I found this on FB

Lee Ramage
16 mins

It’s with the heaviest, grieving heart that I have to tell you Marty and Nancy Smith we’re killed yesterday in a rollover accident in his dune buggy at the imperial sand dunes. This is a photo of his last few hours.

My wife, Tammi and I were in the buggy and were unhurt. We spent at least an hour trying to save their lives before first responders arrived. Marty took his last breath while I was holding his head, keeping his airway clear.

Marty was my best friend and I tried with everything in me to save him while Tammi tried to save Nancy.

More details to come. There is so much to know about this man and how he wanted to leave this earth when God called him him.

Please keep his children, Jillyin, Brooke and Tyler and all his grandkids in your prayers.

The current generation has no idea of Marty’s “hero-ness” in the sport....except maybe for AC. So sad to hear. Condolences to all involved.

Holy crap.... I raced quite a bit with Lee Ramage in the 80s. I’m so sad to hear that story of what you and your wife went through. I can only imagine the horrific-ness! I am glad you and your wife survived and thank you for your efforts

I am just stunned and saddened.

Marty Smith was the reason I took an interest in riding and racing motocross. I grew up in San Diego, and every kid my age knew who Marty was. As someone else noted, he was the first superstar in American motocross, and he was so well known and loved.

Good speed Marty and Nancy, and god bless their family.

Saw him 30 years ago (at Carlsbad) while on a moto vacation during the Summer of ‘90. One of the most unpretentious genuine person’s I’ve ever met.

Godspeed Marty and Nancy. RIP.

That is the worst news that I've heard this year. I LOVED that man, he had a more pronounced impact on my life than most people that I've actually met . RIP Marty and Nancy. Its actually hard for me to even type this

Oh my goodness. There's some people you think of that are larger-than-life and are legends that should live forever. This is way too soon for someone like Marty Smith and his wife. I'm very sad. He was one of those guys I looked up to as a kid. My prayers go out to Marty, Nancy and their family. Sad
