Yes. I'm spending $600 on boots or a helmet. Along with a couple hundred on knee braces. Then after I buy the best protective gear I'm gonna find the cheapest riding clothes possible.

It's all about safety. This is a hobby to 99.999% of us. If you cant afford to pay then dont play. It's really that simple. You would have upwards of 95% of people here telling you you're wrong but I get the feeling you'd still think you're right. Unsure Unsure

That makes zero sense. Youre basically saying if you cant afford $2000 in gear then dont ride a motorcycle. No wonder nobody gets into the sport. For new riders or riders that arent above a c class level is it REALLY necessary to have $600 boots? No its not. A good set of $200/300 boots work just fine for a large portion of riders.

I am convinced the new limited editions are just a way to make you buy new boots sooner.

10 years ago there was max four colors for each brand.

When you're laying in a hospital bed getting prepped for surgery on your ankles, you'll wish you bought more protective boots than tech 1's.. That's all I'm saying on the matter...

Yeah man my friend free falled from about 20 feet cus he jumped to flat and he has these shitty fly boots and his ankles were done for it. Don’t think any other boots would’ve stopped him from breaking them but some better boots could’ve helped a little More. He got tech 10s as soon as he could ride again

LOL i forgot how many people get so whipped up about the best boots. It's almost worse than the brand loyalty between bikes.

I wanted to buy the white/orange/blue(Indianapolis LE boot) Tech 10 LE boot from last year and it sold out in zero time, at least here in the Scandinavian countries.

But you have to remember that lots of the boots on Alpinestars site are old. I think you can find the Tomac replicas on the site but good luck with actually finding a set.

Edit: The Indianapolis boot is still on their site but it is sold out, same with the Tomac boots.

Serious question here, how many different boot colorways can a company like aplinestar, fox, sidi, etc..be selling. I have took notice to how many special edition boots i've seen on the market, and wonder how each compnay can create sales. I wish I had the extra cash laying around to pick up a new set of boots every 6 months, but i think the reality for most non-sponsored riders is we ride boots till the grave.
I thought this was going to be a question about sponsoring riders. I thought I heard that Barcia is getting paid million(s?) by Alpinestars.

Is Barcia really selling enough boots, that Alpinestars wouldn't have sold otherwise, to pay that contract?

I'm an accountant, and would love to get a job at one of these companies to try to understand how the sponsorship aspect pencils out.

All the special edition boots are the same basic boot just different colors right? Cant be that much cost in creating 1000 pair of each new color way since the same basic design and tooling is already in place.

They are the exact same boots. And as far as the sponsorship of guys like Barcia in the US, they are marketing to people all over the world because of the more global audience with Supercross so it’s not just about how much they sell here. Although I dont think it’s in the ‘millions’ plural that they are paying him per year but maybe over a number of years.

Spent a little over 1k on a Shoei, Airbrakes, AStars(Soon to be replaced by SIDI), and decent knee guards. The rest of my gear consists of cheap items.

My bike has, brand new tires, clean oil filter, fresh seat, fresh chain, and cleaned with a toothbrush, however it has no graphics and the plastic is scratched up a little. The front fork guards are a custom dirty red to brown color that took me many hours to achieve.

My point is I agree 100%. What money that I can spend goes to making sure the bike and myself have the best chances of minimizing the risk that is being taken every time I throw a leg over. I have had cheap things fail on me in the past and it isn't worth the lesson to anyone willing to listen. It is hard for us to afford any of it, but it is all needed. Just my 2 cents.

In my opinion Gaerne is missing a trick by rarely updating their colourways. They keep the same colourways for years.

Don't be fooled. I good boots don't protect you that much more. Not saying they don't help at all
. I ended up with external fixatiors on both ankles wearing Crossfires.

I had the opposite experience with mine. I was always hoping they would break in and stretch a little more. I definitely wished I went to a larger size

Gaerne is missing a trick by having their highest end boot look straight out of 1992. Steel tips and sewn on soles.

I have been looking at getting away from the Tech 10s because I find the durability to be really average but I simply can't stand the look of any boot on the market other than the Tech 10s or Fox Instincts.

Take a look at the TCX Comp EVO 2 Michelin boots. No steel tips or sewn soles. Same price range as the Tech 10 and Instincts. Made in Italy in their own factory.

Can't bring myself to spend less than $600 on boots. Boots and helmet are easily the most important gear you wear. Big difference between sub $200 and $600 gear in safety.

To accommodate cheap asses willing to cut corners in the worst possible area -- protection. Or for your average backyard rider.

I wear A-Star 10s on the track, on the trail and several thousand miles per trip...in "The Baja".
They're excellent boots.
On the rare occasion I get a set from A-Star for a media/special event: they're ALWAYS White-n-Black.
As for the price? I'm worth it.
I've got'em from on-line & I've even bough them in shops over the last few years.
I don't think I've EVER spent more than $400 for a pair...EVER.

As I read this thread, I went looking on-line:
$399 at Rocky Mountian
($459 white-red-blue & other colors: limited sizes.)
Btw, yes, I did find some for $599.

As for Sidi and Gaerne: EXCELLENT BOOTS!
Fox and other brands: I have friends that swear by them.

Those of you saying a certain brand doesn't last? I don't know about that...seems to me that when I take care of stuff "proper"...it lasts a lot longer.

I wear A-Star for several reasons...
Protection: during a shootout 2 years ago, I cased an uphill jump BAD! I was sure I was leaving in an ambulance: Nope!
I had the slightest "jammed" feeling in my ankles and was back on the bike in a few minutes. This was a new experience for me.
Maintanence: A-Stars are sooooo easy to maintain and keep fresh. Removing the booties and flushing them out is a nice feature. They don't get that "stink" that most non-booty boots get. There's a snugness I get in an A-10 that I simply can't get anywhere-else.
The toe-box feels like it was made just for me (size 10D-E).

At media and track events I've tried several different boots...many of them were excellent including Fox's new 180 with the band that holds the top. Many of these boots are an excellent value.
HOWEVER, when I suit someone up with new gear...especially someone that's just getting into riding...a "Noob"...
I put them in A-Star Tech 1 thru 7 which I can always find on sale for $150-200...easily. Furthermore, most of these folks evolve into a more focused boot for off-road or moto and A-Star always has their particular need covered (like a good Enduro sole as found on the Tech-3).
I have a few friends that just go out and buy exactly what I'm wearing:
A-Star Tech 10s
TLD head to toe
Dragon NFX"S" (these offer a level of "high speed" protection that's NOT available in most goggles).
They all seem very happy. One guy even suited up this way for Adventure riding...even when I told him there was gear that's far more suited for "ADV"...he's stoked on his choices and happily wears his black A-10s on the road and trail. As it turns out...he goes pretty far off-road on his 1290 and lives in his gear...and has since gone to Black & Grey TLD Adventure stuff that looks soooooo "outlaw" to me.
Funny, he wasn't interested in the A-Star Adventure boot...said they looked "too sissy" and didn't offer the real confidence he feels in his 10s. Btw, the 1290 is his first "dirt bike"Laughing

Patience is the key for getting quality gear at a good price. I just got a new set of SG12 for 300 on ebay. I looked for about a month before these came up. Look at some of the people that sell used gear. (MxLocker & Dirtbike Depot) quality gear and helmets at a discount. Every year all the online retailers have blowout sales. If your patient enough you can get a deal without spending a fortune.

Watching as some.of you fuss about "LE" moto boot colors and style on a motocross discussion
board reminds me.of that time I accidentally switched to "queer eye for them straight guy" for.30 seconds.

Not that there is anything wrong with that, please carry on in your.footwear free for all, just remember, no white after labor day.
5/9/2018 6:42pm
I endoed a fairly large jump last summer and hopped over the bars last second and landed feet first. Was wearing sg12s. My hip and knee were pretty jacked but my feet/ankles were 100% fine other than a stubbed toe. I really believe wearing a cheaper boot would have ruined my feet
5/9/2018 6:57pm
I'm on the sg12 boat. they are holding up awesome too. lots of hrs over the yrs. I put them on a boot dryer after washing and a little wd on the screws and buckles.
I would like to see them make some more color options. not clown colors like others.
