03 CR250r
After riding a well set up one from a local pro that felt so much better.
I had an 01 CR250r that was dialed with mods & the 03 model blew it out of the water in the 3 main categories which bikes are judged - chassis, suspension & engine.

I picked up an 03 model a week later & sold the 01. Still own the 03 till this day as it’s been a top 3 bike owned in 40 + yrs. of riding.

I rode a yz400 at Carlsbad and it felt glued to the track compared to my cr250 I was on at the time. I easily smoked my buddy who would normally kick my ass there every time. Made the switch to a yz400. Ironically a few years later and several races thrown away kicking the fucker for 3 laps after I stalled, I rode a steel framed yz250, sold the thumper and have been on yz250’s ever since.

I’ve been on orange for 8 years now, first was a 2012 KTM 250XC, I still miss that bike.
Exact same story here. I tried KTM after KTM and hated them all. Sometime in the ‘08 range, I decided I just wouldn’t ever be a KTM guy. Rode a buddy’s 2014 XC and went out and bought a Husky 300 a week later. I talked so much shit on KTM for so long, I just couldn’t bring myself to buy an orange bike. I wasn’t ready to eat all that crow haha.

I had a -07 Suzuki RM250 and this dude I met at the track had 1 ride on a -18 TM 300 MX he wanted to get rid off. Rode it for 4 laps and came back into the pits and asked if he’d take my RM as a trade in. A couple of days later the TM was mine. I have about 145 hours on the TM now and it’s the best bike I’ve ever thrown my leg over Smile

Rode T-Fish’s KTM 18 350 and loved it and went right out and got one. Came off of a Factory Edish 18 KTM 450. I am definitely keeping the 350, but I rode his KTM 150 and now I need one of those too, dammit! Damn you T-Fish! Woohoo

In December of 1988 I had an 83' RM250 and rode my buddies (future bro-in-law) 88' CR250. Bought it from him a week later.

I had a 01 yz250f and then rode a friends 04' CRF250R out in the desert. A month later I drove 3 hours to pick one up new. I still have it today. Great bike once I got the suspension worked out.

In 2003 I had a 2 month old '03 KX250 when my buddy shows up to the track on a Friday afternoon with a new '03 CRF450.
He rode a couple laps and quit cause he wasn't feeling good that day.
He pestered me to try the CRF so I did.
Rode about 5 laps.
Loaded up the KX and drove straight to the Honda dealer and bought a '03 CRF450

Rode a buddies 2013 YZ450 that he had just bought in May or June of 2013. Being 6’2 and around 200lbs at the time, I felt great on it. July of 2013 I bought a 2014 YZ450. Still in my top 3 favorite bikes along with my old and very missed 05 YZ250 and my current 2017 RMZ450.

Its crazy how a lot of us just ride another bike for like 3 laps and thats all it takes to swap brands, displacement, etc. I wonder how much money we could save if we all had the opportunity to ride each and every bike. Granted things change as time goes on. Skill, weight, wants

In 2013 I rode my KTM 250 twostroke on a track, where a local dealer was demoing the new Honda CRF 450s. I rode three laps on it and fell in love. A few weeks later I had it in the garage. Many people didn't like those Hondas, but I was really happy with it.
Same thing happened when I rode the 2016 Husqvarna FC 450. Love at first sight.

The 06’ is on the chopping block.... I haven’t been able to check it out since I crashed but my son said everything is straight but needs some plastic. It got new wheel bearings and all the pivot points done last year, new style plastic kit, V-force reeds, new radiator hoses, fuel line and carb vent tubes, titanium rear spring, valved and sprung for a 200# vet novice. I love the bike but talking about keeping it is the equivalent of asking for divorce papers right now hahaha. Obviously I’d like to go through it and take advantage of the “Ridiculously high used bike pices” right now but who knows how long that’s going to be. You have my number and know where I live if you’re interested

Had a brand new 2007 yz 125. i actually loved it and still can’t fault it for fun factor but it seized and had to borrow a bike for the next weekend so i could race the next week and qualify for championship.
Dads friend had an 05 crf250 he was following his son round a farm on he said I could borrow.
That weekend I went from top 10 to top 5. We kept that bike for the rest of that year, the smooth almost slow power delivery really suited my style.

This ones a better platform, the sss forks being the most obvious. I have a bunch of extra parts and a motion pro kickstand and fmf spark arrestor / silencer I bought so I could ride legally at Kennedy meadows ( it has a shorty on it now ) Bittersweet decision but it’s gonna go.

I had a way too much money dumped into 2004 kx250 set up really nice for the woods. My brother was riding behind him on his KTM 300 and told me how crappy my suspension looked on the loop we rode that day. He said try the 300 so we could figure out what direction to go with clickers etc. After a lap, I told him don’t worry about putting any time into the KX because I’m going to buy a KTM. He had an 05 KTM 200exc as well. He told me to grab that and if I like it, I could buy it. Rode it another two laps and fell in love. KX went up for sale that evening and I bought my brothers old bike.

I really want to try a new generation YZ250F though, but I really don’t want to know how good it is!

Most recently, I sold my very nice RMZ 450 to a member on here and bought a KTM 350 (also from a member)
So far, I’m really digging the KTM350, but that RMZ450 is a great bike. Hydraulic clutch and electric start are nice to have, I don’t miss kickstarting the RMZ out on the track, after stalling or tipping over. My hips are getting worn out and it’s tough to get my leg high enough to kick it over.

Couple years ago I rode a buddies ‘17KTM150. Went out the next week and bought a ‘19 KTM SX150. Still miss that bike, it was so fun to ride and although it took more effort to ride, it took 1/2 the energy as my 450 and much easier to ride than my RM250. I sold it to another member on here. This kind’ve replaced my RM250, that I also sold to yet another member on here.

Rode a new ‘19 KTM XCW300 TPI and bought a new one the following week. Absolutely love this bike for technical single track riding !! This was just an added bike to the stable, I doubt I’ll EVER be without one now, it’s like cheating. I’ll replace it with a ‘22 when they come out.

Had a ‘07 CRF450X and rode my buddies ‘07 KTM EXC525 that was even street legal. Within a month, I sold the 450X and bought a new KTM. I’ve owned the ‘07 EXC525, ‘08 EXC530, ‘14 EXC500, ‘17 EXC500 and just built a ‘20 EXC500 that’s even better than my ‘17 by a good margin.

BTW- the 525, 530 and 500’s are all 510cc. Just a marketing thing with name changes....

Also had a ‘08 CRF450 that was pretty damn nice, but rode a ‘13.5 KTM 450 FE and immediately sold my CRF and bought a ‘14.5 FE, followed by a ‘15.5 the following year. Pretty much drank the Orange coolaide and loved it !!

I had a ‘98 YZ250 for 2 weeks and then the YZ400 came out. I bought the 400 immediately and sold the 250. Raced it a few times, before I wadded my brains out on it. Sold it crashed fir what I paid for it new, since they were sold out and everyone wanted one. Got lucky on that one...
