With how Feld and the AMA do things, I really don't have much to worry about.

You know how Crusty Demons of Dirt attracted the tatted, flatbiller, 909 crowd (which I'm fine with because they're gritty)? Imagine what the Ruttledge Wood crowd would look like. Before you know it, guys will be getting penalties for roosting too much and the mains will automatically have to include 3.5 women, no matter their qualifying times.

Lots of insecurities going on here according to rutledge.

The pulp interview made him.come off as more of a douche, and has probably sealed it with core fans. I understand the points he was trying to make but look at the other high level motorsports i.e formula 1 and motogp, they dont cater to casual fans and I dont think they ever have.

And for anyone thinking rutledge will bring new viewers to the sport because he is well known, can I ask you if you have ever watched a new sport or show because of who the presenter was?

Very true. Also it's been brought up a few times, but he has ZERO posts about Supercross on his social. Yeah he is definitely interested in grabbing new fans, huh?
All he proved on Pulp is he thinks he knows best and is unwilling to listen to any other point of view. It's pretty pathetic, regardless of if it's about Supercross or anything else.

Agreed. I'm not a big Matthes fan.... but he soft-pedaled the plaid turd. Since when does Matthes bite his tonque?

For the record....I'm not one of the broadcast " big complainers" like so many here.

My major complaint.... running useless shit/replays while the racing is going, missing passes etc.
I'm not a fan of Will Christien, she is annoying/horrible
I liked Ralph....miss his crazy banter/style.
I like Diffey
Really like RC in the booth.
I like Todd Harris.

I miss Fro.

Bring back Holley....RDL sucks without him.

Really like how he compared bro's in supercross with affliction shirts but he is so cool to wear plaid button down shirts. The guy is a freaking idiot and is everything I don't want be associated with racing.

Having him and DV on at the same time was always going to end in that scenario.

DV's point about having the races free to watch on YouTube is the smartest thing I've ever hard of in terms of growing the sport, then Rutledge has his place in the show for the new viewers.

Rutledge just didn't seem interesting in listening and kind of made an ass of himself and butter in before DV could get his full point across. What a weird exchange hahahah.

To add to DV's comments about making it free to air, I have never and will never pay to watch the races. So how the hell are we ever going to attract outsiders in the first place?

I have said this before, go watch a Motogp broadcast. I would ask Rutledge to watch a Motogp race. They are PRIME examples of how motorcycle broadcasting should be. Informative, bright, intelligent.
100% this.

Lean more to it being a “sophisticated” “gentlemen” sport. But yeah, just follow Moto gp formula.
Unfortunately it’s North America and everything gets dumbed down.

Just keep watching, boys. After a few more races, we’ll develop herd immunity to RW.

I have a question for the overseas people.

Do you believe that as a whole, the people of your country are more knowledgable about motorsports than other nations?

Or do average people just not give a shit about motorsports?

That's MX/SX (US and your own), F1, MOTOGP, etc....

Does regular mom and dad know who Lewis is, who Rossi is, who RC is or your nation's motorsport hero

"Are they dumbing it down because they think Americans are less sophisticated than our international friends and need it dumbed down?"

I wouldn’t say that at all. Obviously nearly everyone in the UK knows who Hamilton is because F1 is a huge sport and British drivers have been successful throughout its history, so there is a big following for F1 in the UK and at this point Lewis is a global icon.

I think in general here people couldn’t give a shit about motorsport. If you watch racing here though, like MotoGP, British Superbikes, it’s not dumbed down like the SX broadcast is. They focus on doing a good job for the viewers that they have. I just think for some reason FELD or whoever are obsessed with getting fans in that are never going to come.

I said this to someone earlier, I just started watching the NFL this past season, I had a basic understanding of the rules going in but that was about it. The in depth analysis of the game always helps me understand the game and the skill set required better and makes me more interested. If they spent that time talking about the ref or the stewards in the crowd it would be far less interesting to me

Yeah, but what the NFL really needs is a segment on how American football is actually played with hands

I agree with the Youtube thing.
It's the same with UFC. I'm not willing to pay for a fight, so it's hard for me to keep up with the sport.
If I were able to watch the reruns on Youtube, I would learn more about the sport and eventually be into it enough to want to pay for the ppv.
Apples to oranges and UFC is not hurting for money, but you get the point.

This wasn’t Rutledge’s first rodeo and he came in ready for bear. Jumped in the pool and made a big splash that only a belly flop could produce. Emphasis on flop.

Le Cobra gave him a reality check most understood, but Rutledge clearly did not. An opportunity to establish a connection with the moto community wasted....almost deliberately so.

I didn't read all 10 pages so it might have already been mentioned but, the problem I see with these segment by Wood, Blair or any of the floor reporters are that it cuts away from the racing. We only get what 30-40 min each main to watch the actual racing. When they cut away from it we miss on track racing. If they do want to show that stuff do it before or after the bikes are off the track. Nascar has 3+ hours to fit that stuff in during the race and your not missing anything. Can you imagine an NFL game not showing plays to cut to a field reporter?

Got some last night. Wink

The part where DV says he mutes the broadcast to watch the races. That wasn't a slam and most everyone in here understood that. It's a top-pro (in his time) / consultant that's analyzing the track from afar. Possibly relaying to riders or team members of interest...in real time.

Rutledge didn't get that and went another direction. Understandable, he didn't know who DV is/was prior to the show other than the amount of follows on DV's social media.

Out of all the co-hosts on Pulp, Rutledge drew DV (who hasn't been on pulp for 3 years). Unlucky, but predestined.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.

disclaimer I don't wear affliction shirts, but I'd like to see Rut-dawg mouth off to somebody who does in person. I hope his years of experience being bullied in Alabama middle school serves him well.

On the pulp mx show, the guy would talk non stop in crazy long intervals like nothing I've ever seen. I found it irritating. I also became a DV fan. I never knew DV was that cool and savvy. We need more DV in this sport. Blaire is awesome too.

I had no strong thoughts other than not liking his segments until the interview on Pulp. Not a fan at all now. I fail to see why the sport needs dumbed down so much?

I play and watch hockey just as much as I moto. So Let’s take the NHL for example a game that looks very basic pass puck, shoot puck, score, fight...but is actually pretty complex when broken down. The average person watching the NHL has no idea what’s going on yet I don’t hear NBC explaining the game....

Casual fans have no idea what icing, offsides, and the cycle are. Dumping the puck “why are they doing that?” I’m also pretty sure even some of the hard core fans don’t know that home team gets last line change at a stoppage of play, making home ice a huge advantage in regular season and especially playoffs. How often doses a broadcast cover these topics....never and they still get views and new viewers. No need to dumb it down either people like it or they don’t.

Huh? That can't be good. I'll have to lsiten to it on my next drive to the track.

I get "who' they're trying to reach out to or draw in with Rutledge: Somewhere between Downtown-Austin Hipster and Computer-Game-Player-Semi/Sorta-Car-Guy with a dash of NASCAR dude...or dude-ette.

Here's an "if"...

IF he was trying to be "controversial" (On Pulp)...? Grinning
Uh, no! Epic FAIL!
He picked the wrong crowd.

I get the segments with him "flagging" and even the pit-board segment. I get it. Many folks don't know what goes into those jobs or what the flaggers and mechanics deal with during the actual races. But, again, they might wanna reconsider who they have doing it.
His Pulp appearance seems to make that obvious from what I'm reading in here.
Discaliamer: I need to go listen to that Pulp show to take it all in. But, it sounds like DV was ALL DV...which I usually dig.

As for the TV crew/personalities/people in the booth/color commentators...
I've NEVER heard anyone better than Jeremy (MC) and Cameron (Steele) -together- as a "Booth Crew" (X-Games back in the day when it was still fun).
Daniel is crushing it...I'd leave that alone.
As for others I'd add to the floor/in the pits/add'l peeps...? Langston and his partner in crime...The Weege. I don't have any issues with Will.
If they wanna class up the place, they could bring back Jamie Little. She was on top of it.

Jamie Little and Jenny Taft are awesome- that's why they moved up the food chain from our "core" sport. I don't remember them catching nearly the flack that is spewn at Rutledge Wood, I wonder why...?
