Slightly off topic, but the above pictures of useless campground bikes (230cc air cooled pigs) and further proof of my point that the Japanese simply follow each other and truthfully don't care about what the rider wants. In fact, the big four japanese each have (aside from suzuki which is swirling around the drain)

110cc pitbike type machines, 125cc air cooled playbikes, 230cc pig playbikes and useless 230 dualsport type bikes. why 110cc? I guess because yamaha had a successful TTR110. why 230cc? because yamaha bumped their 225 up and the others had to go to 230cc in order to stay current.

It seems the only manufacturer that the japanese dont pay any attention to is the off road and dualsport leader- KTM does what the japanese can't- apparently

If Suzuki wanted to come back from the dead, they would come up with a 300 two stroke and a 350 four stroke. It would save their off road line and launch them into instant hero status.

Instead , I bet Suzuki is working on a new 230cc useless pig and hoping to bump their 1982 DR200SE dualsport up to a more current 230cc useless pig, and also feverishly trying to retrofit E-start to their 450 - to bring it up to 2010 KTM standards

Didn’t Kawi make the first 110? At the time Yamaha had the TTR-90

I think you are right....but that furthers my point. Yamaha apparently had to bump their pitbike deal up to a 110 to compete. why 110?

I think those air cooled bikes sell well in less developed countries. Also Honda has a 250 now instead of a 230 and Kawasaki has the 140 instead of 125 so they don’t exactly follow each other.

When is was a kid in the 1980s we had a 110cc three wheeler. It might be the same engine in the Honda.

The “useless pig playbikes” are ideal for people who want a reliable bike to play on in the trails. They might not be useful to a racer but to someone who rides state trails or the mud pit in their backyard theyre perfect bikes. Theyre learner bikes. Far from useless.

VERY far. People don't buy MX bikes as starter bikes very often.

The "useless" bikes are much more broadly used than ones that aren't "useless".

Those would probably be fun bikes for newbs Kawasaki needs to go back to drawing board if they really do want to take over the off road market.

Thanks for the correction. I didn't look closely at the date.

So there's still hope for some new race oriented models.

Shoot. Close ratio 5 speed on both the XC models. I was hoping for a wide ratio of some kind.

I always figure the motocross department is a drop in the bucket for the japanese. I bet they sell more POS scooters in India and vietnam and turn way bigger profits than their entire racing line.

these new kawis look good though, minus the slip-on. I like where they're going!

Right?!

IMO they added a kickstand and a different size rim. Then added $200 MSRP.

Hardly competes against existing XC models

Don't forget the flimsy plastic skidplate that I will have to replace with a quality part...

Probably cheaper for them to just slap on the MOTO tank and let the user buy an IMS or acerbis. Overall it looks like they made a lot of good changes to the Mx bikes but unless the suspension tuning and engine mapping is really different on the offroad models I might buy the Mx model for off-road. I am not sure if it is a typo but the 450xc gets the 240mm rear disc off the 250?

Promotional material says suspension is different, for sure.

Its not an XC bike if it has an MX fuel tank on it.

Yeah, that skid plate doesn’t even cover the frame. Why bother?

C'mon, gotta have someplace for the oil to dribble and pool up in when you change it.

I agree, Kawi releasing these xc models isn’t earth shattering and a wide ratio transmission/larger gas tank would have been nice. However, I find the current MX models make excellent off-road bikes and I would think these tweaks would make them even better to start off with, so for that, I’m exited to see how they compare to the KTM, huskys, yz’s, and crf’s. Looks like they will be about 5 lbs or so lighter than the other Japanese brands. At least we’re getting some more options.
