I agree, but 2 failures in 3 weeks is a bad look. I wonder if they are running lighter weight chains than normal this year?

It sounds like someone is putting the clips on backwards to me.

That, or Husqvarnas are just put together with duct tape and ticky tack.

Didn’t Martin Davalos have a chain break on a husky during practice in 2018 or 2019? Pretty sure someone else missed half a season a few years back due to a husky chain break.

PC uses RK as well and so does my team. Weve never experienced an issue and I’d take a shot in the dark by saying we run ours longer than Rockstar Husqvarna does. I would be curious to know what part failed on the chain, as oddly enough the DID and RK failures I’ve seen the past few years on race teams were actually related to a press link and not a clip style master link.

Unfortunate coincidence.

I’ve ran the RK GB520MXU for about 7 years now on my 450’s and never an issue.

RK chains have been my go to for the last few years. I never had a single issue and I run the riveted master lung on my off-road bikes and clip style on my moto bikes.

That being said, I have switched to Mika Metals premium chains this year and also their sprockets and have had the same good luck with both styles of master links.

There’s only three reasons a well maintained fresh chain will break:
1. A manufacturing fault (unlikely)
2. Too tight (unlikely in this case?)
3. A foreign object (e.g. rock)

RK chains are known to break.
I broke 2 in a day. Both brand new.
Switched to DID ERT - not broken a chain since 2017.

I broke an RK chain years ago that had 30-40 hours on it. Came off coming out of a LH corner so I'm leaning toward a rock hitting the clip but haven't gone back to an RK since 🤷.

The DID chains aren’t what they use to be, IMO.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the RK chains.

Breaking a chain on a 250f is a bit of an anomaly. I know there have been issues of chains breaking on 450's in recent years due to the increased horsepower. I'm thinking the riveted masterlink somehow failed or it was a fluke failure of the chain itself. I do find it odd that KTM and another Japanese manufacture had chain recalls. I wonder if the Covid shutdowns affected material quality or manufacturing quality.

This post didn’t age well.

The number of chain failures this year is troubling. Is the raw material supplier forging metal certifications? Because that stuff happens, supplier says this metal meets X specs and in fact it doesn’t. Just speculating there.
