I just don't understand why we can’t handle problems at the lowest level. piling On, doesn’t incentivize anyone to help out more. And definitely burns a bridge for help later.

Gorr, Varner, Morgan.....all names well known in amatuer racing scene. They’ve been at this a long time. Everything can’t be perfect. But for cryin out loud. We in a pandemic right now. Nobody can ride anyway. Supply chains are disrupted. The economy is in a general state of disarray and we want to complain about respectable engine builders In an economic crisis.

And further the guy is working with you. Trying to make it perfect, and asks a simple request to take this down and you’re gonna hard ball the guy and say no. Throw the guy a bone. He provides a service you don’t know how to do. Unless you can do it yourself help each other out.
I beleive the OP tried repeatedly to "handle it at the lowest level". Paid in advance and got no communication. It wasn't until some people on Vital that know Varner contacted him and told him about these posts. Suddenly a phone call was returned after many weeks. There is no excuse for treating custome s like this. The Corona virus didnt turn off Varners phones, Facebook, Instagram and email. He just plan out refused to communicate with a good and patient customert.

Terry did a CR 125 motor and a KTM 125 motor for my son back in early 2000's. I'll never forget the look on my son's face after riding those bikes. He still talks about them. During these times its taken many of the online distributors weeks to get me my orders and several have been lost all together. They were all made right but it took a while. No matter what I read on here I'll only have good things to say about the man. Not many people can do what he does with engines. Terry is an artist. Terry, my son and I will always hold you in the highest regard.

I think the OP handled it well. He was actually very patient.....way too patient IMO. This hasn't messed up Varner's reputation.....we all know he does good work. Just a nice heads up to keep an eye on delivery dates.

I don't even own a bike at the moment, but my biggest takeaway is that I should go with Tom Morgan.

Haha, it's been a few years but Jeff showed up here on a rant about Varner, alcohol may have been involved, and accused Terry of attacking him with a tire changing stand and he had to defend himself with the only thing he had which was the new rake he had just bought at the hardware store.

Eventually "someone" deleted everything but in reality, it seemed to me like more of a family argument since they(Varner and the Alessi family) have always been close and Jeff was venting after a few suds.

A little bit of humour here boys but two of the three following instruments were involved to solve a domestic dispute.

Fortunately it was just a case of hangbags.....

Well, hopefully when you get it back it is good work. I bought a couple of brand new TC125 engines from a buddy who had just had them done by TH Racing out of Texas. The receipt was for $5k+. The "full race" looked like ported witha chisel & case stuffing done by a blind kid molding play dough. Both had parts come loose or fall off. I clenaed up the porting one the one & corrected the squish on the other that was so far off it wasn't even in the realm of correct & both run fine now. Good thing I got a great deal on the bikes. But goes to show many "engine builders" are complete hacks when they think the client doesn't know any better. The original buyer wouldn't have noticed all the ineptitude..........

I believe they thread did what it was supposed to. Take it down.

Nobody is perfect.

Just my opinion, but sure it’s not the popular one.

How about we leave it up until all the backlog has been caught up? Including my motor that Terry has had for over a year and a half.

There is no arguing Terry's talent. That's why we go to him, but come on it's time to follow thru on promises.

Throw the guy a bone?
Seriously?
Paying before the job was done wasn't big enough of a bone?
This thread is Kowalczyk's only leverage and he's just telling facts, not calling names.

Recently had a job that remained unpaid literally for months...
Called a lot of times, sent mails and text messages, all I got was a bunch of crappy excuses, including "my accountant has CoVid", ages after the bill was due...
Started sending mails to a few business relatives we share, found his home phone number and started calling, explained the situation to his wife...
Got my money in less than a week.

Absolutely hated having to do that.
Yet it worked.

TLR in Florida builds some amazing engines too. He’s worth looking into. I paid in advance for some imported items that he ordered as well as the top end work and he was very easy to get responses from every step of the way. That includes before, during, and after the work was done to help get it running perfect. Can’t say enough about the craftsmanship and communication.

Terry is a good guy and he is sure getting on in age and its a tough industry. I hope you guys get it all sorted.

I have only fond memories of Varner. Here's one from 23 yrs ago...he took us fishing out of Redondo for the day.

Brent Myron can be seen sitting inside, James on the left - (he worked in Engine department grinding cylinders) Terry was in his prime. I took the pic.

The bottom half of the photo is Graeme Brough and his son Adam. Good times and fond memories.

should it not stay to warn others? to at least don't pay everything up front, there is plenty of defenders and people telling of great motors, and service in the past,

edit -at least he should wait till he gets all his stuff, and all that he has paid for done,
taking it down now would not be that bright of an idea, the fact he mentions it win means its doing the job it was meant to

When you get your parts back send them to Tom Morgan...he's the most professional in the business by far. You get what you pay for.
Tom's awesome. Love that guy. Very helpful

No way he should take the post down. The fact that it even had to get to this stage is reason enough to leave it up.

What ever the reason, age, health, workload, there is no excuse not to return phone calls or emails.

This isn't the 80's or 90's anymore. If you don't treat your customers properly it's easy for them to let the wider public know about it

I had always heard relatively good things so was pretty surprised when I opened up the engine and saw what I did. It solidified why I will never have anyone work on our bikes for the most part........The guy I bought them from trusted a buddy who "had a hook up" with them. Right.........
