Yup it’s crazy. I was looking at 125s and they wanted 3k+ for an 06 YZ125. I sold my 2013 CRF450R for 3200 lol

When a 2006 is 98% the same as a 2018....you're going to have to have some crazy prices.

Buy the lowest hour example you can find for a decent price.

In Winter 2016, I traded my '09 bone stock YZ250 for a low hour 2015 yz250f with $500 on my end. Say what you want about the 250f, but it really blew my mind that someone was willing to trade their year old bike for a 7 year old one.

Here's my story, 3 years ago I bought a pretty roached 03 with a fresh engine for $1000. Time and money has kept me from building it, I got a YZ450 a couple of months ago so I decided I'd rather spend my time riding than building an $18,000 prototype. I had bought an 11 450 swingarm and an RTech tank and bodywork kit for it but hadn't gone any farther. I had sold the stock tank for $175 so I was into the bike with swingarm for about $1,500 at that point. I got $400 of my $500 back out of the new tank and plastic so I was into this thing for $1100 with a extra 4 stroke swingarm which went on my 08 450. I was going to continue parting the bike out when I read a story about someone on Ebay getting screwed out of an engine because the customer sent back a box of bricks and Paypal sided with the buyer. So I have a friend with an 03 that lost a crank and damaged the cylinder. He had asked about the engine but didn't have the money so I made a deal with him. I swapped engine, frame, and titles with him along with a 93 KX250 roller with a good bottom end, and whatever parts I needed from a 1965 International Scout to get my $1,000 out of the engine(average what a good runner is getting on Ebay). I've since decided I still want a 2 stroke so I gave him $300 credit for the YZ engine parts, $100 for the KX250 which I'm planning on restoring and I should easily be able to get $600 from the International parts. So that means I now have about $500 in an 03 YZ250 needing a crank, cylinder sleeve, and top end kit. I figure probably $1,500 to build the engine, a new Clarke tank, plastic, rims and misc I'll be into a fresh bike for about $2000, $2,500 if I do SSS and a newer shock. Exactly what a clean 03 YZ250 is worth. But if someone wants to give me $3,500- $4,000 it will be for sale.

Gotta agree with this.

An 05 with oversized rotors, SSS suspension, and restyled plastics is pretty much the same as a ‘15, assuming they have similar hours and condition.

I’ve seen plenty of roached out ‘13+ bikes, and plenty of 02-04s that are nicer.

The bikes are all the same with a couple big differences and a lot of subtle ones. Why wouldn’t they fetch similar prices if they are the same? They haven’t updated them drastically. Blue wheels and an oversized front brake don’t justify a $3000 difference between a 2018 and a 2006, overall condition does.

I think it's because you're in California.. And I really hate to rub it in, but some you guys are getting fuuuucked. I bought an '06 YZ250 in late 2011 for $2000. If someone told me they're selling a bike that's over 10 years old for $3000 or over, I'd laugh in their face.

2011 vs 2018 is completely different. 2 Strokes have made a comeback and have a demand for cleaner examples.

In my area no cleaner 06 YZ250 goes under 2500 and we have winter half the year it seems like.

If Yamaha would update the damn bike and give it a modern frame/ plastics the value of the current gen would tank IMO.

An old guy I used to ride with has a 2001 that he bought new. Original tires, only a few tanks of fuel through it...Bike has never been tipped over. He has had it in his spare bedroom since 2007 or 08. I’ve been trying to buy it for 10 years. Wonder what she is worth.

Well, that's just ridiculous. It's not something I should say proudly (given the prices thrown around in this thread), but I actually sold my '14 250SX that you can see in my avatar last week for $3800, and I initially listed it for $4000. Good for the buyer, but not as good as it could've been for me, apparently. What I should've done is taken a short vacation to another state with the bike for a week and I probably could've sold it for $6000 or something.

Sweet man! Can't wait to see it. Lately my 18 450 just sits in the garage and I take out an old two stroke. Smiles all day.

Aluminum frame that isn't roached is 3k and up. Little less for the 05's because nobody wants the forks. Anything cheaper and you'd better have gas in your truck and cash in your wallet because it will probably be gone within the day.

Don’t feel bad, I just sold my ‘14 250sx with 60hrs on it a few weeks ago for $3600. You did better than me! I wasn’t super bummed about it though I got a good 4 years out of it.

No idea. Not really for sale but just curious what people think something like this is worth. Yea kyb kit suspension. Psf-1 forks and 2 part kit shock. They work pretty dang good.

Well, IMO we both sold them for a reasonable price! That's about what they should go for.

is $1400 for a 1999 YZ 250 reasonable, or a rip off? They say it is in excellent condition for its age.

Depends on what you compare it to. If you compare it to what I paid for my 05, yes it’s a rip off. If you compare it to what the other yz’s are going for, if it’s in good shape then it’s a decent deal.

Yes. There are many factors that will go into the valuation. Thanks for the reply.

I have an 05 I bought new, I was going to go through it and try to get 2000-2400 or so. But.... I've been on a waiting list for a hip replacement and got the call it's happening on the 30th of this month, so $1,500' takes it as is. It's been maintained, oil changed regularly, linkage lubed etc, but the engine has never been apart, because honestly it's always ran perfect, I've never felt the need to. I rode it at ocotillo a couple weeks ago, it runs perfect. (I'm a 59 year old vet novice so it hasn't been jumped hard trust me lol) Let me know if your interested.

ps the kickstand isn't included

suspension was done by pro valve Nick. Set up for a 200lb novice, has a titanium rear spring, oversize disc, (you can have the stocker too) "Flo" pipe made by randy Blevins, semi fresh geo max's gold chain, supersprox and some assorted bling

Hey did you sell this yet? I’m game. Where is the bike?

Unreal! I'm looking for a 2005 or newer YZ250 and the prices these guys are asking is ridiculous!! Saw a few 03 and 04's for $4000, 05's for $4500 then a 17 for $5200. If someone is asking $5200 for a super clean 17, why would you try to get $4500 for your 13 year old yz250? Are people actually paying that much for a 13-14 year old yz??
My friend has a 2012 KTM SX 250 for sale 4K I think.

Meet the new bike, same as the old bike...?. Got a trail ridden bone stock ‘06 for $1,500. Then spent another $1,300 on tires, chain, sprockets, silencer, v-force reeds, all hoses, pretty much anything rubber, carb rebuild, shock and fork rebuild, grips, went through all the linkage, bearings, pivot points, fresh filter and fluids etc. Lots of hours cleaning years worth of mung off everything, 2 boxes of sos pads, 2 cans of carb cleaner and about 2 cases of Pacifico’s later it’s done. Race test this Sunday on the hillside track with the old farts. ? Seems like 3,500 for a clean one thats gone through would be a deal. Good luck

Will probably get the restyled plastics kit and some graphics after I ride it a couple times.

I can’t believe people pay as much as they do for a new YZ250. Thirteen year old bike with a new VIN, for the most part.
