I just picked up a '22 150SX. The dealer informed me of the new law but I didn't care. I only ride/race MX on a track. I've never really been interested in trail or other types of riding. When I was a kid there were lots of "tracks" to ride on around where I lived (Oceanside, CA) - they were just tracks we made that were located on someone's private property. Now all those places are gone - Home Depots, strip malls, etc. So for me, a race track is the only place to go. So the new law doesn't affect me right now. I do feel for all you guys who do the other types of off road riding though. I love California in general - but crap like this, the gun laws here, the liberals, definitely take away from the appeal for sure.
There once was a time that a REALLY bad-ass sand track existed at Camp Pendleton

Didn’t hear about that one! We had tracks at Lake Caliveras, Heiny Hills, over where Texas Roadhouse is at El Camino & 78 , and the best was behind the Vons at El Camino & 78. Another good one was just off the 78 in San Marcos at Sycamore

I feel bad for You guys crying about transplanted Cali people. Almost like it is a planned attempt to infect the rest of the US. Jkn. I would think if they had the balls to move they feel the same way your state does.

You couldn't be more wrong. Nevada has turned blue due to the influx of liberal Californian's. Things continue to get worse here due to the liberals.

I'm going to buy one of those brand-new YZ250s. I will ride it wherever the fuck I want, because it pollutes the same amount on a track as it does on public land. If I ever get stopped by a ranger, I'll gladly sign the ticket, and I'll say "shame on you" to his or her face.

Yes, the ban sucks but doesn't affect MX at this time for me. Even in Prairie City OHV, the Hangtown track is unaffected by Red/Green sticker within the fenced track boundary. Sort of funny - two stroke/red sticker four stroke on this side of the fence is OK, but not on the other side.

But I heard a ranger say if you even unload a bike on the "park" side they'd ticket you if it wasn't registered for the season. Drive through to the track, OK.

Another time at Carnegie, DMV had sent me the wrong color sticker for my bike (Green - year round OHV access) and the Park Ranger spotted it on the way in, ripped it off my bike, and sent me home. No ticket though because I showed Ranger my matching registration. Yeah - I knew the green sticker was wrong but I figured I'd push it since it was sent to me. Didn't know how sharp the Rangers were with the bike/sticker combo.

When I first started riding I went to Carnegie often and it was always a crap shoot on if they would enforce anything or not. I took my yz there for years with no title I just used the sticker off our crf70

I rode a local track here on Saturday and I’d say Atleast 1/3 of us riding were California locals who left. TN people are welcoming if you make it clear you won’t vote for the stupid stuff that ruined CA. But more and more of us are coming so I think they are starting to be over it lol

Isn’t that just giving the state more money? What happens if they show up at your favorite trail riding spot every time you want to ride?

There are SO many places to ride where...
You aren't worried about a "head-on"; because, you aren't out here with a bunch of other riders...
You aren't gonna see a ranger.
You can ride alllllll sorts of BLM land where the LEO's don't care about anything but you havin' a good time...safely.
You'll probably even get thru the gate at State Parks...because, believe it or not...A LOT of those peeps working there are "on your side"...

Note: there are other ways and places to register your bike...even get it plated.
*Note II: If ya REALLY don't wanna give California your money...buy it "somewhere-else" and register it there.

Asterisk Explained: You CAN buy a bike out of state LEGALLY...it has to stay 'out of state' for a certain amount of time in order to NOT pay sales tax.
Been there
Done that

I am a life-long (moderate) democrat and I accept the science of climate change; this ranks up there in stupidity with CA banning foie gras. As someone who wants people to vote democratic, stuff like this pains me. Why do liberals make it so easy to hate them? Stop pulling this BS and focus on the real drivers of C02 emissions.

I’m out for the season with injury so I started helping the local xc series with registration. Over the weekend I met 3 people that has moved from Cali to ky recently. And that’s just 3 happened to get in a conversation with about it could have been more. One of them signed up with the other person working registration and I overheard their conversation. She asked why him and his girlfriend moved here and he shrugged his shoulders and said something like “why not”

That’s bold of them. When I finally get to leave this state I’m removing license plates and selling my lead free at the border. Anyone asks I’m from Kazakistan.

One of the dudes I signed up said he sold everything he owned, bought an RV and drove out here. I thought that was pretty cool.

I met a family yesterday that had just sold everything and was purchasing a new RV and headed to Tennessee. If I didn’t work for the state of California I would have been gone years ago.

I live in San Diego and I love it here. Came out here from New England 7 years ago and I would not move back. Expensive, yes, but the quality of life and living in a vacationland makes it worth it for me.

Based on this thread it appears everyone is moving out so it may get kinda lonely being here by myself in the future tho.....

This.

Also, in the state park where I most commonly ride, I've ridden right past dozens of rangers who have never even batted an eye. This has been happening for 30 years now, and I have never even once had a sticker of any color on display. I doubt a ranger will ever pull me over. I'm taking my chances.

Hope the other motorcycle manufacturers do as Yamaha did, give California the middle finger and pull up stakes. Unfathomable as to why ANY of them would elect to stay in California with the current political climate.

Yamaha didn't actually move out.

"Yamaha’s Cypress, California location will continue to be comprised of its senior executive offices, numerous corporate administrative functions, motorcycle racing and testing, and the western parts warehouse. Also, Yamaha’s New Business Development Division, including Power Assist Bicycles and Power Assist Wheelchair Systems, and the retail finance, insurance and corporate functions of Yamaha Motor Finance Corporation, U.S.A. will continue to operate at the West Coast base of operations."

I with ya! From Louisiana and not going back. Been here 4 years now. My wife and I always joke that it still feels like we are on vacation. I feel for the desert riders, the regs stink, fear mongering runs a muck, don’t think it’ll ever change/go back but it is what it is. I’ll do my part and vote pro OHV and I’ll continue ride my 2 stroke at the track for as long as I can.

Give us an update if you don't mind sharing when you find out what you do or don't get from the DMV. There are some rumors of people having red stickers arrive in the mail anyway.

I don't understand why anyone would want to live in California. You give all your money to taxes, so many restrictions, mask mandate and lockdowns galore, run by piss poor leadership, and you can't ride two strokes. What a dumpster fire.

Mask mandate has been gone for over a month and you can ride two strokes. Where do you suggest we all go? It’s happening everywhere

Another interesting approach: You can probably find...this upcoming winter...a "parts bike" that provides you this opportunity and some good spare parts.
Manny, I still don’t quite grasp your concept.

How do you get the bike registered and pass CARB inspection when the VIN frame # and engine serial # don’t match?

There is no "Carb Inspection" when you go to the DMV with a bike that has a...say...2009 frame. Especially if you get the title with the old frame. You just re-register it/re-title it as the new owner (I've seen this done).

Also, if you are going register the bike anew with the new motor in the old frame? You usually go to CHP to have them validate the frame # and they can help with how to "handle" the engine ID issue. A lot of those guys are on your side, too.

Not LA County. We are back under mask mandate indoors.

Thanks for the response.

Just to be clear, CARB wasn’t involved with registration in the past but they will be going forward in 22? Is that correct?
