who is going to beat Barcia at RedBud ?
Yup

Musquin would beat him (probably)
Febvre and Paulin probably won't.
And that might be the difference between winning and losing the overall

Does France have white jersey with chickens on them? That's just too easy...

Come on guys. MEC is what's important. We don't want Marv to get burnt out and not be competetive in the joker lane. None of the cool guys care about this useless race for old people.

Isn't that what so many here were saying when Dungey and then Tomac skipped?

Wow, didn't see that one coming.

Not only is Marvin on great form (beaten only by a currently outstanding Tomac) but he absolutely hauled round Redbud this year. Honestly, I say this every year but who would bet against USA now? France can still win it of course but on paper at least they'll need their best against the Americans, on an AMA track especially. Crazy times.

Is it because he decided not to go or because he wasn't picked? Big difference between the two, and based on one of his social media posts about wanting to race the MXdN I have to think it's the latter.

Anyone ruling France out of contention for the win now have short memories. Don't forget Paulin and Febvre easily won last year with an Enduro rider as the 3rd guy. If those 2 can repeat the results they put in last year then they have a great chance. They have a system, which obviously works and Paulin is integral to it.

Honestly, I feel bad for Marvin right now.

He receives so much hate from some American fans then even his own country doesn't pick him for MXDN. I think Marvin is one of the nicer guys around and he most definitely takes these things personally.

France’s chances certainly dropped, but they can still win.

Maybe marv said no. Aldon doesn't like his guys doing outside aka "unnecessary" races.

O I dunno, maybe because he's arguably the best French rider on the planet.

But to be fair this is exactly what people has been saying every year. I remember langston a couple of years ago saying "well france will not win this year thats for sure" when they didnt choose marvin. And of course they won. Paulin and febvre always steps it up at mxon.
Yeah but that's Langston for you, he hasn't paid attention to the GPs since he left for America in 2001.

In reality Ferrandis was never a weak pick in 2014. It's just that Herlings dominance in MX2 masked the quality of guys like Ferrandis, Febvre, Gajser etc.

Absolutely. They still have a team that can grind out a win. I think most people realize and agree with that. But i don't think many would disagree that Marvin would have been the best option for this particular race. He would most likely beat all 3 fairly easily at Red Bud 9 times out of 10.

You are right and thank for him for thinking this way.

I also wonder if some of this hate has been pondered in the selection process ; I think not, but maybe the selection thought he would be a too easy target for some big boos that could overpressure him.

Do you not think there's a chance that there could be a similar thing in play this year? Maybe Paulin and Febvre are closer to Musquin than everyone gives them credit for but Herlings' dominance makes them look as though they're a long way off. Maybe not, just a theory

I think too that Marv would have been the better choice for this years MXdN.
But seriously, what makes you guys think that he’s so much better at the moment compared to Paulin and Febvre?? Getting second and third at the nationals where Tomac and Barcia are the only healthy top riders?

That’s last 6 GP motos. I would venture an educated guess that Marv is better than that.
Uh, I should have looked at his recent results first.. wasn't aware that he's struggling that much at the moment. I am convinced!

But from the French federations point of view: Can you really fire the team captain after winning it four straight times and Febvre three straight times? Would be disrespectful to say the least..

Fast track his US citizenship! Then the US can send two really good teams.
Team 1
Tomac
Musquin
Plessinger

Team 2
Barcia
Bagget

They already raced there this year. Musquin crashed in the first turn and came back to second.
Then won the second moto and the overall. He rode amazingly there, maybe the best he has all season...

Paulin and Febvre haven't even been close to winning a moto this season. They're struggling to even get on the podium. How many podiums do they have in total? 3? 4? In like 15 GPs. They won't stack up better at Red Bud on a track they don't know, with the Americans on home soil thrown at them.
Musquin has won two overalls in nine races (one of them is Red Bud) and he has been on the podium in almost every race.

As I said, if the race was somewhere in Europe, I could kind of understand these picks. Next year in Assen for example, Paulin is good in the sand.

But for gods sake, not at Red Bud.
There must be some politic bullcrap involved.
Or maybe they just want to be loyal to Febvre and Paulin.
I totally agree that Marv would be the better choice for RedBud and more so since JT$ showed me Paulin's recent results.

But do they have a choice not to go with Febvre and Paulin, looking at the results of the last four MXdN?

They should have offered Marv the 250 ride!

it could be , the battle between Barcia and Febvre/Paulin could be an indicator of levels
as all of them are just about top 3 ... none of them can match the speed of Tomac/Musquin and / or Herlings/Cairoli
best of the rest :-)
8/8/2018 7:12am
It's not about who's better and who's not. But Paulin and Febvre we're always loyal to the French federation and never said NO. That's not the case for Musquin. That is why these 2 got choosen.
Simple as that.

French are proud, arrogant and somewhat weird people. Not surprised if they are still holding a grudge and acting like children for some small thing that happened years ago

As said, it worked for them in '14, '16 and '17 without him. Musquin already was the best Frenchie of the lot those years (in my opinion). Last year they won with a guy who didn't race GP's for over a year. Americans may believe "it's coming home for sure" because of Musquins absence, but it isn't.
