I would put Reed during his prime years right along MC as the most durable, especially for SX.

I remember reading that Joel Robert pretty much never got hurt until the very end of his career, and that's back when they were racing far more events than the racers of today are.

Paul Malin was talking about Seewer's streak, as he's coming close to the record of Joël Smets, but I don't know the exact numbers.

I think he has like 50-60 GPs to go before he gets to Smets' numbers. That's about 3 full seasons without missing a single race

I remember that Jeremy broke his leg at High Point in 1992, but that's about all I can remember of his injuries!

Carmichael missed one SX season with a knee injury; he started every national from the last race of 1996 until the first five of 2007, then he did one more and retired. He also missed three SX races when he got a foot peg puncture in his thigh at the '99 San Diego SX.

Didn't MC wrap up the 92 125SX West with a broken leg? I can't remember but I think he did... that's crazy

Smets had around 170?? Consecutive GP starts, guy was tough as nails. Those were just GP starts, there was probably hundreds of Nationals he rode during that period also.

McGrath did a part time status in 2005-2006. This is from 2008. He officially retired in 2003 from full time racing. The OP asked during career. 🙄🙄

Yes, and Joel never had any mx racing injuries until after he was 17 years old or so.

How has Reeds name not been mentioned?
Considering chad reed has the record for most consecutive starts... wouldn't that put him as the least injured?
even with injury he still lined up.

I know the past few years he been pretty beat up.. but prior.. wasnt many sx seasons he didnt compete in.

Reed wrecked In supercross and missed multiple rounds multiple years. He doesn't have the record for most consecutive starts. Just most overall starts.

As long as you don't count the night the lights went out in Vegas , McGrath from 1993 to 2002 in supercross has to be the consecutive supercross main starts record I'd think.

MC is the best answer imo. He never missed a supercross race unless he wanted to. Outdoors? I know he missed a season due to a wrist injury that was sustained during Supercross (when his clamps broke). That kind of kicked off his SX-only contracts.

https://racerxonline.com/2017/01/27/the-list-bad-breaks

"Few probably recall that in 1998 Jeremy McGrath was the 250 Nationals points leader after two rounds, while riding for Chaparral Yamaha. Then he was diagnosed with a broken wrist from a previous crash and dropped out of the outdoors to be ready to defend his AMA Supercross Championship the following year."

155 starts in supercross not counting the night they didn't want to ride in Vegas due to safety. Emigs first 250sx win that night as well correct?

Reed missed major amounts of supercross in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014 with injury issues. Kind of crazy he has the most mains ever, he would have another 25+ starts if not for injuries suffered Those years

I recall he tweaked his foot I thought during the outdoor series. That was the year it came down to the final moto between him and Emig. Had he not hurt himself a few weeks previously to that it was looking like it would be his title. But that injury definitely cost him points, and ultimately the outdoor championship that year.
Jeremy broke a bone in his wrist in 1998 at Pontiac. Won the SX title anyway.

He had an ankle injury that hurt his 1996 MX title run. Also cut his foot during the same MX season, which set him back as well. He would have won the 1996 Mx title except every time he looked over his shoulder that year, he saw green.

His cut foot was in 1997 at the end of the Supercross season.

Sorry to burst your argumentative bubble, pal, but 'career' and 'full-time' are hardly synonymous. Whistling

I agree. He finished up the MX Championship, had the knee fixed and sat out Circus Cross (which really doesn't count) and came back to kill everything. Calculated shit right there from the GOAT. That little guy was bulletproof, the hits he took and just kept on cooking. The day Stewart jumped and landed on his back and then played dead on the track while RC shook it off, threw Stewarts bike into the weeds and got back in the hunt...stuff of legends.

As for that Circus Cross, McGrath is still King of that clown show. Not even the GOAT or the FMOTP could take that crown. I doubt anyone will ever top that record.

Exactly. When Windham broke his femur I seem to recall it being talked about as a potential "retirement". He was burned out and over riding at the time. He basically sat out the rest of 02 SX and MX and 03 SX and then came back in 03MX on the CRF450 with a new outlook and lease on his career.

People saying Emig... LOL He's the guy who broke his back and also broke both arms at the same time and then called it a career. Pretty amazing that he seems to have overcome those injuries and still can ride at a pretty decent level.

RC is amazing for sure. For the speed he rode at he had very few injuries. I think a lot of his durability is due to his short/stocky build. How many times did he hit the ground and just roll/bounce out of it? Incredible.

Success to injury ratio would definitely have to be Carmichael.

Here’s how I remember it. During the ‘98 SX season, MC crashed in a corner during the night show at Pontiac and unknowingly broke his wrist. He finished and won the title that year and went onto the outdoors. The wrist was bothering him and after Mt. Morris while leading the MX series points he found out that the wrist was indeed broken so he sat out the remainder of the outdoor season and finished out his career as SX only. Someone correct me if I’m wrong on the details here.

Didn't he hurt his ankle at Millville trying to turn the two jumps before the sand whoops into a double?
