Sounds like he has *some* feeling? I’m far from an expert but is that a good sign or too hard to tell?

Shitty deal I hope he makes a full recovery

Every case is different. When it comes to SCI injuries it's complicated. With an incomplete SCI injury you can have feeling below the injury level, but it doesn't mean that you'll regain any mobility.

That said, people with incomplete injuries stand a better chance at getting some or all of their mobility compared to people with complete SCI injuries.

Still absolutely sucks!

That's devastating!

I'll reserve my opinion.

Scott Oltman was entered in Pasha 125cc 50+ Pro class...went 20-DNF. It's in the Sunday results from GH that weekend. If you check the AMA rankings on results.americanmotorcyclist.com, you'll find him listed as a A level Offroad rider, and C in MX. I'll reserve judgement as well. I hope he recovers quickly and completely

Yeah, I sat upon the flag stand for 15 years .
No way I let 50 plus go with pros.

Old pros or not.

I didn't put kids with fasties either.

Just horrible, praying for Scott🙏

That first jump face seems to always get beat. Looked to me like Mike got sent a direction he didn’t plan on. Lost a buddy in that spot a while ago.

I have been checking this post just to monitor how the downed rider was doing…. This is unbelievably tragic and should have never happened. I don’t know Scott personally but sending positive thoughts his way for a full recovery…

Wow such horrible news definitely sending good juju his way. So many people are so quick to rush judgment without knowing any fax. I would imagine Mike to not see the rider ahead of him like that why would he put his own self in danger. Also we don’t know if the rider who got hit Why he was going slow. Did he have been tired? Did he crash somewhere else before and get her and was riding back to the pits? Was he having a bite issue? This could have been any ride or even in the same class as Mike if he had any of the issues above.

But I will agree that I don’t think it’s the best idea to run a 450 pro class with a 50+125 class. What even is worse is that where the hell were the flaggers? That could’ve been even worse if one of these guys who came feet away from the down riders hit them.

When does bad luck become bad decisions? Mike's had a lot of bad luck.

Not sure how you came to that response from what I said. I literally said we grew up with it and know nothing different. I never said it was the best way or the right way to do it.

That's super sad. This whole situation was so avoidable on a couple different levels that the frustration factor is definitely multiplied for me.

If you check the photos on the previous- there was a flagger on the face of the jump waving a blue flag. There was no time to put out a yellow.

Same here. As long as he can make a full recovery, all the other stuff becomes less important. Paralysis is the worst news and I really hope this guy can become independent again and not get crushed by debt . Sucks all the way around .

I haven’t looked at this thread since it started and hadn’t heard anything on the rider hit, looks like his name is Scott. I was hoping there would be some good news on him. Dang that’s too bad. Hoping the best for he and his family.

Mike was clear on the right of the track when he landed on the previous jump. Slower rider was middle-left…mike jumped from right to left on a blind jump…stupid decision when you know there are lappers everywhere…now a man is paralyzed. Completely avoidable from a track organizer standpoint and a ‘pro’ rider standpoint.

Shittiest news in a long time. Hoping for a full recovery.

I know Jeff is here sometimes.

If he read this, please ask Mike to call every pros he knows for the gofundme ; it sucks and it can happen to any pro riders so hopefully he can convince them to give a shirt or something for an auction that will go to the injured rider. On this kind of things he can't go MIA. It happens, it sucks, but if he is too impacted, try to help your brother to help another moto brother. Thanks

To piggy back on this they classify sci injuries as Complete on incomplete using the ASIA standard. Think of your spine as a highway. With either side as motor function/sensation. Your nerves can be damaged by pressure from swelling, trauma, or being moved. In my situation the cord was kinked because I bursted my T10. Since he has some feeling this early is a good sign as rule of thumb is it takes up to 1 year for swelling to reduce in your spine. He clearly has a higher injury due to it being shoulder down. Rough stuff.

I’ve sent him a few messages, not because of the situation but because I went threw his injury. I even sent him my experience and the video of the crash. I pray he gets all his motor functions back and told him to talk to me when he can.

I just got an email from gofundme, showing Scott in PT, moving both his arms and left leg. A long road, but awesome nonetheless.

You actually make my point for me.
This situation totally sucks.
We're praying for Scott.
But a slower rider should always hold his (or her) line. Mike was drifting wide to the left, the rider was in the middle of the face.
Then moved to the left (to get out of the way?), that's the problem. If a faster rider is coming just hold your line. Don't move left, don't move right. Just hold your line and the faster rider will get by.

The reports I've read so far were that he was taking the pre-determined exit point off the track and used the time-tested hand-over head signal we all use to indicate getting off the track. I don't think that Scott is to blame for anything here.

Hand over what? I've never heard of that. All I've ever known is 'HOLD YOUR LINE '.
