You make it sound like the Renen stuff is bespoke custom product all stitched by hand using only the finest textiles. It’s not. It is nice gear but your comparison sucked and it’s ok to admit it😂
You’re the super annoying type of person that can’t fathom 2 people having completely different perspectives of the same topic.

Like I said, there’s an ass for every set of pants. Enjoy your Ocelot or whatever shit you wear.

Clearly many think different than you because the shit sells out almost immediately.

No I’m the kind of guy who told you that you used a shitty example and you can’t seem to grasp that simple concept while you try to turn it around and tell me I cannot fathom a simple concept which I’m clearly capable of doing. You are doing a great job of showing your lack of emotional intelligence by lashing out and slipping in some underhanded insults about my possible gear choices😂 Get a grip.
It’s nice gear made in the USA, it’s not fucking bars of gold like you seem to be suggesting.

I've worked my way into Director of Field Operations for a rather large Oil & Gas company, I didn't get there from lacking emotional intelligence.

You said Renen isn't a bespoke custom product. You do realize they use sublimation for custom name/number, as opposed to simple iron-on's that add weight and attract sweat, correct? You do realize they use fine textiles and are manufactured in the US by hand, correct?

Comparing it to Kia vs. Toyota is actually extremely far off. Toyota is manufactured the exact same way as Kia. From what I understand from people in the auto industry, Toyota's quality has gone down significantly as they now build and produce all around the world and Kia quality now meets or exceeds.

Don’t forget the US has higher wage minimums plus all the other costs associated with hiring an employee (employment taxes) contribute to the high price tag not just “quality”. Bet this gear lasts the same as my TLD gear but with out the price tag. Whatever floats your boat! At the end of the day it’s 80% looks 20% skill. Laughing

Interesting that JT or Max mentioned a few weeks ago that USA produced gear would be crazy expensive yet Renen is sold out.
Just to add some more context to your statement they also mentioned that there is a labor shortage in the USA right now that factors into that. I'd imagine Fly is putting out much more volume than Renen right now which would require more bodies. They also said that they weren't even sure there is a facility in the states who could even handle what they do. Which i'm guessing may have something to do with the volume they push out compared to Renen.

Manufacturing is super tough in the USA right now. Factories are being forced to up wages just to get people to work which in return is either going to hurt the margins or cause inflation of prices.

Renen is made in a 8-10,000 sq ft building a quarter mile down the road from our race car shop in Brownsburg Indiana. It’s called Fox uniform. They will never be a high output company like fly unless they expand. Everything is done online. They will never be a dealer item. I walked in to look at the gear and they didn’t even have any displayed in their lobby. They lost my business when I couldn’t even walk in and buy some.

The thing is the volume that it takes to keep the machine running of a big gear company like fly or fox or Thor can’t be achieved by making it here. Also it doesn’t appear that the Renen stuff is really using any cutting edge materials like all the big brands are using as they probably just aren’t even available here. I’d absolutely love to buy high end/high performance USA made gear but its extremely unlikely to happen. Not knocking the renen stuff at all but it appears to be pretty ‘basic’ but made of durable materials. Glad he’s making the effort for sure and no doubt he will sell every bit of it.

The issue is that WPS/Fly would still want the same profit margins on a set of USA gear vs. an imported set.

So let's say they are paying $50 US for a set of imported pants and jersey, that set is then marked to $200 MSRP which results in a 4x profit margin and $150 for each set sold.

Now if they make the same gear set in the US input costs double to $100 per set, they can't MSRP the set at $400 (4x profit margin) and expect them to sell. The customer might accept a small % markup in MSRP to buy USA made, but they won't pay $400. So if they raise the MSRP to $225, that's a $125 profit on each set of gear.

I get JT / Fly / WPS has to run a business and they constantly managing input costs to maintain certain profit margins, but they make it sound like its impossible to do USA made, when in fact that is not reality, they just don't want to take the profit loss at the MSRP price points they know they can move product at. JT made it sound like a US made gear set would be ungodly expensive which is why I immediately thought they are looking at it from the perspective that they are UNWILLING to reduce their profit margins and would rather continue to import.

This conversation is waaayy bigger than just gear manufacturing as we all know.

Interesting. I was wondering if that was the case when I saw the Indiana flag logo on the pants on the first page, wouldn't have expected that...

I wonder how long this company will be in business. I hope it's a long time. The more gear companies, the better imo. I don't like the fact that everything is not made in the U.S. but there's only so much you can do. Most Americans want a good product but don't want to pay the price. This is why mostly everything is out sourced. People want $17 an hour to work at McDonalds but I'm willing to bet, the kid making our gear overseas, isn't making $17 a week. Sad but true. Unfortunately, the only way to keep cost down is to out source everything. Hopefully, it will all change but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

You forget there is an extra level of markup in fly/fox etc because they sell to the dealer. Pete is selling direct to the consumer so that takes way less margin also because he doesn't have to worry about a dealer making money too. That is why the price would have to go up so much on a dealer sold brand. And brands like fly need to make a much higher margin because they have riders to pay for, series to sponsor, large design staffs, reps, etc. Pete has what, 2 riders? Again, not knocking RENEN at all but he has much lower overhead to worry about compared to the big brands.

There’s an ass for a Kia seat and an ass for a Rolls Royce seat.

Most that drive the Kia will scoff at the RR price tag without thinking of the craftsmanship going into the car. Or they just don’t prioritize that and want the most bang for the buck.

The fact Renen is made in the USA is a huge value. I bet some of you who are disgusted by the price tag are also aware of the spot we’ve put ourselves in by depending on overseas countries like China to produce our goods.

I don’t wear Renen, but I understand and appreciate their place in the market.
As do I. I totally understand the gear purchases as gear is something that is needed to ride moto. Their stuff does look nice and being made in the USA is a great reason to support them. My post wasn't so much about the price as it was the psychology of sales, marketing, and perceived value - being impressed with the paper and envelope is a SUPREME example of that.

Ever own a high end car?? Like an amg Mercedes??? I have... terrible cars overall, would take a decent Kia over one any day for actual day in day out driving... high end marketing does not make for a great product.... another example? Just got an ecodrive watch.... thing is crazy on point.... keeps a lot better time, and wears better than my monaco... remember the old saying "u get what u pay for"... that is just marketing, not the real world....

I dont understand the obsession with "made in the USA." Who cares? Its still just a hoodie (or gear whatever), that will last as long as the other medium to high quality stuff like Fly, Seven, Fox, Thor, etc. The only thing youre paying for in the USA is a higher paid employee, who probably hates his job, and and all the taxes and benefits a business has to pay here. I work in the trades, and a perfect example for me is roofers and drywallers. Most are Hispanic and some people wont hire them for that. Every non-american crew Ive seen works their ass off and gets twice as much done for way less. I would much rather have one of those crews vs some white dudes who completely hate their job and think they should be getting more money.

I wouldn't say it's "economics 101". Not all economists agree on whether it is good or bad to use international manufacturing. It's probably more of an Economics 402 subject.

Harley Davidson used this model for years until the public decided otherwise... They only built 95% of the demand, put people on "The List", until the bike they ordered showed up at the dealer. In the meantime the other manufacturers got their shit together and produced "Victories", and "Indians", and people quit waiting on "The List". They even bought liquid cooled "VTX's" and other Japanese bikes. Prior to Covid, you could walk into an HD dealer and buy the bike right off the floor. People will pay for exclusivity, until a better option arrives...

Damn.... We have a family friend who has worked at a Harley dealership for years, and you said the EXACT same thing he said last time we talked. They just aren't the "elite" they once were to the masses, times have changed. Folks have moved on....

I’m not saying the other brands aren’t producing a better cruiser, but before Covid you could walk into any metric dealer and buy cruisers that were many times several years old but new on the floor. The cruiser market was hanging on by a thread, that’s why new Harley’s were readily available.

Hopefully your post gets removed! Most AMERICANS.....No matter who or where they are from are hard workers. MADE IN USA will always be better than made in CHINA! IMO. Now...Made in Japan dirt bikes are good Smile Thanks Pete for putting AMERICANS to work!

Digging up this thread to help anyone looking to order. I received my Renen order today. I usually wear Shift/Fox, but I didn't like any of the '22 Fox gear, and I thought Shift was dead (until yesterday). The Renen stuff is pricey, but my first impressions are that it's top notch. Also, getting a sublimated jersey and pants that are made in America for the same price as Fox Flexair/ Shift Blue label seems like a pretty fair deal.

Branded delivery box:

Contents (jersey, pants, gloves, and receipt)

Sublimated jersey. I figured if DiFrancesco fit on a jersey, so would Bocchicchio. **NOTE FOR SIZING** I'm a Medium in Fox 360 and Shift Black Label, but a Large in Fox Flexair and Shift Blue Label. I ordered a Medium Jersey and it is definitely a more athletic fit. It's not Justin Barcia tight on me, but I'll probably order a Large jersey on the next go around.

Nice big leather patch at the knees. They feel pretty robust and hopefully they hold up against my knee braces. Time will tell.

The pants have more ripstop than most high end pants that I've worn, but there is elastic material where it counts (around the waist, crotch, and knees)

I'm always blowing through gloves, and I really appreciate the attention to detail with the rubber tips. Maybe I'll get more than 3 or 4 rides out of these.

Overall, very happy with the purchase and I'll very likely order again.

Interesting that JT or Max mentioned a few weeks ago that USA produced gear would be crazy expensive yet Renen is sold out.
The issue is profit margin 100%. Fly has to be able to make 30-60% when they sell to their dealers who then needs to make the same or close to it from the end user. Renen produces the product and sells direct at likely the same margin. The cost to produce is definitely more, but the consumer gets a similar price tag because there is not a "middle man" (dealer).

This is why Fox/Troy Lee/Oakley/100% etc all sell direct now as well as to dealers. When you buy something direct from Fox, they are essentially doubling their margin since they didn't sell to a dealer first.

Yo Kyle... you sound like you have not owned any high-end cars before... but you have certainly soaked up the marketing...

kinda like how a monaco isn't half the watch of an eco-drive... sometimes you truly pay for the brand name... cars and watches are certainly two of those industries...
