X2 on the NordicTrack. My wife bought one (S22i) about 9 months ago. The iFIT app is nice and similar to the Peleton, you can do other types of exercises with it. I’ve used a Peleton a few times at hotel gyms, I feel the NordicTrack is a bit harder to pedal per intensity level, but other than that, we like it.

We just got a Schwinn IC4 which is the same as the Bowflex C4. Can use it with the $13 peleton app and zwift or just as a non smart spin bike. Can find them in stock at Dicks Sports too so you don’t have to wait. I prefer riding outside but I’m not going to in the cold and wind. Fair weather cycling for me at this point in my life. Haha

For the money, and considering if you're on this forum you enjoy bikes, a quality indoor trainer and a road/gravel/hybrid/mountain bike with Zwift is a great setup IMO. I use Zwift multiple times a week on my road bike when the weather is shitty, it's a cool user experience. You can join group rides or races if you want or just spin along the roads and find random people to cruise with along the way. If you have a smart trainer, Zwift will automatically control the trainer's resistance and make it feel like you're riding in the real world. It will ease up when you're drafting someone, and will be harder on climbs and when you're going fast in the wind.

You can't take a Peloton bike out on the roads or trails when the weather is nice, but you can get superb workouts with a bike and an indoor trainer, plus you have an actual bike to ride outside. I'm not bashing Peloton, I've used one and it's slick, but you can get a really nice carbon frame gravel bike and a smart trainer for around the same price.

This is great advice. I do not see why people buy an expensive Peloton that is still a basic spin bike when you can get a decent road bike with smart trainer and have a much more realistic experience. I ride zwift several times a week during the winter to maintain fitness for road bike racing. There's a ton of workouts available or you can create your own. There's races and timed sections to make the experience fun while still be able to get a great workout in.
It's not about training to ride outdoors. It's a cardio workout.
I mountain bike and have no desire to buy or ride a road bike. As I said in my post, I've been running for 40 years and I've had some of my best cardio workouts on the Peloton. One of the big differences is you can't coast like on a regular bike. You pedal the whole time.

That said, It's not for eveyone for sure. But if you want to do serious cardio and get your ass kicked, this will do it. It pushes me to my limits.

X2 on the cardio part. My mom was a spin instructor till a couple years ago. Growing up I always thought spin bikes were dumb, why peddle and go nowhere? Best part of riding bike is being outside. Well I got into racing mountain bikes and mom let me in on some classes. Holy fuck it’s a much harder work out than actually riding a bike. Much respect to anyone that can go an hour on one of those in full pace. Mental. That said I’m excited for the meditation rides on the peloton

yep. I did a 60 minute climb ride last week. One of the hardest workouts I've ever done. Totally kicked my ass.
All these guys that don't have one but come on here and blow shit don't have a clue. And probably aren't in very good shape anyway!

Or just can’t afford it and mindlessly bad mouth it.

We bought ours used and I ride it almost every day; vital wouldn’t have you believe this but not everybody lives where road biking is easily accessible without risking getting killed by some moron in a minivan.

I’m just saying there’s better options in my opinion. You can put a mountain bike or whatever on a smart trainer. Zwift workouts can be put in erg mode where you force to put out x wattage or else the cranks won’t spin. You’re essentially forced to do the work or quit. I ride 10-12 hours a week on it during the winter when I can’t put the mileage in outside. Most of the pros are using zwift as well during this supercross season while they are in these cities for long periods.

Thats fine if that set up works for you. But unlike you, I don't say the Peloton is a better option, it's another option.
It's a great way to do cardio, and the instructors and classes are top notch

Anyone who hasn't been on one for more than a test ride has no clue how good the workouts are and how enjoyable the classes are. It's not anything like your set up, so comparing the two is apples and oranges.

I've been fit for many years, I still run, mtb and ride moto. So I know a little bit about exercise.
The Peloton is the real deal. Which is what the OP was asking about in the first place.

I do many different rides. Mixing up cardio is a good thing.
That's a really good output for 30 min. My pr is 365 for 30.

But keep in mind bike calibrations vary by quite a bit on the old bike. The new Bike+ is supposed to be more accurate and consistant on calibration. Thats why I just shoot to be inside the top 15 to 20% on my rides.

As far as transferring to mx, I do all my exercise to stay fit. Which in turn helps my riding.

What do Peloton and KTM have in common? The market has spoken. They are the best choice in their respective verticals

The peloton has nothing to do with "the cycling world". It's a cardio machine. A spin bike that goes nowhere.
Now go pull your skin tight shirt over your gut and go "cycle". Road cyclists are the male version of fat girls in yoga pants. Both look awful. lol

The only people I know that own one, are cyclists themselves. They say it's a nice change of pace, when the weather sucks, or they just don't feel like getting hit by traffic.

Actually I would say the vast majority of Peloton owners are not cyclists, although some clearly are. That's why it's so popular. Pelotons focus is on people wanting to get fit and enjoy doing it.

Looked at Peloton, bought an Echelon instead. Not only is it cheaper model for model, but (when I bought, different for some models now), you use your own tablet instead of buying with an integrated screen. I already had a full size iPad so it was a no brainer.

Overall I like it. I was born and raised in the PNW but unlike many of my peers, I don’t go out in rain. Period. Hate our weather for 4+mos a year but I’m stuck here for another ten years...so I exercise inside during the crappy weather seasons. I run in the summer and late spring/early fall.

Notes about the echelon:

Check for sales/promotions. However, read the fine print. Mine was supposed to come with a 150.00 gift card sent later. Waaaaaaaay down in the fine print was a part saying that they’d send another email in a certain amount of time, and you only had a short time to respond with your address etc. Failure voids the promotion. It went to my junk mail and I only found out when I called to inquire as to why I hadn’t received it. They absolutely refused to bend. I never got it. Maybe this changed since then but it left a sour taste for me for an otherwise good product.

As far as the bike I have loved it. I do believe the subscription prices are crazy. You can use the bike without a subscription though. I used my initial discounted subscription that came with the bike, then canceled.

Definitely get cycling shoes with cleats. They come with toe baskets but the shoes make it a much better experience.

Lmao. You sound like me! It sucks here too about 4 months a year. I don't run outside anymore in crappy weather.
That's where the Peloton has been a blessing.
Good part is we retire in 2 years and will be spending winters down south in our motorhome. #Ihatewinter!

Lol...that’s why I quit using mountain biking as my primary exercise...we started parking a truck at the top and one at the bottom to get rid of the annoying climb and get to the fun part...Laughing

Yep. Headed for AZ when I retire. Staying until my youngest is out of school. Wasn’t going to be the dad that sees his kids once a summer after the split.

39$ a month for some videos to watch while you ride. I would rather watch Netflix. Why would I want to do cardio indoors? Craziness

There's no doubt a spin bike will give you a great workout, I've been in my dark place on a spin bike before trying to get through a full effort spin class, not saying that a spin bike is garbage or don't have their place in someone's fitness life. You can also hook a mountain bike up to a trainer, just have to get a road tire. After having 3 kids I've switched to mountain bike and BMX to stay off the roads, I used to love road cycling but now it just scares me.

If you are looking for just a cardio workout and need motivation by following someone's instructions and are not worried about specific bicycle performance, get a spin bike. If you want the same quality workout but the flexibility to ride indoors and out, but also know how to do cycling specific workouts to help you be a better cyclist then look into a bike with a trainer. It all comes down to what will keep you going and what your goals are.

I purchased a Matrix stationary bike and use Zwift. It is a well built bike. I would have liked a smart bike (e.g., Wahoo Kicker), but thought that was overboard given i only ride a couple hours a week. I've been very happy with what I got.

All these guys that don't have one but come on here and blow shit don't have a clue. And probably aren't in very good shape anyway!

Well said. Arguing over what’s best or what’s better is almost irrelevant. If the goal is to get more fit, whatever keeps you motivated and works for you is what’s best. It is good to discuss the options though because some might not know of all the combinations and options available out there.

In my case I had a rower before I got my stationary bike. By all accounts the rower is one of the best cardio machines and burns nearly the most calories per minute of any exercise like it.

The bicycle burns some of the least per minute. I would think the rower would be better. But because it always left my hurting and not wanting to get back to it, I didn’t use it much. The bicycle keeps me able to get after it and I use it more and more.

So for me the bicycle was better than the rower despite the rower seemingly having so much more potential as far as output not to mention it mimics riding movements and is full body, but I just couldn’t get on with it.

Thanks for all the feedback, everybody. I went ahead and ordered the Peleton shortly after posting this, before some of the other suggestions were posted. Hopefully I won't regret it. I had thought about buying a trainer, since I already own a pretty sweet road bike. I would get out on my road bike more, but I live at the top of a ridiculously steep climb that I just am not up for at the end of a ride...plus I'm less likely to get ink-blotted by some fucknut in a car if I'm in my bedroom.

What would be really nice is if they had a training instructor that would jump off the screen and kick my ass to get me on the bike. Hopefully the Peleton will be compelling enough to motivate me. I'm also putting together an F1 simulator and I already know which one I'll be more likely to climb onto!

I have just a spin bike, but I watch classes on Youtube for free. Didnt want to spend the extra for the Peleton.
