I don't see why we can't bitch about it without having solutions. Are the producers really looking through Vital for ideas?

1. The picture of the show is in High Def. I like that.
2. I can stream the show, wait for the replay, pause, drink beer, piss, all at my own convenience.
3. While the tracks sometimes aren't the best for racing/passing, they've been decent all things considered.
4. I can turn the volume down and just watch. Not that I need too as I'm pretty good at tuning out clutter.
5. I don't have to watch anything but actual racing. I FF through the fluff.
6. Are there room for improvements, sure, but nothing in life is perfect and everything can be improved.
7. As FTE said, they are working under Covid constraints. Do I know what they are... Nope, so I'll cut them some slack.
8. Do I like watching the racing this season? It beats the hell out of doing nothing but search for reruns on TV.
Honestly typing this response is 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back. I need to go pull some 25.5 x 25 loader tires off and tear into the differential which still isn't as fun as watching this years races.
Like WTF.
Proof Ricky reads Vital right there.
I couldn't give two shits about who's talking. Having Ralph and Jeff out of the picture has really shown me that covering a race simply has constraints no mater who is in the booth as long as you are watching it on TV. Unless you want to whittle it down to a 3-5 rider main event, SX is what it is as far as coverage goes.
Here's one crazy thought of how to fix that problem, but I don't know if it's possible (and I'm sure it's not financially feasible. Create an individualized live feed for all of the heavy hitters that you pay extra for. Like, if Barcia is my favorite, there is some sort of a system that follows him the whole race. I watch that on my laptop beside the main broadcast, or maybe it somehow embeds into the picture-in-picture. I don't know how you get that many cameras or how it costs. Or if there is some sort of a coding and technological solution that could track them and put their footage into those pay feeds.
I'd also like to see live HR data / speeds / Gs / etc. But stuff like that may really be too inside baseball for the average fan to care about.
MY biggest gripe... my rant... Race Day Live is really missing the mark. When the A groups are out there, they need to be CALLING THE ACTION and paying attention with the cameras just like it was a race..... Tomac just took P1, somebody is on a heater, somebody looks like they are struggling. It's like they mention that stuff every now and then, almost as an afterthought. Seriously guys, it's only a few minutes. Save the background stories and random chatter for the B and C groups and at least put some energy into what you are doing. You area already in the booth anyway, this could be so much better....
DV was right about RC as well, he’s getting better but he needs to be more honest on commentary. Everyone respects him in the industry, if a rider does something dumb on the track he has the stature to get away with saying it was dumb. He tries to be too nice all the time and it affects his ability to accurately describe what’s happening
There is a limit to what they can do, but doing less , and doing it better would be a start.
With that said Rutledge was them trying something different it obviously is not working
Token sideline reporters? So get rid of Daniel Blair?
You don’t like NASCAR....got it
I think they are showing the whole race maybe missing some action but catching everything is almost impossible
New announcers....ok so you don’t like RC got it...but I do so I guess we have a dilemma...and haven’t they tried to change it up by having three different announcers in the last year?
You sound familiar are you sure you haven’t posted before as somebody else that used to be here and bitch and argue with anyone that didn’t agree with them....
It is as you are a spectator attending the event. You hear everything that is happening. But no one spoon feeding and selling you something. I like this way better than an “entertainment broadcast” like American TV tends to make everything.
I agree with the OP and his list of improvements. Moto and Supercross have had this inferiority complex since the early 70’s where they feel like everything has to be explained and dumbed down for the average layperson. Who, by the way, does not and never has given a damn about dirt scooter racing.
Still...............what we have is better than nothing. 8-)
But you're correct about not being mediocre, your complaining is top notch!
Pit Row
Part of the problem is the US live sport broadcast model, they all feel that they have to do it similar because it’s what “works”. I do think that SX is edgy enough to not follow the “rules” and create a newer better way to live broadcast races, try some things out of the box and be different because it is.
i guess some of you never watched supercross/mx in the late late 70s/80s on TV.
I think Peacock is doing a good job. Overall it's a good production. There is always room for improvement.
The major peeve for me....cutting away from the action for anything (including replays)
RC, Diffey, Lee are doing a good job announcing. Are they perfect? Is anyone perfect?
The major poo-pah recently though is the plaid dildo on loan from his job wrecking NASCAR.....but there's a whole thread on that asshole.
Ricky=ok
Diffy=ok
Will=ok
Blair= great
Harris= good
Langston=great
Weege=excellent
Despain=legendary
Taft=excellent
Little=excellent
Kdub=excellent
Mc=good
Fro=great
Holly=good
Ralph=meh
Quit defending and accepting mediocrity because that’s what we’ll keep getting if nobody says or does anything to prompt change.
Count your blessings.
Yes they miss some action and sometimes you wonder what the hell the director is thinking, but man that would be a stressful gig. On the positive side, a lot of the fluff from previous years has been whittled away and RC is better in the booth with Diffey. They do need to bring Holley back for race day live though and Buttledge needs no further comment.
You probably don’t get to see it in the States, but the Australian V8 Supercars is my idea of an ideal broadcast. Most of the commentators are ex drivers or at least ex industry. They even get some drivers to do some reporting throughout the event, so when they retire it’s an easy step into the booth. They manage to show exactly what changes teams are making in pit stops and during qualifying. And the drivers and team members happily talk to reporters at any stage of the event: Something that’s usually missing from SX. They get tech savvy guys to explain data and setup in plain English and the broadcast seamlessly goes from trackside footage, to in car cameras, to in the pits etc so that you hardly miss anything and the changing perspective keeps it interesting. This is the sport that invented in car cameras, so innovation is also at the top of the heap.
There’s plenty of techniques and tactics that the SX broadcast could apply to improve, it’s probably just a matter of lack of investment. In the meantime, I’ll just enjoy the racing.
