simple economics...supply and demand. Kenny and Eli create demand and have lots of eyeballs on them, increasing revenue for the companies they represent. Some dude running around in 35th...not so much. The sport simply isn't big enough to have the 2nd string guys making good money. Definitely not the sport to be in career-wise unless you're a mutant as an amateur. I wish it were otherwise too, but no one is forcing these guys to race for a living...

Top level OEM salaries are 2.5-3 mil (including energy drink bump). Only a couple of guys in that range, though. I am sure you can figure out who they are. Assuming a good year, they can get up to 6 mil plus like mentioned.

Ricky and Stew approached 10 mil in their day. CR22 a little less but more than anyone now.

It was said on Pulp that the Alpinestar guys (Anderson, Tomac, Barcia) are all making a million a year on their gear contracts.

Didn't RC and RV have their bonuses structured so that they had the max payout on wins and zilch on anything else? I imagine only Eli would be the one with a contract like that these days.

Also, I wonder how much Webb's payout was for SX this year. He came into the season without the expectation of winning so I imagine his bonus structure didn't favor wins as heavily as it will next year.

Salary plus bonuses and endorsements. Just think of all the outside money in the sport in 03-04. Chad Reed rode for Yamaha which was 750k- 1 mil a year, +parts unlimited was a mil a year,+A-star, +Scott, +Slim Jim,+Boost Mobile, +Etnies, +Video Game,+Road Champs Toys, plus who knows what else before you even get to win bonuses.

Money was good up until the late 00s in action sports. My friend was an up and coming surfer (not on the even on the qualifying tour) that pulled in 250K a year from sponsors before he even touched his photo incentives. When I got in in 09 we were still floating guys 50k just to wear sunglasses.

That's impressive...So RC and James Stewart could have made $100M (or close to it) over their careers?

I wonder how that compares to what Dungey and Villopoto made over their careers since they were "post recession" athletes.

However, that’s an entirely different environment. Monday-night, Thursday-night, some Saturdays late in the season & all day Sunday...that game is on the T.V. generating more revenue than people can fathom.

Been lot of good info from JT and Matthes past few years on what top riders make or earn. Base pay and energy drink money. Factory bonuses. Gear deals. But holy shit the post on here obvious not everyone gets their "info" from reliable sources.
