Time for change , j grant, k dubb or reed in the booth.
Or back to emig.
If he wasn't the goat ,I would doubt he would still be in the booth.

Coverage was fine with the exception of the wanna-be-lumber-jack douche Buttredge.

RDL is a complete failure this year.

If Ricky said "up the inside" one more time last night I was gonna snap. Like I did every damn time I saw that hipster-wannabe @sshat Rutledge (who names their kid Rutledge anyway? Some snowflake from Portland or Seattle no doubt) show up spouting his drivel at me. It was a very low quality night for the broadcast team for sure.

Yes I am posting at 0500 PST - it's race day and we are headed to the track! Smile

We actually played a drinking game last night. Every time Ricky stops mid sentence repeating himself with the same word he ended with, to start the new sentence...drink. We joked about this for weeks but actually tried it last night, we put back some drinks for sure. On a positive side he is way better with Diffy, but the amount of times he starts a sentence and stops to start over is bad, for professional commentary. In my opinion Diffy is the best out of all of them in the past ten years. Diffy and Blair would be epic in the booth. Both are really good at what they do.

I think what’s happening is the “experts” are trying to mold him into something he’s not supposed to be, rather than just let him commentate. I can tell he’s focusing on sounding good rather than just calling it, so you’ll hear words strung out / lengthened / over emphasized to bridge things into what they want, which presumably is continuity and flow. That works when it’s effortless but not when contrived, and this is almost certainly not Carmichael’s fault. He’s gotten good, now they need to back off the training and just let him use those newly honed skills to speak exactly as he wants to in the moment. This is what made Bailey and Emig very effective imo.

AMA & Feld: Lets make SX look professional, and more like F1.

......and then they stick some doofus in front of the camera who looks like he got his clothes from a homeless person.

Stay classy Feld.

Rutledge Wood....really guys.... What’re we doing here? Even if you’re trying to capture a non endemic audience, that’s the guy you chose for the job? He has to be some monster truck drivers illegitimate child (FELD influence). Mind bottling (yes mind bottling) because I had to put my head in a bottle to forget I ever saw this dude involved in the sport.

Just a thought but its possible that the TV production crew might be understaffed because of covid restrictions. It wouldn't surprise me if they were having to make due with less. In any event I'm just glad that there is racing and that Im able to see it live and not have to wait till the next Cycle News to read about it.

Considering they decided to shoehorn in a new guy on the floor, they don't seem too concerned about extra crew.

Verbal mistakes in the booth and all that are fine IMO but it was like they had a meeting beforehand and were like "ok whatever we film tonight, do NOT show any passes".

It wasn't boring, though! A lot of crazy shit happened tonight. But between the awful camera work, technical glitches, and odd commentary, it got all muddled up. It lacked any sense of cohesiveness or plot. No one was on the same page.
Ok but what crazy happened? Besides JA21 taking out 2/3 of the Yamaha team...the 450 class was a yawner. I re-watched the main after your comment and my version of good racing isn't yours and that's ok. The track was cookie cutter of average and your going to get average racing with these track designs. We need track designs that are challenging the riders. How many times did RC talk about the wall jump options haha, that's how boring the racing was

I will bet on every time the racing is boring and average...the coverage seems bad and negligence. If Arlington 1 is a sign of how boring the start cross will be. A2 and A3 are going to be yawners and the coverage will be bad, I think the broadcast is in a lose lose situation sometimes when the racing is boring and the track lends to follow the leader cause their is only one way to go around it fast and everyone can do it, but yes the broadcast can be better I agree and the tracks can be also 100

Early 450 heat race battle in progress, they mentioned something along the lines of "...last time Webb was in Texas...". My wife thinks I'm crazy when I yell "Don't cut away to that fkn crash clip while they are still fighting for the . ... GD DMIT !"

I had the pleasure (seriously) of watching it from a friend's house this week. They are not moto people at all. They are sports people though but if I hadn't been present, there was no way that SX would be on the tv. Nice mancave and projector/wall setup btw...

Anyhoo, so I got to explain a few things that I hadn't previously thought about how to explain. They were genuinely interested in learning about the sport so I tried my best. Slight exception they were excited about seeing some crashes.

So.... Rutledge Wood... They had no idea who he was (they are sports people, not car people). So first I had to explain that RW was on Top Gear, which they vaguely knew about. Then I had to explain what I think they're trying to do by bringing him on the broadcast. Bringing non-moto people in by bringing in a familiar face...trying to be more professional, yada, yada.

Then it all went to shit when they keep cutting from the actual racing to show this guy flagging, holding pit boards, etc. Cmon. I could not explain wtf was going on. I could only assume that some of the light hearted shenanigans carried over from the broadcast in Nascar where DW or one of the crew would be messing with a team/crew member PRIOR to the actual race.

There were at least 2 comments about the crap picture-in-picture split screen view. Could this be done worse? I was watching an 11-foot projected screen on a wall (high resolution btw) and it still sucks.

I have no comments about RC and Leigh. Is what it is but the production could use some help. And ditch RW. I'm sure he's a nice enough fella but there is no reason for him to be in Supercross. Put some eye candy back in there. At least I could explain that and it's quite enjoyable! Whistling

The coverage does seem to have been slipping all year long.

I really don't have any problems with RC. I think he should try to be more of a color guy than a play caller but I'm okay with him there. I don't think he's going to progress over a five year span like Emig diid. I just don't think that's who RC is.

Diffy, I can do without. There has to be 20 people in the US that could do as well. I'm not bagging on him for being Aussie. It's just from where I sit, it looks like they are trying too hard to touch too many bases. We've got an Aussie announcer, and ex-racer color guy, a couple of girls on the floor giving their two-cents (.99 for Will). Some car guy roaming around distracting people from their jobs for the night.

I think it was the gypsy dude that said, "there is no such thing as a casual motocross/supercross fan." Give up on tying to get Nascar folks here. It's not like they are thriving over there anyway. Give up on trying to get that "international feel" into the production. Just be SX.

The picture in picture does need a lot of help. Two pictures added together that don't cover half my screen is useless.

Will, oh Will. I'm happy she's able to get insights from the riders and teams but, can we please limit her time each segment? It feels like she's read the whole book "To Kill a Mockingbird" in five minutes. About two races ago I just quit attempting to listen while she steps in on the racing action. She's talking 9,000 mph, her mic is awful, and that mask...... Slow down a bit. Say only what is needed. Get a better dynamic mic with more windscreen and pot her up some so she isn't screaming into the mic. Then ditch the mask while you are standing all alone on the floor talking into a microphone.

About the only words I can understand from her are rider's names.
