I just bought a 2017 expedition in Utah, they filed Kansas Sales tax there. When I got the plate in Wichita I had to get it inspected to make sure the VIN matched and then had to pay property tax on it, which was another $500, but the sales tax had been paid.

Yep, on cars, boats, houses, dirt bikes, ATVs, SXS's, trailers over 2000lbs... Gotta make up the billions that brownbackeconomics lost the state. Years of 400+ million shortfalls in your income taxes really fucks with the budget.

My local dealer informed me yesterday there will be a $15,000 dealer markup on the new Tundra.

Luckily this was through email, otherwise that poor, probably very honest, salesman would have had someone laugh in their face.

I was one of the first people in my area to order the new Bronco and agreed to buy it at MSRP. I could sell it for 20-25k over sticker right now even with 1,000 miles. This is the dumbest market right now.

Yeah. We’ll see about that.

People are going to buy Tundra's..

But, when there are 5 Toyota dealerships within a 50 mile radius, you’d have to be pretty desperate to agree to pay that, when the other 4 aren't adding $15k to the sticker price.

We avoided the extra cost by ordering our new work truck and negotiating the price before signing anything.
Ordered it in late June and it was delivered late August at the just below retail price we had agreed on.

The market worked for me. Traded in a Ram 1500 for a $5K profit after driving it for 4 years. Then talked them down $2500 on a new 2500 with a really low interest rate. I did get a bit lucky because my truck was being off loaded as I showed up for my appointment and would have been sold by lunch that day. The dealer was selling trucks as fast as they could get them.

My friend bought a new truck out of state and they showed him a letter from Chevy stating the dealer needed to charge them $3K more. They couldn't because everything was signed.

That dealer is full of crap, and super sleazy. dealer prerogative to market adjust their pricing.

If you think the truck world is crazy try shopping for exotic cars. I bought a 2019 Porsche 911 Turbo S last February for $175k, they are selling for well north of $200k now. Some as much as $220k. Keep in mind the sticker on these cars is around $210k on average. McLaren, Lambo, Porsche... you name it... it's insane.

Hyundai plant Montgomery AL. A lot of new cars sitting, see bad pic. Trying to control prices maybe ? I delivered large steel barrels of paint. A bit unorganized they had no idea where the paint went to.

I just bought a 21 transit van, waited about 3 months for it. Stickered for 46, paid 43 plus tax, now I have dealers wanting to buy it for 53. Probably going to let it go.

I think commercial use is what drives the prices up. A guy who just wants to haul his bike around balks at a $15k mark up. But a construction worker or a plumber or a window installer will pay that extra $15k because it means he can still make his $150k that year. And the purchase will be written off anyway (so that $15k extra is really $10k extra).

I planned on a new tundra this year as they are all new. My 2012 tundra has only 85k miles… Looks like they are coming in around March? I’m down in Florida for the winter, planned on buying one down here but I”m not desperate to buy in this market, looks like I will wait another year….

Last week we drove by some new car dealers in Tempe area, the Nissan dealership looked like it had gone out of business (they aren't).

There were spaces for about 250 cars in the front lot, they had about 6 out near the street and a few more in front of the sales lobby area. Looked really odd seeing so few new cars at such a major dealership.

There were more employee cars than cars for sale.

I’m not sure on what planet any self employed guy is cool with paying an extra 15K, I’m buying used instead of new because I didn’t want pay an extra 4K over list.

Don’t blow off the idea off completely. I know of several Toyota dealers in my area that refuse to sell a new vehicle above MSRP/window sticker. My daughter ordered a 22 TRD Pro 4Runner ,picked it up at exact window sticker of $ 53k and change — sold her 19 4Runner for 48k. Went up 3 years into a loaded Pro for 5,000.

And your 12 Tundra with good miles will NEVER be worth more than it is right now. The used truck market prices are approx 25% higher than normal,

My advice to consumers is to use this crazy market to benefit yourself. It definitely can be done.

Maybe I’ll start selling pieces of my property in 1 square foot increments. Then y’all can register them here.

I felt a little bit guilty getting my 740Li xDrive because we were initially looking for something for my wife. She had really been wanting something like a Toyota Rav4, so I started looking at them somewhat passively and the prices were way out of line for a 1-2 year old pre-owned unit. Finally saw one that was mostly loaded up but didn't have leather seats, which she didn't care about anyway. It seemed like the big demand was for the top line models and the base models, this in between one was actually reasonable comparatively. Got her a 21 with 11K miles and the CPO warranty extended out to 7/100K bumper to bumper for less than a lot of the base models were priced at to begin with.

The dealer we bought it from was extremely busy that day, so it sure looked like a lot of cars were leaving the lot.....

We bought a 2020 RAV4 at the end of 2019 before all this nonsense started. We got the “LE” (least expensive Laughing ) model, 2 wd non hybrid. It’s got 51K miles on it now. I can honestly say it’s one of the best cars I’ve owned. @ 70-75mph it gets 35 mpg. I’ve gotten over 40 when I “try” to get good mileage. I gave up on a new truck but found this 2017 TRD Offroad edition with all the bells and whistles so I bought it yesterday. 52K miles for 38K’. Had a clean car fax and drove good so I said fuck it and pulled the trigger.

The only problem with waiting is the used car prices will certainly plummet sooner rather than later. So while you may get a new truck $10,000 cheaper when this shit show gets sorted out you’ll most likely get $10,000 less for your used truck.
