Good memories - too bad it burned to the ground. What year did it start?

Let me be one of the first....

My original MXKyle screen name was changed when Motodrive was absorbed into Vital.

I knew the original Redrider (RIP). He worked for me in Orlando.

Jim1934 is my father and still riding at 84 years old. Vital was a little too rough around the edges so he quit posting several years ago.

started there but was mostly a lurker back then around 2000 I guess. Migrated to motodrive after that, now it is vitalmx. I don't post much but generally find pretty good info from many of the topics.

Posted a little on FD but lurked a lot, about like here. Good memories of that place. Some of the meltdowns at the end were a little over the top but loved the banter.

I have had the same name since the beginning and that was at least 1998 or 99.

Har, seems like a lifetime ago. Not sure all the memories are good, some of the shenanigans over there were disturbing.

I came around on I think it was the mx world site, was there lie a month and when to freshdirt. Hung around there until the mikeep meltdown and the mass migration to motodrive. Sure didn't get a lot done at work during that time due to the daily AOL chat room with guyb, EIDave and about 20 others from motodrive in there

Yep RMD days for me too.
Do you attend any of the Spodefest events?
I flew all the way to Atlanta to attend the first one, it was a blast as MXtuner rented a track.
The ex-wife could not understand why I would fly across the country to meet a bunch of strangers I've never met. Grinning

Cyclenews board, Freshdirt then Motodrive.

I put one together in SC in 2001 but never went to another one. Been to a few Dirtweek's with DRN in Illinois and Oklahoma though. Met some good people like AJ Wagoner at those. Got to watch AJ torture people on a grass track while riding a TTR 125 and the others were on full size bikes. Amazing corner speed. Also got to meet Doug Dubach in Oklahoma.

Here are a couple photo's from the one in SC that was mostly RMD guys including Jim from Smackover and MX Tuner (those from RMD will remember those names). The loopout was me during the wheelie contest. I never did get much better but did wear gloves more often.

I was on Fresh Dirt just after we got our first PC back in I think it was 1995. It was while I was still married to the Antichrist. I really enjoyed FD. My screen name was Motomaniac. Mike is a good guy, I "talk" to him on Facebook from time to time. Hes in Fla and seems to be doing good. He went thru some hard times. He was taking care of his mother who he loved dearly but sadly a couple of years ago she passed away .

Same screen name since RMD in 95 or 96. Anyone remember the chatroom from about 97/98, I remember Swap and Sondy being on there but I know there were others that ended up at MD/here.

I remember the chatroom! Late night phone sex with that chatroom girl was the best. Good times. Not sure if it was mxgrl but there were several. A motodrive member married one.

Same progression for me, CN, FD, MD and VMX. Mostly a lurker but joined here during lasergate.

My only post till recently was on cyclenews and taught me how nasty forums could turn. It was about the Doug Henry Yammie 426 (or was it 400 ) era and a poster asked about racing the 426 in mx. I still remember my response:

Friends dont let friends race motocross on four stokes. They take spooky hops at the wrong time in the wrong directions. Sure, Henry and Button proved that you can win on them but success didnt come quick and didnt come without pain. Dont do it.

The first comeback:

I really want to put my fist down your throat and rip the heart from some asshole who really deserves it.

The remaining responses were on that level.

Decided not to post for awhile and nothing too critical. Smile

Fresh Dirt first appeared as a single article on Whip It! in 1996/97 (edit: now that I think about it, it was probably 95. )when someone (EJ - shhh) whispered in my ear that Emig had signed with Kawasaki following years on Yamaha. It was simple headline "Fresh Dirt:Emig to Kawasaki".

A little later it became a regular feature with Mikeee P (a fixture on RMD and Prodigy before that) doing most of the writing. Then, Mikeee split and started doing his own thing, with a forum, which is what most of you guys remember. I helped him with the domain name and pointed him in the right direction software-wise.

The rest is history.

FD, RonRon, Motodrive and here. I think it all started around 98' or 99' for me. I had a lot of good times on race day with the guys at DMXS chat as well. I miss those days for sure.
