Nope! Only Goodwin. He drew up the first track map on a napkin. Mickey did trucks in stadiums....long after Goodwin put on his first "Superbowl of Motocross" which was later coined "Supercross" by some news reporter I believe. It wasn't until about 1983 that Mickey partnered up win Mike.....and the rest is history.

A while back someone posted a link to a couple of videos of some Supercross type race. If I remember correctly it was from the 40's. I tried finding the thread a few months back, but I couldn't find it. If anyone knows the link please share.

Goodwin was the Godfather. He was also a complete asshole.
I have no idea whether or not he killed Mickey and Trudy-----Mickey stepped on a few other toes in his day, as do most highly successful businessmen.
That said, a jury has spoken.

Some people think it may have been his sister with nefarious involvement from the DA. There was LOTS left out of the trial.

No mention of gangsters/mafia Goodwin was getting his funding for the few SX he still had control over Thompson. No mention of the recent agreement between the two for a final payoff of 500K in gold from Thompson to Goodwin, in fact no mention of the gold what so ever I believe – No gold was found?!?

Nobody could carry that much gold on two bicycles. Lots of people went into hiding out of fear. – Lawyers, business associates, old employees of SMC. Goodwin felt/feels safer in jail. Most people involved are dead or getting old enough not to GAF anymore. Lots of questionable action from the DA re: his incarceration. Goodwin was lots things - Brash, Obnoxious, Rude, Arrogant, Boorish, Brilliant, and Fearless………but a Murderer??? I have my doubts and would like to think not. There is WAY more to this story – hopefully a great book to follow.someday

BTW, it was on a napkin at Julies the USC hangout across from Coliseum and I think the reporter was Shav Glick from the LA Times

I wonder if Goodwin would admit he stole the idea from the Czechs while sitting in his jail cell?

Aren't him and the soon-to-be up for parole OJ Dizzy
in the same facility in California?

I remember reading (possibly the Tom White article above) that the sister (?) was deeply connected in prominent circles and put huge pressure on the DA to bring a case forward. Unfortunately, that means there will always be a question as to the legitimacy of the proceedings, even if the verdict was righteous.

When artificial pressure forces a case to trial (to soon or in some cases at all), the equity of Justice goes out the window-even if the case itself might be legitimate.

It’s one of my great frustrations regarding many high-profile trials in the past 5-10 years…in most, additional info comes out afterwards that should’ve been considered before bringing a case forward. In the end, this taints the outcome even if the outcome itself would’ve been the same.

https://friends-of-michael-goodwin.webnode.com/ I believe there is a link on that page that links to the original Goodwin page, There's about a weeks worth of reading if all the original content is on both those pages.
The interviewer with Marty Smith was Dan Skahill. Dan made a heck an effort to become the voice of Supercross, a job ultimately given to Larry Huffman.

I went down that rabbit hole a bit. The first article I read was fascinating!

Actually, the people closest to the Mike Goodwin trial don’t think he did it. My dad was the controller for Stadium Motorsports Corp. SMC. He negotiated all the dealing between Mike and Mickey - and the Mob. They had just finalized their disagreement and there was a payment of 500k in gold that was in Mickey’s possession that has never been found - way too much to carry on bicycles by the proposed killers. Mike was in DEEP with the mob with no way to pay them back without SX and had already put forth and fifth mtg on his home to try and save the series. I have never seen a property title report with so many liens as his had. Mike did not want to get out of jail. He feels safer there – or at least he did. My dad went into hiding for years and wouldn’t mention this to anyone other than Mike, me and my brother. Mike does not want help getting out or for my dad to tell his story. My dad is gone now and so are all the other players, so I don’t give AF. Mike was held for years without even being charged! My dad suspected Mickey’s sister and Orange County politicians – obviously, there is lots more to the story but that’s all I’ll say about that. Most stories about Goodwin are true. I had a friend who’s step dad, Bill Doner went to school with him – almost went into biz with him, but ended up owning I think Sears Point or Seattle Speedway (Whichever one, It held a Nat on YouTube and Bill D. is the announcer), he also at one point owned Crystal Mountain Ski Area in WA, and the OCIR drag strip in OC CA (we used to ride the MX track at OCIR during the week)……Well he had crazier stories about Goodwin than my dad, that I won’t repeat on a public forum without verification – but I will throw out my doubt of his guilt.

I just worked with Mike Goodwin’s nephew in Oklahoma a couple months ago. He says he has a mint, never ridden kx500 with Mikes’ autograph on the front fender sitting in his garage. He got ir from his uncle as he was going to jail.

As far as the question from the OP- To, me Supercross is inside an actual Stadium. Daytona and now Atlanta are awesome and very entertaining but it’s not Supercross. It’s a speedway.

Walking into an fully enclosed (not roofed) Stadium and seeing the entire track before you is something unique and special.

I would say your picture is more like Daytona or Atlanta speedway. So yes, Mike Goodwin is The Godfather of SX.
