Damn, that’s a crock of shit! The local dealership around here charges $650 “uncrateing” fee but that’s it if I recall correctly on my 350exc purchase. That’s negotiable too..

I price checked lots of bikes prior to getting mine. Went with the lowest OTD price. Went to my local shop to buy oil filter and oil for first change. He complained about me buying elsewhere and asked what I paid. When I told him he said, I could beat that. (I had called the week prior for OTD price) I told him I had a friend wanting to buy and I would call him and he would be on his way up. He said, "well I think that's the price, I have to check rebates". I asked him is it this price or not. He back pedaled and basically blew me off.

He lied to my face trying to get me to feel bad about saving $650 to drive 2 hrs.. I will NEVER spend a dime in his shop ever again. I would have bought parts and maintenance supplies from his shop for years for just this one bike. Not anymore. I hope his business folds. I'm not the only shady instance with this guy.

I hate this bait and switch crap but, as a salesman myself, I understand how it gets to this point. I used to shop for the best pricing until an awesome dealer opened up in the Chicagoland area. They also sell Harley Davidson motorcycles so it probably has something to do with how they operate efficiently but they are good. They sell the bikes on value and stay strong on their quoted price. They may negotiate a small amount but not enough to make you feel like if you DONT negotiate that you are getting a terrible deal. They run a race series and carry a ton of gear that I would actually buy (not just the cheapest shit). Once I found these guys.....they have been getting my business ever since (3-4 bikes). Woodstock KTM! The sales manager is also a former pro and does a great job.

I think we will pay a little more if the dealers don't just focus solely on pricing when selling the bikes. Anyways....I just thought it would be nice to throw in an example of a dealer that does it right.

But remember.... support your brick and mortar dealer.

If I could order a motorcycle from RMATV or Motorsport.com I would... and then order all my parts through them as well. I loath walking into my local shop here in Vegas, don’t even like driving there since I know I’m going to get ripped off.

It's illegal in most states for manufacturers to sell cars directly to consumers. Licensed dealerships must sell all cars and trucks. Is this the same for motorcycles?

I work at a dealer in eastern NC and to even be competitive on price we just say screw it and price it at 100 dollars over what we pay for it. No doc or setup or bullshit. Tax and if youre financing we charge a finance fee to pay our lady and the finance company. But other than that bare bones 100 over invoice and if there is any rebates. invoice to msrp on new bikes isnt even a $1000 bucks.

Which shop? Ride Now sucks! We went there once when we lived in Vegas and some salesman tried to sell us on a 2010 KX450 with an Akro slip on for $9500. My dad laughed at the guy and we walked out right after that. We were there to pick up oil since we were in the area and wanted to check the place out. We left empty handed.

A buddy of mine called the shop because he was going to go by after work and pick it up but first wanted to know the out the door price. After tax, title, fees, set up, shipping, etc the OTD price was $8363. Thats a difference of $2868. They told him they lower the price to charge more fees.
Does that mean the "non-sale" price OTD would be $12,068.
Trash shop in my opinion. Not a good way to make sales or build a good reputation.
Also they told him that he cannot pay with his debit card, it has to be a wire transfer or a cashiers check. Is that a common thing?
The funny thing is that "fees" are not a mystery. You just look at them, and if you have a calculator, you form an opinion. For instance, the vehicle sales tax rate is 6.6% on Arizona. That calculation on $5495 is $363. Their title fee looks ridiculously cheap at $8. Those fees you can't get away from most likely, but "shipping" "set up" and any other stuff "doc fees" can all be negotiated.

Even on $9199 list price, add in $607 tax and $8 title and you get 9814. Their "deal" is only $1451 less than list. Not even close to a savings of $3704

Spent months waiting/shopping for a KTM 450FE. My local dealer has never received one, I guess due to low sales on MX bikes. Called all around the SE with zero help or interest. A vital member sent me a lead to a good dealer in the upper northeast. Way to far to drive. Within 24 hrs, I purchased a bike that was told there is none to be found, located a shipper (U-ship) and had the bike 7 days from purchase at my house. Dealer even helped me out on cost of bike to help on shipping cost (I didn't ask), also showed up on day off for the driver to pick up the bike. By far the easiest transaction I have ever had purchasing a bike.

There is dealers out there that want your business and will do what it takes to earn. But then there is some... Guess that can be said about any other industry.

I'm blown away with seeing this. Almost $3,000 in fee's? If a shop out here did that , they would be out of business in 6 months. Every bike I have bought from Motosport's Hillsboro.......what they list the price at , is what you get the bike for. Most of the time , no setup fee's or any other bullshit , except for the paper work , which is about $160.00.

$3,000 is almost criminal. In fact....it sounds criminal. That just plain sucks as far as moral's go.

I'm not sure if complaints to the bbb or state attorney general office would do much?

I called ride now in Phoenix last year while shopping for my KTM. Had it listed for 7600.00 Asked about the OTD door price and was told something close to 10K. No wiggle room at all. Ended up calling Langston’s shop in Cali and got a sweet deal over the phone. (Really cool dealership too). Put deposit down over the phone and drove to pick it up few days later. Ride now is a total joke...surprised they have so many shops still in buisness. Probably the side by side crowd keeping them going sadly.

I got my 17 350sxf brand new, SLM went and picked the bike up, no fees no nothing. KTM has a deal on top of that. I paid less for this bike than the 17 KX450f I was looking at. Price on KX looked good until fees rolled in.

If anyone is actually serious about buying a 2018 YZ450F, i have a few left.......$7997 OTD...no bait, no switch

I was scrolling through the Ride Now instagram feed and saw another offer for an 18 KX450 at $5499 listed back in May. Im not quite sure how they can pull this off. Like Jeffro said it sounds criminal. I hope this catches up to them eventually and they get shut down but by the volume of UTV's they sell I don't believe that will happen soon.

Ill have to check out the shop in Anthem. Like most people I would just like to walk in, see the OTD price and be done. Im not trying to spend all day buying a bike and go back and forth negotiating.

I agree, I cant wait for the day I can order online and have it delivered to my house. I think 99% of us would rather set them up ourselves out of the crate anyway.

That there folks is the reason we’ll being ordering our bikes off a website in 10 years or so. Almost no reason we can’t now. 3/4 of the people that work in dealerships now are damn near retarded. Dealership don’t pay worth a shit anymore so all the decent people moved to different industries.
What's funny is that's kind of how it was 25-30 years ago, minus the internet part. That's why TUF Racing was so badass; make phone call and pick up a crate from your local freight company. No bs and no rapey nonsense.

LOL I called both Langston and Thousand Oaks powersports today, both have 2018 YZ450F leftovers advertised for 6399.

Their out the door prices were over 8 fucking grand. I don't care what your setup fees are, I'm not paying 25% above the price you're advertising (I'm aware tax is a thing). Not to mention neither of them could tell me whether or not that qualifies for any BluCru parts credits.

Has anybody gotten some realistic prices on a 2018 YZ450F? The state of dealerships is really sinking toward the lowest common denominators.

Ridenow here in Tucson does the same thing. I loathe having to go there for anything, but they've managed to swallow up all the other dealers that they are your only option in Tucson if you need something ASAP. After interacting with their sales manager and parts guys I'm amazed they stay in business. Scummy people and scummy business. I've bought a ton of bikes from all different dealers and they by far are the worst I've interacted with.

What a joke. Treat your customers like idiots and your going to end up looking like idiots when you go out of business. Nobody likes this crap. Besides tax the price on the sticker should be the price out the door. Why even write that price when its nowhere near that? The price should be the price... no funny business. Thats why I buy used a 2 year old lightly ridden bike is half price. They really rake you over the coals and the resale value is atrocious. Just pushing it out the shop and into the truck and its back to being worth the sticker price you lose thousands for some reason.

Im not gonna lie thats almost too far in the other direction. With how little bikes get sold these days that cant be enough to keep the lights on. Great for customers but I wouldnt mind paying more than 100 if you guys are a no bs shop just to keep you around. I know money is made on oil parts and gear but even then its not flying off the shelves like it used to.

One thing I miss about the east coast, I always could find better deals like this than here on the west. Everyone here tries to tell you it costs them at least $800 in setup fees. Please. I remember my Yamaha dealer was the same way, $100 over invoice, he figured if he sold more units the better as he would get incentives from Yamaha for doing so.

I recently read an article in a bicycle magazine that a lot of pretty high end mountain bike brands are going direct to consumer. The mag tested a bike that was $7000 and then when the brand went direct to consumer, the price of the same bike dropped to $5000 overnight. There are most likely larger margins in bicycles than dirtbikes, but if the can sell a bicycle online that’s delivered to your door why can’t they sell dirtbike? They both take relatively the same amount of set up and I would assume have similar liability. Yes the bike shops don’t really like it but as the article states, once these brands started to offer direct to consumer the “cat was out of the bag” and people see how much extra they are paying the old way.

Alot of smoke and mirror bullshit dealers out there. I buy x amount of new bikes every year. I have noticed all the dealers i deal with are in the North East. Seems like these guys are all 5 star dealers that rely on end of the year kickbacks to stay in business. All they care about is moving shit. Bikes are fresh, still in crates. Most set up shipping to my door or the nearest Fed Ex freight hub.

The not allowing you to pay on a card is fairly legit. They have to pay a percentage of that in fees and it adds up quickly, we do the same. The dealership I work at basically sells everything for retail plus tax, no fees, and it ends up being the best deal around our area a lot of the time.
Might have to take a trip to your shop when I start looking for my next bike

When I was shopping for my yz250f in January looking for a left over 17 they had one for a steal of a deal listed online. Once all the fees were added we were back to the a higher otd price than those not offering a sale at all.

Ended up with a 7hr 2017 for 3500 less and zero scratches.

Yea I mean bikes have a serial # on the bottom bracket. With my Santa Cruz I register the serial # for warranty purposes through Santa Cruz once I received the bike. A lot of states don’t do titles for dirtbikes, I’m sure you could just get the mso or certificate of origin with the bike and then take it to the registry and off road register the bike like normal and get your title that way if you want it. I don’t really see and reason mx bikes couldn’t be sold this way as they aren’t street legal the way they are shipped.
