For a guy not doing public interviews, he was a 20/10 in the interview video above. Our racers still don't even know how to do a proper interview when being interviewed by the trackside reporter.

Seriously, all they need to do is watch anyone else and learn. I will say, I saw one guy give Kristen a 99% proper interviiew last night. Forgot who it was until I rewatch, but props to him.

Monster is able to pay 1,000,000 to a lucky fan who didn't do anything.

Meanwhile privateers work their asses off and we can't give them a reasonable paycheck for qualifying for main events.

Maybe it's the millennial way. Pick what YOU want to do for a living and when it's doesn't pay worth a shit, whine to everyone about how you were cheated.

There are lots of good paying skilled jobs out there......with no willing workers.

To be fair, there are very skilled machinists making things from metal in tolerances of 1/10 of the size of a hair on your head making 15$ an hour. Sadly their skills are not as in demand as they were 20 years ago.

I'm simply saying you don't always get to choose what you want to do.....sometimes, but not always. If you want to be young and race dirt bikes and follow your dream I'm all for it, but if it doesn't work out don't blame the "system."

Here in Canada we don’t have to imagine that world where when you get seriously hurt you never see the bill, it’s reality!

I'll take my downvotes for saying what I feel is true.

Jesse was a hired actor and did not actually win 1 million dollars.

I can't imagine the privateers (and teams) would be good with them giving away that much cash when so many got nothing for actually racing the main event.

I don't think it would be 50%. Obviously it's not just the people taking risks. It can happen to the school teacher on their way home who gets T-boned by a drunk driver. Or an innocent little 2nd grader who gets cancer. And yes even the methhead who got so high he thought he can jump out of a 3 story window. They're all my fellow countrymen.

I'm not a full blown socialist, not even close. I pretty much just think our healthcare system should be socialized, you know like our police and fire departments, public schools and libraries.

I'm a human being I dont put myself in a box. I got some shit I'm liberal on I got some shit I'm conservative on and I got some shit I'm socialist on.

And for the record I'm a millennial. I also have a mortgage and a family I provide for without a penny in assistance. But I like to know it's there in case I ever need it. This is the greatest country in the world right? We should be able to take care of all its citizens, even the less fortunate ones.

As far as health care goes, there are so many things wrong with our health care system its not even funny. Let's start with the biggest two..let's actually get our hospitals and doctors to truly heal people and not have them come back for unnecessary appointments. I will end with agreeing with disbanded and saying take it to non moto if you want to talk about this.

Something felt off to me about this kid when they were showing him throughout the broadcast and Joey's pull over really makes this whole thing stink. Trying to look for this kids socials and his district 7 race results and finding nothing so far.

Even if monster hired this guy they can't competely manipulate the racing. Tomac still had to stay on two wheels and he still had to ride like a mad man to even get close to savatgy. ...and let's not forget he has to win the first 2 motos.

Okay genius what happens when everyone finds a new line of work or just doesn't get involved with moto from the beginning because only 5 guys make a living off it and the sport dies? You guys complain about turn outs not being so great and how the gap from 1st to 20th is so great, and then say shit like this in the same breath.

If you truly are a skilled machinist, and not just an operator making $15, I would recommend moving. Top tier can and should make at minimum double that.

hmm wonder who tried to explain the lack of care for the athletes. I guess when one of the 10th place guys last night raced for $1200 and paid for his program to atleast make it there over this last summer he will think of that random guy that won a million who was more important then them by there industry. The even and odd scale here is just way off and this industry is fucking retarded. The riders really are waisting time not fixing this problem, there’s no other sport raking in and putting out without supplying the athletes a dime quite like our sport. Plain and simple, it’s because dirtbike riders are uneducated and pushed by the industry so hard they can’t even think outside of being there last night to keep them self involved. It’s a problem people.

Let’s ask the question, how much would a measly 2 million dollars increase payouts for every racer over 17 rounds? Since I believe the main class purse is $89-$100k a night, it’s probably pretty significant. When main event racers race the entire season in the top 15 and have a return of 1200 a night they arnt even recouping there brand new bike expense back over an entire season. So would u pay 20 grand for a race bike to make all mains to only make 20 grand back? Pretty sad state of affairs. U notice how many guys are not racing? Not investing into this.. better to open your eyes now.

My thoughts...
Had Tomac not won it all...that guy wouldn't have gotten the million.
I'd assume Monster has this type of stuff (both Eli's & the kid who won the million's money) insured with a policy.
So it's very well possible the payouts come from an insurance company to Monster.
I doubt it comes directly Monster...I could be wrong.
But it seems that would make more sense.
I'd assume a policy like that probably costed them a pretty penny though.

Fans/enthusiasts at all levels are important also...without them there is no industry or sport at any level.
So I cant really harp on Monster for what they did...it's all marketing and a tactic to get their brand out there more and talked about.
But I do understand both sides of the argument and riders who are part of the show that are underpaid and
risking a lot to be there and race. It's certainly something that's very wrong with this sport and
payouts need to be higher.

Very well said with interesting insight!

Its all made for tv tho and, i think, they pretty much nailed it. This whole thing made those last few laps so much more exciting that also non moto guys where on the edge of their seat, I guess. Thats the whole point. I personally wouldnt be surprised if this was an actor, he just seemed to be so well spoken and down to earth, i dont know.. But again, they absolutely nailed it (for the purpose of making it more interesting for the casual viewer, which brings them A LOT of money, and thats all they care about, not about the riders)

Exactly this, i thought he was a special needs kid at first and thought what a great idea, then i realized that the money will go on drugs and hookers. Not to mention what the riders go throught to earn it!

That is true, but it is not without its problems too. First you are paying for it somewhere, nothing in this world is free. Next you will lose a lot of say in what kind of care you receive. Doctors will decide the type and amount of care an individual can and will receive based on the amount of funds they have vs. the amount of patients they have. The patients largely can only accept whatever their doctors say. No. I do not believe giving up freedoms for socialized anything is worth it. Charity is a much better way.

A lot of people call themselves machinists when they are really operators (button pushers). If you aren't capable of carrying the process from start to finish (program the part, source materials, choose tooling, make fixtures and run parts), you aren't a real machinist. Those guys are hard to find make way more then $15 an hour.

You wanna punch a guy in the face for believing in universal healthcare? Bet you're a real cool dude Whistling

You can outline the issues, but tell me what your fixes are? Way I see it, those issues are the direct response of a capatlisitc healthcare industry. Capitalism is fine, in fact great for many things. But maybe a touch of socialism in the healthcare industry would be good.

Back on point. I can see the riders seeing that as a slap in the face. I couldn't help but wonder what those monster girls were thinking as that guy was getting amped about his million dollars. They had to put on a fake smile for him so they can collect whatever shitty check monster kicks down to them.
How many riders showed up and lost money to put on a show for monster? What about the guys building the track? Film crew? Lots of folks that woulda liked a slice of that million.

There's only ONE thing wrong with the US health care system, it's called corruption. Any person with a sound mind that looks at the facts knows this.

Whats a bandaid at the hospital cost? $75?

Basically. It brought higher stakes/emotions to the program to hook casual viewers. That way, people will be more likely to tune in next year to see if someone wins big, regardless of whether they give any fucks about SX. My moto-indifferent gf was on the edge of the couch yelling at Eli to plow down Savagty, so I'd say it worked Wink

Come work in healthcare for 5 years. Then see if you’re still bangin the drum for universal healthcare ?

Nobody in America goes without healthcare. Nobody.

This thread really sucks now. not sure if Alessi will ever get a thumbs down on his last post. but the mxgp guys don’t race for purse money ? Yet they’re faster. I don’t get it. Is it really a money issue ?

If you truly are a skilled machinist, and not just an operator making $15, I would recommend moving. Top tier can and should make at minimum double that.

A lot of people call themselves machinists when they are really operators (button pushers). If you aren't capable of carrying the process from start to finish (program the part, source materials, choose tooling, make fixtures and run parts), you aren't a real machinist. Those guys are hard to find make way more then $15 an hour.
You aren't a real machinist if you can't hit numbers on a manual machine. Programming and running parts is for amateurs. These days the later pays better, but the for former takes the skill. Hitting numbers on a Monarch is nearly a lost art.

By the way, I'm not a machinist. I'm a Tool Maker.

Anyone find Jesse on social media? I looked for his fb and Instagram with no luck. Figured it would be cool to watch his story from last night.
