First hand: 10 mln deal with KTM in 3 years. Honda offered him it too, then he went with that to ktm. Ktm almost said no, but realizing there was a large age gap between Cairoli an Prado, they had no real choice.
That is indeed the story I've heard too. Before that JH84 wasn't making "too much" money, but HRC really screwed KTM with that offer. Dunno if he got the 10 mln deal eventually, but I always heard KTM made an offer that came very close and because he knew the team he took the "loss" but don't know if that is true and if he took a loss it won't be millions and won't even be a million because Jeffrey is a smart dude. (9.2 million + better bonus system for example)

That was a great interview! He seemed more open than with Mx journalists, maybe because he is not from the mx world he spoke more freely.
Haha , Andy has seen it all, did it all. Prototype of a high roller soccer player. Great guy though.

I will say it since it hasn’t been said.

I was disappointed in the video.

Herlings is obviously exceptionally talented. I watched a video of him being himself and seemingly unfiltered.

He clearly has little respect for some women. He believes he deserves greater attention in the media and the public.

I just expected a higher level of humility, respect for others and greater professionalism.
I would be surprised if KTM found that video to be no issue for them. I would be surprised if all his sponsors had no issue with it.

This is not an impressive video for me. I get he is just hanging out. Certainly he knows this video will be put out. I can get any woman who settles for his stated form of interaction deserve it. I can understand his only audience at that moment was another professional athlete. Again he would have known this would be put out.
But acknowledging all these things openly just makes him appear spoiled, self absorbed, and lacking respect for others.

Just saying he earned this right to behave like that is just excusing his lack of greater character.

But if I was a sponsor and included women in who I promoted products to I would be disturbed by this video

Just my opinion.

Snowflake!

Let him be, let him learn - your taxes don't pay his salary. Not everyone has to fit the PC fantasy. Otherwise, you'll be criticism of his lack of personality.

I'll respectfully disagree. I think a healthy Herlings is just about the best we've seen outdoors since RV and RC. 🙂

I’ll be the first to say herlings has got me beat in every way no contest. Famous, rich, fast etc.

It's not just KTM and his sponsers that'll have an issue with it.

The problem is that Herlings isn't quite bright enough to realise that he'll regret that interview when his future wife & children sit down to watch it.

With a slight tinge of misogyny. I've got nothing against him other than he's got that kind of arrogance that comes with knowing you're young and talented with a lot of wins in your future (if he can stay healthy), but you can't say crude shit like he said in that interview about using women for sex and then sending them a one way plane ticket home immediately after he's done using them, and not pay some kind of price. That kind of talk is going to come back around and bite him in the ass. He'd better hope that interview doesn't get widely circulated on social media and dies quietly.

Agree that was super cringe and got very awkward at some points. Wow, I would never say that kind of stuff about women that had me smh! What if his chick's family sees that? It honestly looked like they wanted to "be romantic" at some points and I wanted to puke. Im a fan of Herling's riding but wow..talk about a little boy real men would never say that kind of bullshit.

You can't do much about a blokes attitude to women - well, especially when you only know him through a screen. I watched it on YouTube, and, once there, there were other videos of him at a practice track, and there was an Estonian girl / lady with him. So, maybe she's not the 'kick her out of bed' type he seemed to want to give the interviewer the impression of.

I'd hope it's just a bit of bravado brought out by the company he's keeping in the video, and / or down to the interpretation through the captions - you can never take those as 100%.

He's 26 - his Male brain synapses finally should have come together. His attitudes to Money and Investment seem to indicate at least that side of things is pretty well sorted. The bloke he was driving with, seems to fit the whole, unfortunate, rags to riches, then blow it all ( or, far too much of it) Sportsperson cliché . Jeffery sure as hell doesn't look to be going down that road.

If any of you think the numbers he's quoting are really remotely near what he makes, well, you really have bought into "they (the main players) don't make much money in the GPs" bullshit, hook line and sinker.

But jeeze, Jeffery, what's with the 'Something About Mary' hairdo? It matches Mary's 'do', a just a bit too bloody much...Woohoo

These guys do not have 7 figure endorsement deals. Motocross is not that popular/valuable, even in Europe.

The tax rate in the Netherlands for incomes over $68K Euros per year was about 51% in 2018, according to the Google. So if he made $4-5M, he paid about half of his income in federal taxes (unless he has a crap load of deductions, or gets to pay lower rates since he earned some of that income in other countries?). Plus I think the Dutch have a VAT, and local taxes as well? I have no insider knowledge on the Dutch tax system so if I am way off here someone can set the record straight!

In any case, cool to hear actual numbers, $4-5M is more than I expected
Thats the general income tax for people without a company. On those type of incomes, you dont apply tax until the money is needed and if you plan well, you dont pay more than maybe 35% tax since corporate tax is typically ~22-25% and you are allowed to withdraw cash with only corporate tax also.

So it is not 50% applied straight onto those incomes above 68k.

He said it wasnt in salary but it is paid to his company ("bv"). He mentioned that he is investing in real estate. Lots of ways he can get to a much lower tax rate by doing this.

Would you say that about js7 aswell? Was he not the fastest rider in sx to ever live in his prime? Yet he doesnt have that many championships.. Who is seen as the fastest rider between dungey and js7?

Herlings is no doubt the fastest rider outdoors. No one can match him. He does things on his bike that no one can match. Just like js7 did. I think they are similar in many ways.

More people (non MX) know James Stewart's name compared to Ryan Dungey....So there is that.

When asked what he wanted to be remembered for in his racing career Jeff Emig said he hoped it would be for his speed over everyone else in a particular race or races over his titles . This is a guy who won 4 of them.

The interview was awkward in the way he talked about women and him treating them like toys that his money could buy...but the guy interviewing him was absolutely egging him on in that respect. They guy is young, arrogant & has probably been told how great he is from being a young kid. The attitude comes with the situation. I've never, ever liked Herlings as a person...as he has always come off like a very immature, cocky prick, but I certainly can't deny his speed, talent and ability on a dirt bike.

That's obviously what KTM pays him for...and not for his personality.
