Whole bike is probably bent
No wonder some frames break if this is common. Yikes

Full price for a bike that's already been wrecked . Ouch. Wonder what they would offer someone trying to sell it to them

I would bet a fork lift got into it.

It looks like the crate was dropped from a decent height, flipped over and landed on the corner of something. I would pass and wait for another shipment of bikes, or go to a different dealer. I would not take that bike even with the damaged parts being replaced.

I would cancel the order. When I buy a new bike, I want a new bike. Not a bike that has effectively been through a wreck and rebuilt before I take my first ride.

Subframe and exhaust looks bent, who knows if they are planning to replace it or just bend it back? Looking at the crate, something very heavy landed on that (from the front right to the rear left of the crate), enough to compress the metal crate (and bike) over 12 inches. God knows what that impact did to the frame, subframe, shock, wheels etc. Not sure how the swingarm got damaged with the front wheel packed where it is but I would imagine that is damaged as well.

The fact the dealer told you it was purely cosmetic damage would worry me as well.

No way I would buy that.

As someone who has worked in trucking for 36 years, that has to be one of the most hilarious things I’ve ever read. A “team”.

according to many, it isn't a problem and the buyer should just grin and bear it, then buy it

Buddy wrecks his car. 20 mph no big deal right? Pulls the trans out ( car was totalled) puts trans into car he bought with a bad trans to replace the wrecked car. Manual trans. Big bearing noise on first drive. Had to pull trans out. Multiple bearings had moved(forward), this is why u don't buy something as new. That in fact has clearly been in a collision. Again, even internal engine parts can be affected. Not likely. But definitely possible.

I've seen sportbikes that were totalled from falling over as well. Bent Delta box aluminum frame . Oh that was falling over off the stand btw. Shop measured frame as bent, bike totalled.

If it was me, like one guy said, I would get that VIN. Then blacklist that VIN. A bike that starts its life like that has bad Karma

I dont trust dealers, and the fact he minimized the damage is bull shit. Dont walk away from that bike ...... RUN!!!!

As stated before, now more than ever after those pictures I would walk away... no run away from that deal. If the dealer doesn’t understand I would take my business elsewhere, you went there to buy a freshy... not a freshly rebuilt bike. That thing is wrecked, exhaust, subframe, wheel, plastic, seat and swing arm need to be replaced and then it could be sold as a used motorcycle. This isn’t your problem it’s theirs!

When u buy a secondhand bike u understand what your getting into though. And it's less than brand new price lol buddy just sold his very nice 2015 yz450f. Lots of goodies 3200 he got. 178 hours on the bike. Literally never had one problem mechanically and been babied. Guy plops the money down, fires it up takes off down the street bumping the Rev limiter. It quit before he made it out of fourth gear. He didn't warm it up , he did very clearly break something. My buddy kept the money and had to tell him sorry dude u didn't warm it up, bumped it on the limiter , it's yours now. Who knows if it was something expensive (probably) that's not the point. Dude loaded up the bike an left pissed. That's used. Not new

Woah.. walk away from that is the best advice. Clearly more than a scratch on the swing arm...
personally I’d be looking for a new dealer as well, they shouldn’t be trying to off load that train wreak on you.

That's a little worse then you/we were led to believe, screw that. Shipping company is gonna need to be on the hook for that, no doubt about it.

Where are you guys seeing the bent subframe?
You can't really tell because of camera angle, nor can you see if the exhaust has been damaged. They're just assuming.

And that crate you guys are so worried about is made out of aluminum. You could walk by that crate, bump it with your hip and bend it.

The dealer will do a thorough job of inspecting the bike for damage and replacing all parts that are affected. You guys make it seem like they're just going to slap a sticker over the damage and shaft this guy.

And no, they dont fix those bikes and knock $1000 off ?

The dealer is the one who said he could get one when the next shipment comes in so I doubt they are trying to screw him. Nothing shady going on just inconvenient for the OP not getting his bike this time around. I would wait for the next batch and the dealer can fix this one and sell it later.

This stuff happens more often than you think. Trust your dealership they will take care of it
These were actually my first thoughts, but after stewing on it for 12 hours I am second guessing the whole deal.

I appreciate the reassurance,
I would pass myself on any crate damage. Why pay full price for damaged goods when you are really paying to buy a new one the way it should be from the factory. Also you tend to find more even more damage you did not see right away. You say you do your own work. So I am sure you take a new bike down to the frame and service it properly before riding it. Unless they were offering you a big discount, I would pass on that bike for sure. Service Managers will say take the crate damaged one because they usually get a bonus or commision on the warranty work they do. I would find another dealer, your first dealing with them does not sound too good. Trust me, I worked in the motorcycle industry for 30+ years and am now retired.

Per my request, the dealer sent me these:
Per my request, the dealer sent me these:

Run for the hills!!! Do not buy that bike. Hell I have seen crates fall off of forklifts 15 feet in the air onto the pavement and off the back of semi trucks when being unloaded or loaded. Go find you a brand new one somewhere else.
