You are very far off on the entitlement comment.

I got hit by a car by a crazy old man and thrown about 25 feet just after I turned 12. The guy got out, said "Stay down there. That's where you belong!", then drove off. The only reasons I can think of for him doing that were that he was either drunk, on drugs, or in 1974, didnt like the fact that I had long hair.

Besides my other injuries, they kept an eye on my spleen for a few days. The doctors said it's like butter, and if it's damaged, it doesn't repair, they just remove it. I got lucky and got to keep mine.
They never caught the old man.
That’s not true at all, the spleen can absolutely repair itself but if the laceration is severe enough you will bleed out internally before that happens. I had a level 5 laceration on mine and it repaired itself, and now 10+ years later it should be back at about 90-95% of its normal strength and function.

mine was split in half like an apple. Dr told me he'd never seen anything like it, kept it and showed it to me after and it indeed was like two halves of an apple. no saving that sob.

Did it taste like an apple though?

Really hoping he takes the proper amount of time to fully heal and come back only when 100%. Who knows how this outdoor season will go or how many races but if he'll already be out of title contention he should focus on getting his body and mind in the right place. Internal injuries are no joke.

I hope he hasn't damaged his spleen because that can be a major problem, Stefan Everts lost his & look what happened when a fly bit him
I've lost mine & currently advised to shield due to Covid as this is a major part of defense of your immune system, stores your white cells, not to mention you can bleed to death fast internally if punctured.

I hope he is ok & maybe just needs to not try quite as hard to start winning more often, imagine the pressure he is under every time he comes back to perform.

It will be interesting to see if you change your tune once you're made aware of the internal injuries he sustained. I'd expect you'll issue an apology to Austin for your ignorant post if it's announced to be more serious than his "ego"?

The man works extremely hard to achieve the results he does and this is how you feel about a fellow racer/rider. Pretty sad.

Austin Forkner posted an update on his Instagram today. Lost his spleen plus 1/3 of his pancreas. Crazy. First time I’ve heard of an injury to the pancreas in a crash.

Heal up Austin.

This is a tough SOB - full disclosure I wasn’t a big fan of his but to go through that and still seem pretty strong Like he does I have tons of respect now. If he lines up again and wins that will be incredible, I hope he does!

Holy hell. That is brutal. The good news is we only need 10% of the pancreas to get by. as a Type 1 diabetic, I understand a lot about the pancreas but man that is devastating and hope he heals up and takes the time needed to get healthy.

I had Pancreatitis a few years ago and it was the worse pain I have ever been through. I looked like I was pregnant and I almost died. I was in the hospital for 14 days.
A few months later I tore my knee and everyone kept telling me how painful the surgery was going to be. I had PCL and LCL surgery. I was out of the hospital the same day as the surgery. It was a walk in the park compared to the pancreatitis.
I wish Austin all the best. I can’t imagine how much pain that was.
