Prior to Tomac winning his first 450SX title last year, nobody had ever won their first big bike title later than their 7th year in the class. 2022 will be Roczen's 9th season in the 450 class. The odds are heavily stacked against him winning a 450SX title.

It is going to take an injury or mechanical DNF from Cooper for Roczen to win it this year.

Coopers late in the race come backs come from a couple things. Mental fortitude, and bike set up. His bike comes to him late in races. He sets it up this way. For when the track goes away. Which is why sometimes his fast laps come late in a race. While others bikes are starting to go away from them. Sexton talks about this a little on this weeks Pulp episode and how he’s starting to learn that process.
I would argue that what Webb displays in his late race charges might just be classified as "raw speed" Wink

Cooper and Andersen were never going to win, until they did.
Eli was never going to win, despite coming so close several times, until he did.
So Roczen is never going to win, until he does.

Webb went to the 450 class pretty young compared to a lot of rookies entering the class now. I dare say he will be pretty dominant for the next few years.

I agree. The only thing that could derail the Webb wagon would be if Feld starts building tracks with real whoops again. I get it that Cooper hung it out in the whoops and made it happen last weekend, but historically big whoops aren’t his friend.

This was his shot, when you get that chance you have to take it. I dont see a way he gets into a better situation than he had this year. If he couldnt do it now idk how he does it later. He had over a 10 point lead on 2nd and 30+ up on 3rd place which was Tomac. If he cant do it then when can he? Webb isnt going anywhere and neither is Tomac. On top of that better and better people are filling up the class every year. When you have a shot like he did you have to give it everything you have and not settle. He showed this year that hes ok with settling. The person who will not settle will be the one who wins the next one.

Since when does a series end 2 races before it's over?
My understanding, and I might be wrong, is that it ain't over until it's over.
A 16 point lead can disappear in a second, or another 16 points added.
I hope Roczen fights to the end, and expect he will. He might find himself riding with the #1 plate next year.
