I don't recall for sure, either an article or a podcast someone said Cooper Webb was 2-3 seconds faster on a stock 2018 YZ450F from his 2017 race bike. May have been Travis Preston on the Pulp show?

Also backs up what Chad said about factory Yamaha. Barcia also improved his results when he went to a more stock motor too

I think it's just fair. I will never be allowed to ride a factory YZF so why should he be allowed to ride a stock YZF? Wink

Travis Preston should have been in-charge of bike development for the Team. With tiny-little "incremental" adjustments he could make the bike "right" for the individual riders.

I find that hard to believe considering the Yamaha USA Racing department went through this same thing with Josh Hayes in 2009. Hayes got on the 'all new R1' and struggled for the first half of the year. It was also his first time on a full-time factory superbike.

So around mid-season he told the boys "Give me a superstock bike, take the factory triples off, all the crazy shit, and give me basically a stock race motorcycle". After that Josh went on a tear and closed the season off by winning 6 of the final 8 rounds, and 2nd in the championship. He then went on to win 4 Superbike Championships. You can find interviews with Josh as he talked about this, very candidly, about how all the infinitely adjustable factory superbike stuff was getting himself, and the team, running in too many directions. They simplified the bike (ie: superstock build) and then slowly added / tested parts and eventually got it dialed in to become the dominate package.

His crew, and the racing department heads (Keith, Mike, Roach, Halverson, etc), all sit in the same office in Cypress. I've been in that office. It's not particularly large.

To think those same guys wouldn't let Cooper try out stock parts, when they had PROVEN success with that same strategy, is laughable. In fact, Josh's old crew chief, Jimmy Roach, is now the head of the overall racing department, and Roach is a sharp fella.

Now I do know of plenty of other teams that refuse to change settings for riders, but in my experience, Yamaha USA wasn't one of them. YMMV.

The ONLY podcast I cannot listen to.
Good thing you guys are here so I can read about the content.

We need Keefer and Matthes to test Cooper Webb's YZ450F to set this straight.

Crazy how they can have by far the best 250 and absolutely fuck up the 450. We'll see if Barcia kills it on the GasGas like coop did when he switched. Not sure how much more evidence we'll need.

IMO HRC was and still is the most sought after ride out there. No energy drink and a massive staff of every discipline possible at your disposal. It’s got to be pretty good to be Kenny.

I can't even click on the video because Sleeter has never said anything that warrants my attention.

Yamahas 450s handle weird. They do something different every lap over the same obstacles or bumps. Its hard to predict what a yamaha will do. Not fun

And yet Chiz is out there qualifying for Supercross mains on a stock one?

Completely opposite of any experience I’ve had on any 14+ YZ450.

CRF450 on the other hand? Haven’t ridden one that I can trust hitting the same bump lap after lap.

A feat he also achieved time and time again on a Suzuki. Another bike that is un-raceable according to many here.

Totally. HRC’s unprecedented string of Supercross and AMA national championships over the past decade is the envy of the industry...

Funny how all the experts on here know more than a dude that worked and developed bikes for one of the winningest 450 program in the last 10 years. Give me a break.

Ahh yes. Dungey was an idiot for signing with KTM because of their previous history.

Dungey won right out of the gate in KTM’s program under DeCoster, and that momentum has carried on. Refresh my memory, how has the 2016 AMA National Champion’s career gone since jumping aboard “the most sought after ride out there”?

Not totally fair, Ken was on another level when he crashed at A2. Would he of won the title that year? Impossible to say, but he looked amazing
