I think Kenny is playing it safe to a degree. He might deny it...but I think there’s something in the back of his mind that remembers the “big crash”. He’s still an amazing rider when he gets a start & everything goes his way...but he seems to get tight when he has to pass his way to the front.

St Louis had good traction, but didn't really break down like this did, or the Anaheims, or Oakland or SD.

As I said, it's relative, I think they've improved here compared to last year and yes he's still amazing. But he's visibly more conservative when the track is shit, and that used to be his advantage on people. Picking lines, adjusting to the bike's movements etc...

I think Tomas is just at the peak, the prime of his career, and nobody can hang with him.
He, at this point in time, is the fastest man on the planet.
94 tried for a lap or so last week, they rubbed plastic
pretty good, and Kenny just got out muscled.
Herlings from over the pond might have something for him outdoors, but SX wise, forget it.

Tomac is just on another level right now.

I’m glad Tomac double shoulder injury isn’t used as an excuse every time he doesn’t perform at his usual level.

There’s a multitude of excuses for tomac everytime he does poorly as well. It’s the nature of sports fans.

Same thing with Tomac in the first race. He passed up to Barcia and then just cruised around saving energy for the rest of the night. With the triple crown, getting taken out while trying to pass Barcia just isn't worth the risk. A 5th place with two races left still leaves you in a good position for the overall, which leaves you in a good position for the championship. Ending up on the ground is good for neither the overall nor the championship. Gotta find the balance in the risk/reward category.

Unadilla results from last year outdoors should comfortably put any talk about his comfort in ruts on a Honda to bed. I think the track was just tough to pass and required some bulldogging ala Tomac - More likely he wants to stay off the ground and away from a potential dog fight with a rider who will risk it all to stay ahead than actual comfort on bike IMO...

I am a big Roczen fan. Personally it seems like he needs to get mad. He just doesn’t seem to race aggressively when he doesn’t get a great start and doesn’t put up much of a fight when getting passed. With that being said I think in the 3rd main in Arlington ken rode the most aggressive he has all year. At the same time I think (I hope) he is thinking consistency and just be there at the end.

No one said he sucked, but Ken does seem to roll over to some riders (Barcia and Tomac). I wouldn't necessarily say he rolls over for Webb, but Webb has gotten the better of him when they battle, at least indoors. And trust me I would much rather see Kenny win than Webb, just my observation of how he races against the 3 I mentioned.

It is the post-injury reality for him.

His arms are not good, at all - but he's tired of talking about it and doesn't want to use it as an excuse.

The amount of trauma and subsequent surgeries he underwent has a huge impact - strength is compromised in many of the dynamic movements required to ride at that level.

He is so good that he can still run the winning pace if the track is open and flowy. He rides in a very deliberate manner now. When the conditions require sudden, high-impact movements like jumping through whoops, jamming into sticky inside ruts, or taking wild lines to pass, Roczen appears compromised.

same could be said for Eli. Not that Cooper has passed him a lot, but he has done it. What was that round last year where Eli got the start and ended up like 4th or 6th without a tip over? That wasn't good at all. I thought he was done then (mentally).
