DF14 and ET3 need to work the entire week on starts only. Maybe the 2 could pitch in and pay Mike Alessi for a few lessons.

Vince sure paid attention to those lessons!

When I saw his gate pick, it left me scratching my head. He was all the way inside to where his line was completely cut off 10 feet out of the gate. A super confident starter like Alessi can make that work. A guy who couldn’t holeshot the C class, not so much.

Both guys had worse nights than I anticipated. I thought DF would be riding w that confidence from the summer, and just charge right to the front, even if he got a bad start. Tomac I expected new life from. In qualifying, I thought Eli looked aggressive and I thought for sure it was going to be a big night from him. Only 1 round but looks like I was off in my estimations.

He’ll be fine ! I’m just glad that Kenny was able to put it on top of the box !
When Eli gets warmed up, he’s going to give Yamaha some SX wins and be in the hunt for a championship !

I'm going to state the obvious and mention that SX and MX are completely different animals.

Bad starters are gonna struggle with this field. Looked exactly the same as the last few seasons. He didn't really pass anyone that wasn't laying on the ground. Anderson had the worse score because of Barcia, but clearly rode better than tomac this round.

I expected slightly better but not far off of expectations. Had he gotten a better start, probably would have been irght where I had him, in 3rd.

He definitely didn’t look fast last nite and I was bummed to see it!! Only real gains he made were from the guys that crashed in front of him!! Do t know where his Beast Mode has gone but with starts like that he will need to find it fast or he will be way back in points after first month with rides like this!!

Why did he think a Yamaha would be a better fit for supercross???? I think barcia is the only Yamaha 450 SX winner in the last 10 years right? I’m probably wrong but it sure seems that long.

Oh wow, thanks for pointing that out, pal.

My point was, DF got that first year of 450sx out of the way. He finished the season with a couple decent rides. Then he really had a great summer in Nationals. So I expected him to have some more confidence coming into this year SX. Not that hard to understand.

Poor start and went nowhere in heat and main..

Anderson defffo the best of the new ride guys.

Anderson was faster and if he didn't screw himself he would have at least finished 2nd or 3rd.

Let the season play out.

But the truth is, Tomac's best years may be behind him. Hopefully not. Either way, it's only the first race.

He was moving forward and fast. He then lost his rear brake, tangled with another rider, stalled the bike, and then went down on his own one more time. He will be fine

Ya it was good that he at least advanced forward a little bit (before the mishaps.) Tomac seemed to not make many passes on his own.

The YZF was getting some bizarre acclamation in recent months regarding SX, ‘because Star’.

I can’t work out why people seemed to think it went from SX ‘pig’ to ‘bike to beat’ in an off-season..

Not good . I understand it's a new bike for him but he looked ordinary relatively speaking . He had 10th or 11th place speed and was fortunate a few guys in front of him had problems .

Eli did a great job as Yamahas new brand ambassador!

Wait, he was racing last night? Oh...

Btw, I’m a big fan of ET, he’s gonna be up front once he gets comfortable on the Yamaha.

Tomac looked good on media day and qualifying. Qualified 2nd and ended up 6th. I don't think he looked bad. More or less the same as last year just on a blue bike.

Ferrandis started something like 15th, was working his way towards top 5, stalled the bike in the whoops and it fell apart after that. Not sure what happened, but I think he'll get better.

All things considered, not bad.

Plenty of racing left!

Having "something left in the tank" wont get it done in SX. He might pick off 1 or 2 wins this year if the rest of the guys let him have a holeshot.
