Yea it had to of been that the KTM bikes were so much better. Couldn't of possibly been that the riders of the KTMs were just better.... Damn I love Vital's expert mechanics that are so in tune with bike engines that they can detect engine mods based solely on sound coming out of their tv speakers... Wish I was that gifted.
Yeah but RV got pulled by them every time. He's a bum right?

The only KTM that Poto went up against was Dungey.

The power difference was super noticeable, Villo was only making up time by scrubba dubbing the speed checks and getting the power down earley.

For me, the chassis of the new KTMs looked so much better - The Yammy looked kind of 'soft' which made it look like he would sort of fold the Yammy to scrub the speed checks wheras the KTMs seemed to be really stiff and neutral and I dont really know, and maybe it just the new plastics, but the KTMs looked lighter.

The stiffer more 4 stroke style chassis of the KTM may have played a significant part in the start, losing no power through the bike on take off. I also wouldnt be suprised if the KTM has the more modern geometry, with a steeper fork Angle and the engine pushed slightly closer to the front wheel allowing for much quicker starts also.

I raced a 300 KTM for years (250 was my practice bike) and the 250 is actually faster out of the gate, it revs quicker. The 300 shines from mid to top and pulls longer. So like the first roller section the riders hit is where the 300 would be a difference. But all of the speed checks a 250 would get to top speed quicker. And the Alta did look underpowered this year, even from the very start.

I’m on your side and not sure I believe that. But video coming soon...

I'm not sure Akrapovic makes a pipe for the 250. Since that was the factory team and thats the exhaust they use they might have been limited.

Also with the proper jetting the 250 is a rocket. It was a big difference in performance between stock and a properly jetted bike with a pipe and silencer.

Well those are Huskies and NOT factory KTMs.

My point is that Dungey beat Poto straight up in RBSR and the first thing some vitards want to claim is how much better his bike is supposedly. I am a Dungey fan so maybe I am a bit biased, but i fully expected Dungey to win as he is the only one to beat Stewie in a run at RBSR. I was shocked that Shane was able to beat him. Props to him.

I think the RBSR was at its best this year and I am not a die hard 2 stroke lover. It was just the best close racing that I can recall.

My bad I forgot about the race for third. RV did beat him in one run though so I guess RV's bike had a little extra that one run. Damn inconsistent YZ power.

Not sure what you're carrying on about. It sure seemed like the KTMs had awesome power. RV winning a run means he did that run better, not that he got a turbo boost.

For the record, I'm a Dungey fan and my two boys and I race a trio of orange two strokes. But I'm sorry to have let my "vitardness" out of the bag and hurt your feelings with my observations.

open class, no restrictions, so factory bikes of course had something else.
Like previously mentioned the engines were 300cc at least.

There is a video where Dungey says the motors weren’t stock. I will try to find it later. I hope one of the magazines test those KTM’s. I hope they do a test of all those bikes at RBSR.

I'm curious too. That KTM sounded mean. Regardless, Dungey was putting the weel to the dirt incredibly well. Dude did his homework. He obviously didn't show up to look foolish.

I had a 300sx built by power seal with vp it was a rocketship. Definately beats a 450.

the Mikuni TMX 38 i think can produce the most hp but is really hard to keep jetting on point on, and the stock slide does suck.

Raw metal pipe and Akra silencer are worse 5hp (1hp in the sticker alone).

Those ktm’s sounded like drag snowmobiles. I’ve never heard a “stock” 2 stroke engine sound like that.

Just think how strange it is that you can´t actually race one of these sweet 300´s in the 450 class... It´s sad really.

Works bikes were allowed, what do you expect?

All the power in the world means nothing if you can't put it to the ground. Perhaps the Orange suspension and chassis the Red Bull team was on made a noticeable difference too?

1st, 2nd and 4th. Not too shabby.

It's easy to tell. Check to see if it's cracked. If it is, it's definitely a stock exhaust.
