Eli shoulda just said no comment.
This is akin to "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt"...

Public opinion could only go down based on his "justification". What a crock of shit.

So the entire year they were teammates Joey said nothing to Eli about this? I’m not trying to defend Eli but I feel like Joeys frustrations don’t just lie with not getting compensated and more with him not being re-signed. Just my opinion.

You guys are so gullible. I’ll bet Tomac paid him, but they all agreed to say nothing happened. Jesus. It would obviously be a bad look for Monster, Feld and everyone if they admitted to anything “under the table”.

Unless it was talked about and agreed on before the race, I wouldn't expect Eli to pay anything.

Sour grapes from JS. Sad thing is he’s so short sighted all this talk has probably got someone at Monster saying “no matter what we will never sponsor him again “

Monster doesn’t want this to continue to be a topic so Joey just cut off a potential future sponsor

Joey knew he wasn't getting re-signed before signing on the dotted line so that's a non issue.

Yeah I listened to it weeks ago. Maybe he was acting and playing dumb. Come on, you don’t think they had that scenario already worked out in the truck before the final main? Please.

In Australia we have a name for people like Eli. He's a shit bloke. We all strive to be good blokes.

Whether it was discussed prior or not i think he should've atleast slung him 10-20k. The only thing that's certain is that Joey made it a hell of a lot easier for him then he could've. A lot of good will could've gone his way for very little effort on his part.

okay ill spell it out for you.

if it was a cunning plan as you, baldrick says,
then js17 would have NEVER said anything in the first place and no one would be the wiser.

you cant be that dumb not to see that, or can you?

I can’t think of any sport where it is considered professional to pay a competitor. Quite the opposite, actually, especially when it comes to racing.

He may be a competitor. But he's also a team mate.

Like it or not the Savatgy gave up his only chance at a win to benefit Eli and the team. Effectively giving him an extra 900k. But Eli wouldnt break him off 10 or 20 to say thanks i appreciate it? Thats poor form in anyones language

Are we?

Ok cool. i stand corrected Eli was right to stiff the bloke that helped him earn an extra 900k. Especially after he agreed to give him something, then halfway through the year bailed on the idea.

Isn’t this common practice in cycling? I am not an expert on cycling so if I am wrong I apologize.

He should give him something but he doesn’t have to. Joey was an idiot for letting him by. It was pretty clear Kawi had their eyes on AC the entire time. Shoulda went out there and got possibly the only “main” event win of his career. If he retires without one win, he will regret this forever. Yes it’s only one moto but it still is a big deal.

Guess I’m in the minority, but I’d be pissed if I was Tomac. I’d be pissed he let me by, especially if I knew I had him. I prefer earning what I get as opposed to receiving handouts and favors. Plus, it just creates a hollow victory by making everyone think “Oh he probably wouldn’t have won the million if Savatgy didn’t help him out.” Then Savatgy expects to be compensated for it? lol Like I said, I guess I’m in the minority because I expect to race fairly. Don’t do me dirty, but don’t do me any favors either. When you lay down at night, there’s a certain peace of mind that comes from knowing you earned everything fair and square.

I think Tomac was gonna pass him regardless. I think Tomac knew it. I think Savatgy knew it. I think Savatgy waved him by hoping to get a kickback knowing Tomac was going to pass him anyway. I mean hell, if you’re gonna get passed, you might as well get paid for it, right?

He wasn’t going to make the pass without a Savatgy slip up. Tomac was about a second to a second and a half faster but Joey started that final lap 2+ seconds up. He’d have made it close but Savatgy had it.

So you'd give the extra 900k back? I mean if its not a fair race then its important you should be able to sleep at night, you'd just hand it back right?

Tomac wasn't going to pass him, not a chance. Savatgy, slowed right up the whole last lap, not just when he was passed.

If there was Legal Betting on the MEC, run under that States' rules, you can bet your arse that anything that could be construed as 'event fixing', would bring hell down on those involved. Woohoo Whistling

I’m pretty sure if savatgy got paid no one would have known.

True, but from my limited knowledge on game/race fixing I believe intent matters and both guys are adamant that they didn’t plan the outcome. With that said, if I were in Eli’s position I would give a huge X-mas present to the Savatgy family. No law about holiday gift giving ..

Of course there would be ways around 'it'.

I'd have no problem with something like your said X-mas present being 'discovered' on the JS doorstep. And, conversely, I don't (particularly) 'hate' on Tomac for not gifting JS something. Though, it does seem churlish.

But mate, you should see the 'vigor' that Bookies / Gaming Authorities / Insurance Companies can put into investigations, when they think they've been taken / rules have been broken, that have cost them money / earnings. Hell Hath No Fury (to bastardize William Shakespeare's original), Like Those In Power", that think they've been 'gamed'.

JS17 was way more then 2 seconds ahead of Osborne when they started the last lap for the championship in Vegas that year and Osborne still had time to blow him up, so I am sure ET would have run him down with time to spare. Cool
