It's all about safety. This is a hobby to 99.999% of us. If you cant afford to pay then dont play. It's really that simple. You would have upwards of 95% of people here telling you you're wrong but I get the feeling you'd still think you're right.
10 years ago there was max four colors for each brand.

Is Barcia really selling enough boots, that Alpinestars wouldn't have sold otherwise, to pay that contract?
I'm an accountant, and would love to get a job at one of these companies to try to understand how the sponsorship aspect pencils out.
My bike has, brand new tires, clean oil filter, fresh seat, fresh chain, and cleaned with a toothbrush, however it has no graphics and the plastic is scratched up a little. The front fork guards are a custom dirty red to brown color that took me many hours to achieve.
My point is I agree 100%. What money that I can spend goes to making sure the bike and myself have the best chances of minimizing the risk that is being taken every time I throw a leg over. I have had cheap things fail on me in the past and it isn't worth the lesson to anyone willing to listen. It is hard for us to afford any of it, but it is all needed. Just my 2 cents.
Pit Row
. I ended up with external fixatiors on both ankles wearing Crossfires.
I have been looking at getting away from the Tech 10s because I find the durability to be really average but I simply can't stand the look of any boot on the market other than the Tech 10s or Fox Instincts.
They're excellent boots.
On the rare occasion I get a set from A-Star for a media/special event: they're ALWAYS White-n-Black.
As for the price? I'm worth it.
I've got'em from on-line & I've even bough them in shops over the last few years.
I don't think I've EVER spent more than $400 for a pair...EVER.
As I read this thread, I went looking on-line:
$399 at Rocky Mountian
($459 white-red-blue & other colors: limited sizes.)
Btw, yes, I did find some for $599.
As for Sidi and Gaerne: EXCELLENT BOOTS!
Fox and other brands: I have friends that swear by them.
Those of you saying a certain brand doesn't last? I don't know about that...seems to me that when I take care of stuff "proper"...it lasts a lot longer.
I wear A-Star for several reasons...
Protection: during a shootout 2 years ago, I cased an uphill jump BAD! I was sure I was leaving in an ambulance: Nope!
I had the slightest "jammed" feeling in my ankles and was back on the bike in a few minutes. This was a new experience for me.
Maintanence: A-Stars are sooooo easy to maintain and keep fresh. Removing the booties and flushing them out is a nice feature. They don't get that "stink" that most non-booty boots get. There's a snugness I get in an A-10 that I simply can't get anywhere-else.
The toe-box feels like it was made just for me (size 10D-E).
At media and track events I've tried several different boots...many of them were excellent including Fox's new 180 with the band that holds the top. Many of these boots are an excellent value.
HOWEVER, when I suit someone up with new gear...especially someone that's just getting into riding...a "Noob"...
I put them in A-Star Tech 1 thru 7 which I can always find on sale for $150-200...easily. Furthermore, most of these folks evolve into a more focused boot for off-road or moto and A-Star always has their particular need covered (like a good Enduro sole as found on the Tech-3).
I have a few friends that just go out and buy exactly what I'm wearing:
A-Star Tech 10s
TLD head to toe
Dragon NFX"S" (these offer a level of "high speed" protection that's NOT available in most goggles).
They all seem very happy. One guy even suited up this way for Adventure riding...even when I told him there was gear that's far more suited for "ADV"...he's stoked on his choices and happily wears his black A-10s on the road and trail. As it turns out...he goes pretty far off-road on his 1290 and lives in his gear...and has since gone to Black & Grey TLD Adventure stuff that looks soooooo "outlaw" to me.
Funny, he wasn't interested in the A-Star Adventure boot...said they looked "too sissy" and didn't offer the real confidence he feels in his 10s. Btw, the 1290 is his first "dirt bike"
board reminds me.of that time I accidentally switched to "queer eye for them straight guy" for.30 seconds.
Not that there is anything wrong with that, please carry on in your.footwear free for all, just remember, no white after labor day.
I would like to see them make some more color options. not clown colors like others.
