Take the bike now. When the parts come in drop it off for a replacement/swap. It happen more than you think. I work at a dealership. The real fun is damaged or flawed gel coat on boats........
Lol, good ol Yamaha and the bubbles gel coats in the footwell. We dealt with a few of these and it was frustrating to have Yamaha tell us it was caused by standing water in the footwellLaughing

To the OP, don't worry. Just give it another week and you'll be all set. This really does happen quite often. I always informed my customers of this when it would happen.

The bike will be fixed properly and there will always be a note in the dealer/manufacturer's end internally that shows the warranty claim on that bike. If there are any issues down the road with the replaced part you can use that to your advantage. But I doubt you will have any issues at all.

I'll trade you for my broken leg and NOT riding, for your working legs and ability to ride.

Yes, it actually happens a lot. Most of the time it is the carrier's fault, but it does happen often. You don't often hear of it because rarely does that unit have a deposit.

Wait a month and get another one... it will always haunt you and anything that goes wrong will be blamed on the original issues.

I went thrut the same thing with my Service Honda and it has a black cloud over it the whole time.

This. You would be surprised at how many UTV’s and ATV’s are damagaed in shipping. I dealt with it for a long time, saw it first hand...

I put a deposit down on ’19 CRF250 last week and the dealer calls me this afternoon to inform me that the bike crate arrived damaged. Apparently the swingarm was scratched by the front wheel rotor rubbing on it continuously while in transit. They received 3 new 250s, but of course mine was the only one that was impacted. They’re ordering a new swingarm and rotor and promise to have the repair completed by next week and he assures me that the damage is completely cosmetic. Now, naturally I’m dying to throw a leg over this new scoot but part of me is apprehensive about A.) paying for/accepting a bike that has been compromised without having actually assessed the severity of the damage myself and B.) leaving the repair in the dealer’s hands as I always work on my own bikes for obvious reasons. I already asked if it was possible to accept the bike as is and make the repair myself when the parts come in. I was told they cannot release the bike in this condition due contractual agreements etc etc and the repair must be made in house and the damage parts returned to Honda.

So, I basically have 2 options: waive this bike and wait a month or so for the next shipment to arrive or proceed with the purchase of the repaired one. Thoughts?
bummer bro

you seem like a smart kat so i may be speaking out of turn here but you'll want to check those sprocket bolts asap

This doesn't even cover the large, multi-line, multi-location dealers with storage warehouses either. I've dealt with a lot of seats, plastics and wiring harnesses from rodent damage as well.

I work at a big dealer with multiple lines. Crate damage happens all the time. As many have said, your dealer did you a solid by letting you know. They don't have to do that.

For all the people worried about "future issues" Its a scratch, when was the last time you saw a scratch cause massive issues on a goddamn dirtbike? Use your head for more than a hat rack.

Mine was way more than a scratch... the crate was mangled thanks to the losers at YRC. For all the guys that say it's ok, let's see how you feel when it is your bike.

I'm quite sure they CAN'T give it to you with shipping damage due to their dealer agreement with Honda and the financial agreement with their flooring agency.

You go with Factory Specs and stock bolts or is there a "Peely's Secret" to this one?

Bro, the bro's need to know!

Well said... I love the dopes that say it's gonna get scratched anyway, what's the big deal? They would be the first ones to cry if it happened to them.

I do most of the uncrate and assembly work at the dealership I work at, it really does happen quite often. Usually at the fault of the shipper. It’s being replaced and repaired to factory specs, so I’m not sure why that would warrant a discount. I do however understand the apprehension about letting someone else wrench on your bike. I’ve seen some of the guys building these things, the first thing I would do would be pull out my torque wrench and start checking. Aside from the fact that they basically use Vaseline for grease, and I’d want to replace that anyway.

You’re wrong on several levels. One, crate damage is 9 times out of 10 the shipper’s fault. Build a crate as strong as you want, it’s not going to matter if a set of forks goes through it or some idiot drops it. So why punish the mfg and the dealer? The dealer now has to repair the bike, they get paid cents on the dollar for labour and have to calm the customer down. You’re laying this all at the feet of people who had absolutely nothing to do with the damage being done and are actively working to remedy the issue. In OPs case, a scratch. He will receive a perfect bike just like he ordered.

You guys have no idea the amount of shit dealers have to put up with for problems that arise that are completely out of their control.

Kudos to the dealer for being honest and hopefully their techs are good... I would be very sketched out with most dealer work. Of course it isn't their fault, they didn't ship or handle the bike along the way... cross docking is pretty fast paced, many workers DGAFand most ltl companies don't care or turn a way, pass the buck.

You would be amazed at the number of new cars the go to the Bodyshop before being sold. Shit happens. They are fixing, no big deal. Everyone freaking out and telling you to ask for a discount are f-tards and probably don't ride anyway

The dealer is fixing the problem. The guy is going to get exactly what he is paying for. That's your "team" rectifying the issue.

1) Dealer is repairing damage
2) Manufacturer is reimbursing dealer for labor, shipping new parts.
3) If it is deemed the shipper is at fault, they reimburse manufacturer for parts/labor/shipping.

In the end, the consumer gets what they paid for.

It is not a perfect world. The dealer is repairing the damage that the front brake rotor made by rubbing against the swingarm during shipping, so what else would you expect? Shit happens, get real.

After your first ride you’re gonna have scratches. . . They could of not told you. I’d buy from that dealer.

It's a damn brake rotor and scuff on the swingarm. You people are ridiculous.

If you really are in such emotional turmoil over this catastrophic damage OP, just wait a month. Or you can get the one you ordered that will be exactly the same a lot sooner.

Wrong! The manufacturer, shipper, and dealer are separate entities and only care about themselves for the most part. Look at it realistically for a minute. What kind of field are you employed in that you've yet to realize this.

Car dealer wouldn’t tell you. They’d buff it out.

That is why I said wait a month initially there Ace... as far as the rest, yes... it is minor.

Yes, from the customer standpoint. That's not how it works, though.

Being that there’s no warranty, what’s to say something hasn’t been done incorrectly on a bike that shows up without cosmetic damage? Most manufacturers will cover defects in manufacturing, and having a part replaced on warranty due to shipping will have zero effect on that.

If it isn't about the customer, then who is it about in the end? Not saying the customer is always right but would enjoy your take on this.

Edit, naturally some are more tolerant than others with tribulations and such.

You guys are nuts! The dealer is making it right and had the decency to let the OP know about the damage. Most would not as stated before.

Get the bike in your garage, break it down and grease all linkage, put loctite on all needed bolts, check fluids, etc. and ride OR wait for the next bike - simple
