I love all the experts on here critiquing something engineered by a multimillion dollar race program. Perhaps, just maybe, the engineers and technical advisors that have been building these race bikes know what they are doing a little bit more than Bill on here that figured out he could save space on his 2014 YZ450 by routing his colostomy bag through the air box.
It could be that they consider thermal transfer back into the combustion cooling system a bigger concern than optimal airflow over the lube.

I really don't understand the hate for his piece that we see every year, it looks well done to me and it's located in an area that's generally just dead space anyways.
You should know by now that vital employs the best engineers in the world. Way better than little ol' kawi.

To be fair, little old Kawi also employs the techs that mount their coolers in a more traditional way on the MXGP bikes.

No doubt, and it's not like Tomac has ever had any issues with his bike overheating. Right? Shocked

Eli's bike needs cooler oil or "more oil capacity"?

I'm just asking for a friend.

Flux Capacitor.
Its like a Yamaha Boost Bottle,YEIS.
Although Kawasaki call it, KFSCS.
( Kawasaki Forever Slip Clutch System )
I almost asked if it was a boost bottle. But I really was asking what the purpose is

You’d think with all the expert engineers here we could get an explanation as to why this isn’t a good design and not just “I bet it doesn’t cool that much”.

How many DNFs did this multimillion dollar race program already have this outdoor season?

If it's any consolation Max, I had no idea wtf it was either & we've both been around this place since before it existed in it's current form. Guess I missed every other yearly discussion too.

But, thanks to the smart people here, now I know.

Haha, that‘s true!
But to your question: my sceptism towards the design comes from the fact that the flow passes the cooler lengthwise instead of crosswise (as it would when the cooler would be mounted directly behind the radiator). For proper heat exchange you always want the maximum possible temp difference between the cooler and the air. Therefore the „cool“ air from the radiator should hit the cooler broadside.
Also I would like to see how the carbon air scoop funnels the air to the cooler. It‘s very easy to choke a long noozle like that. Compare it with helmet ventilation: not big openings in the front help with air flow but the openings on the backside of the helmet. They are in a low pressure zone and „suck“ the air through the helmet. You need a pressure difference to move air. I doubt the design to create a pressure drop that moves alot of air through there. But I could be wrong.

Thanks for the information! I don’t know the slightest bit about this stuff so I definitely learned something today.

It's just a guard used to prevent Eli's massive balls from getting caught in the radiator when he is on a beast mode ride. Nothing to see here.

Hey Friend. I haven't seen you in forever. You need a vintage bike too. This way you don't have to ask questions that you would not understand the answer to even if people smarter than you told you the ability answer

My son and I are just waiting until our '00 CR's are legal.

We've wanted to do the Unadilla vintage race for a few years, but they keep telling me '99 is the cutoff. Eventually they'll have to include them, right?
