Saddleback Park II - November 2001 - Thanksgiving weekend I think- - In the middle of the track there was a fair sized double table jump they used as a start finish line, with single kicker about 80 feet past the double.

No one was jumping all three, but out of nowhere a guy on a KX125 is just killing all three jumps in one massive leap head over the fender.

Other riders pulled off to watch with amazement (me included) as this guy just murders this track lap after lap.

James may not have have the most championships, but I think few people would disagree that he was the fastest man to ever ride a motocross bike. Even Ricky Carmichael said he was scared trying to keep up with JS

1998 - LL qualifier in Georgia. I finished second in 250 A and he was at least 3 seconds a lap faster than me in his supermini.

Has anyone got anything on I think it was the Mini Olympics where him and Srijbos went at it?
Pretty sure I remember this, could have been world championships?
Edit,found a thread on it,Gaildorf 1999,first time I'd heard of him,incredibly fast,some footage in Mini warriors

go to 6:12 in the vid and let it play for a few seconds Smile

edit: The track layout that year was awesome! The big banked turn at the bottom of the skier was rad as hell. Villipoto would ride the cush while never letting off. I remember that day like it was yesterday. James and Ricky spent everything they had pushing each other.

Watching that video, it doesn't look like the dudes today are going any faster than that.

Had heard about him even before the first Terrafirma, but I didn't know what I was seeing. He came to the Kawasaki Race of Champions a bunch when he was on minis, but I still was never blown away.

Finally saw him on big bikes winter of 2000 at Dade City around the Mini O's. I couldn't believe he was going that fast. He made the pro guys look like amateurs...and HE was technically the amateur!

First time I saw him scrub in person I believe was 2004 Budds Creek. He was scrubbing the tabletop (what is now the finish line) along the pit road area. I actually yelled out of shock because I didn't really know what I was seeing. It looked like he was about to crash or something, and then he was back on the ground and charging away before I could even comprehend what I'd just seen.

His last year at Loretta's. Pretty sure he never touched the brakes at any point. Everyone standing at the fence had our jaws on the ground.

Millville whoops on the KX 125. I don't recall the year but it was insanity.

That was my first year going to Washougal. 14 year old me had no idea what I just saw when he scrubbed the Chuck Sun past a local pro named Matt Rambo, going what looked like literally twice as fast as him. He became a Moto god to me that day, then I met him and his dad and they were really cool

That shot was 04 Washougal.

2002 Hangtown first time seeing James ride live.

Man I wish they had the coverage they have now back when Stewart was at Loretta’s. Would be so awesome to see some of that old footage

I used to take a few snaps back in the day and, when you were on the infield at an SX leaning over to get an angle, it became clear quickly that the only thing holding back James were the laws of physics - and even those didn't work the way they were supposed to with him.

On a pw50 at Ponca city. I noticed that he and his family stood out...as did I...so it was interesting to see another person of color. Didn’t matter to me one bit but back in the 90s it wasn’t common at a motocross track. Didn’t realize he would change the game...

In the early 2000’s TransworldMX would post video edits regular (Was is thursday theatre? Or was that racerX?) and it would feature footage of James quite often. I could not believe what I saw in the video where James is practicing at a local track. So much speed, agression and control over the bike.

I saw him for the first time in person at the Kenworthy national and was blazing fast, but for me it was the 07 Indy SX. He went from either dead last or 2nd to last to first and was riding a different track then everyone else. I grew up watching Jeff Gibson ride locally and my jaw dropped when he went by him like he was sitting off the side of the track. Then I specifically remember him also next lap or 2 passing DV12 in the whoops and hitting the quad into the corner. It was the most unbelievable thing I had ever seen on a dirt bike.

I forget what year it was, but there were massive whoops leading to a triple. None of the lower seeded 250 guys could get through them and even the 250A guys had a really hard time. First lap of practice, James skims them like they are nothing and even wheelies the last couple, then proceeds to throw a nice scrub in the triple. I was always in awe of how fast he got around a supercross track.

I’ve only seen him at Millville and he always rides well there. The first time was his perfect season and he appeared to be out for a trail ride that day. 85%

First time I saw him would've been Matterley Basin 06, also saw him Donnington Park '08, and lastly Paris Supercross 2015

To be honest at both of the MXON I saw him he was amazing obviously, but seeing on a Supercross track was the real eye opener - he didn't perform well that weekend but just the finesse and skill he had to navigate around that track was on another level, unexplainable really, just the way he would attack certain sections and obstacles, the throttle control, floating through the whoops... unreal and I can't name another rider with the same finesse & flair to riding.

Only got to see JS7 in person at Matterley MXON in 2006, he was throwing whips over this huge step down for the fans. Facing completely the opposite way and bringing it back like it was nothing. Never seen anything like it before then or since, was in absolute awe stood there watching.

I remember him jumping into the whoops that day and by the time he was out of em the race was already over. He was on a trail ride that year after Alessi got hurt.

I was there. I remember standing in the pro section. After the 1 st lap you just hear him coming through the woods. Sounded like he was practicing by himself, couldn’t hear another bike.👀 i guess he was practicing by himself .
