Yamaha/Star Yamaha and their program cannot transition a rider from 250 to 450 class. Webb was example 1 and now Plessinger. What you do on a 250 is not going to transition to a 450 especially off bike training.

It ain't the bike.
Have you thought that maybe the gp riders are listened to and get the changes they request?
Do the mxgp teams have the freedom to build whatever they like?

When I fractured my heel, it messed up a lot of the tendons in the ankle as well and the whole ankle/heel combo was jacked for quite some time. The ankle still doesn't work like it once did.

If running was an important part of Plessinger's training regime...Im tipping he's not doing that now!

What a difference a year makes. Double champion in SX & MX on the 250, getting ready to sign a big dollar deal for the 450 and represent USA at the MXDN. Probably making more money in 1 year than the rest of your life combined up to that point.

Then.......

Despite all of his legitimate excuses he should still be doing better. It`s not going in the right direction.
True.. just some flashes of what he is capable of would be nice. 1 good start, 1 good qualifying session- Anything...

He's riding a shit bike and still nursing an injury, that heel wouldn't be 100% you'd have to imagine plus it's his rookie season so it's still a learning curve.
Hopefully next year he makes some good strides forward.

Keefer and Matthes mentioned at washougal that Travis Preston was going to help the race team with setup because AP and Barcia and Ferris had gotten so far away from what it needs to be. Yamaha is also known to be the toughest OEM for changes. After first moto, Barcia said he had changed everything on the bike you could imagine, and it's the best he has had the bike all year, so I would think we will start seeing AP and JB improve from here on out.

Osborne seemed to come off his 250 championships and work through the injuries and still produce results his rookie year.

AP's heel must be harder to come back from.

He destroyed his heel in Daytona and he's racing with the worst factory bike, that's why his results have been poor.

Bullshit! Tracks are way different over there and they can run whatever the hell they want. You guys not remember when Herlings came here for Ironman with an illegal KTM? He runs a longer frame. It didn’t pass spec. So who knows what they are doing to the Yami’s across the pond.

That's my point. He came off double championships and has had some rookie injuries his first year. Osborne also has had a few injuries his rookie year as well and has had results.

AP came off those double championships just like Osborne came off the ones he won as well. They entered into the 450 class with some confidence. Just has worked out a little better for Osborne even with his injuries. Maybe his heel injury is just harder to come back from.

Yeah and look what Webb had to do to get his career back on track. He had to get off the Blue Pig. Or get off that Team, either way Yamaha is really not the place to be if you want to win a 450 race at the top level.

Plessinger needs to leave Yamaha as soon as he can if he wants to win races.

Basically. They can literally build a frame for sand, one for hardpack, and whatever else the rider wants.

Careful. All we have in hear are die-hard Yamaha guys that refuse to see the big bikes for what they are. The 250 is excellent. Has been for a while. You take the same top guys on the 250 and put them on a 450 and then they are no longer a top guy. It’s been this way for how long now? Don’t tell me it’s not the bike.

According to Barcia on pulp podcast TPreston tested bike and found ‘something’ to improve it which he credited 1st Moto good result with.
Interesting when he also said he is not the best tester and also problems communicating what the problem was so that others understood

Webb rode the 450 YZ pretty darn good, then when he moved to the "Factory Team" he started to struggle with it. So blaming the Star Team is not the problem here, who on the factory team has ridden a complete season in MX or SX without an injury or some mishap.

I dont think its fair to blame the bike. its what the team does with the bike and the stock bike as a whole. Some teams are better then others and some are better if only for a short time. I dont think ap will ever be a tier one rider like so many other really good riders.

We know it isn't easy to get factory Yamaha to make the changes the riders ask for. Barcia proved that the bike can be good, it's just probably harder to get there.

AP has been injured so much of his short 450 career. Give him some time. He'll get there.

Zach is around 6 years older then AP, and they had very different injuries. Not sure it’s entirely fair to compare the two’s rookie 450 seasons, and automatically assume one is not living up to expectations just because other has done well.

good point; he seemed to be pretty good on the Star Racing 450...went noticeably downhill on the Factory Yamaha. Makes me think they've got some team leadership issues (Reedy's comments seem to corroborate this as well).

And then you've gotta consider Ferris just crushing it in Oz, then he comes here and struggles (I totally acknowledge that the competition is higher here, but still). And then leaves prematurely and goes home.

Sure seems like it's not so much the bike per se, but the team. Like others have stated, Febvre, Paulin, Seewer, and Tonus have been crushing it over in Europe on the YZ450F (albeit with more freedom to make changes). I think Yamaha Motor Corporation (USA) needs to clean house and get new leadership on the MX side...

Since the Rinaldi mxgp factory team is folding after this season.
It wouldn't be a bad choice for Yamaha to send Michele Rinaldi and some of his crew members to the US. To help with the bike

Theirs two major factors here.
First you have Plessingers Injury. A shattered heel bone is the slowest healing bone that is the most fragile.
I currently did the same injury in January which required a few plates an screws and mine still hasn't healed. The amount of nerve damage he would have suffered would be beyond and causes random pains through out the days and nights.

Secondly, Its been said time and time again with riders wanting to make changes but Yamaha wont let it happen. From JS259,Reed,Webb, Ferris etc...
The MXGP are allowed more modifications and have less strict bike rules then the AMA. Plus different team management

I dont see Barcia or Plessinger staying with yamaha after there contract finishes up..
