Had a nice long career, and finally got to show he had decent 450 speed several times. Sucks it ended a little prematurely but you've gotta know when to cut the cord. Who is the next guy out there who's had the longest career now?

I would say Brayton (2002) followed by Chisholm (2004).
I have a weird selective memory with Brayton, I don't ever remember seeing him in the results until he got on the muscle milk KTM team in... 07 or 08 on a 250? No idea if I'm remembering that right. Started following the sport around 2001-2002 so I should remember him.

Yep, it was a bummer to see him go out like that.
I ragged on Marty for not stepping up from 250 A LOT, and now good he was on a 450 backed up the fact he wasted a lot of years on the little bikes IMO, but a great guy, and a its sad he didnt get to bow out on his own terms.

He will be in demand as a rider trainer for sure.

Not selective memory, necessarily. Brayton wasn't super noticeable until around then. He had some good results, but he didn't come flying out of the gates like Marty did.

Shitty to go out with an injury Marty! Sad to see it end like this. But good luck for the future.

On another note, has a rider at Martin's level made enough to retire completely? Or does he have to go get a real job now?

He´s been 15 years in top teams so money should not be problem. He could do coaching or something to keep him busy its not best option to do nothing for next 40 years.

Yeah was not cool seeing him laying there motionless in a press day video. Glad they showed him up and walking away but wasn’t expecting this. Glad he made the most of his career and can walk away with only a broken collar bone and a concussion 2 races before the planned exit. On to retirement, enjoy!

I read somewhere (probably here) that Marty and his Wife used his income in racing to put her through Dental School and buy a partnership in a practice.

I’d guess Marty will be fine, probably do something to keep busy and bring in a few bucks but I doubt he’ll have to punch the 9-5 for the next 40 years.

Good for him, dude provided some excitement over the years.

I wish Marty the best in his post retirement phase of life...

Marty is also one of the last very few riders that Matthes has had a personal relationship with. He's gonna need to pound / pavement with the new generation of racers that have become the sport as we know it today. I don't mean that Steve is starting with a blank slate but all the racers that he kind of was a mechanic around an early media guy are all pretty much retired except for Marty who is now at the end of his career

I can't think of anybody else that hes known from start to finish buuuuuuuut, my post isn't about Matthes and his media Empire I want to tip my cap to Marty hes one of the few guys to have put for the long valiant effort is career when a lot of 250 races had a very good 450 careers ......whelp hats off to you Marty!

"I don't know what I'm dOOing out there!" Infamous quote from Marty regarding his 2021 450sx campaign. 😂😂😜

They weren’t even on good terms until recently. I’d say he’s much closer to AC and Osbourne. Plus, he has an easy in with the younger generation as they grew up listening to his show.

Best of luck in your next chapter Party Marty! 🍻

Hopefully he’s happy with his decision in the near future, I’d hate to see a guy as successful as Martin be bummed about retirement. His accomplishments are definitely something he can hang his proverbial hate on.

I cheered for Marty hardcore when he rode the 450 outdoors! He looked awesome on the bike.

Thanks Marty, you rip!

All the best to Martin in this new chapter...

It should be a great story of effort and sacrifice going to the US from Ecuador... He was very good friend with Davi Millsaps right? he Invited him to MTF when they were teenagers I believe.

It was always exciting watching him and that year on PC when he had that practice crash oh men what could have been.

Anyways congrats to him on a great career!

Bummer to go out like that, but best of luck and he was an asset to sport for sure.

Marty was always my sentimental favourite to win a 250 title, dang it. A great career and by all accounts a great guy. Good luck in the next chapter Marty. Classy dude in our sport.

Martin on the PulpMx show this week was great. Sucks another top guy is gone but he’s had a great career. He is too funny, recommend listening to it!

All the best to him hope he calls in more often or atleast a 250 2 stroke update in a year or so.

If only every recent retired rider would be interested in 250 2 stroke 15 minute moto format at like 3 or 4 nationals. Would be cool
