Thanks! I'll be out there vintage racing with the TVRC Sunday. David usually runs open practice after the vintage races and the forecast is looking good so far.

I heard this was the same thing as S100 motorcycle cleaner. Where do you get it? Someone said Lowes, but none around here have it.

Put your chain lube on after cleaning it. It will be dry when you go riding and won’t fling off. It isn’t really necessary to add chain lube the day your riding.

Simple green is the best stuff ive ever used. I'll have to try the shout once though...
I used to use Simple Green until I started using mr. Clean. Now I'm going to try the shout thing. Here's a tip for your riding gear instead of using an oxy clean use Purex 2 with the wash and your gear will come out like new.

Mr. Clean in a spray bottle, it’s good enough for digger29 it’s good for me

Always used tide with bleach and our bikes always look great. Wash time is inspection time. Look for loose nuts, bolts, spokes, sprocket bolts, etcetera.

Indeed, SHOUT is superb. I hose off the chunks, grab a beer, spritz full strength lightly for a while. Grab another beer and garden hose off.

Then switch to 50/50 SHOUT/water blend and spritz again lightly for a while along with another beer, keeping everything somewhat wet. Grab another beer and rinse well, get the Makita blower to dry. Hit the chain with a bit of DuPont chain wax on a rag. The "Four Beer Method".

And yes, THANKS CamP.

EDIT: Loves me some 303 Aerospace for tires, cable jackets, plastics, etc. as well. Good stuff, but $$$

Also, it is always a good idea to read SDS/MSDS of any product before spraying the shit out of your bike with it. Stick with pH neutral, or as close as you can get.

caution on using Simple Green - it will fade any color anodized parts you have on your bike
2/19/2018 7:30pm
I have been cleaning my race bikes since some of you have been in diapers. I have learned a few things in the trenches. Some of my experience is going to go against what has been posted above.

Westley's Bleche Wite
Back in the early 90's (and before) if you had a Yamaha you used Westley's Bleche Wite. Bought it by the gallon at Sam's Club. Never did I have an issue with that product. You must NOT let it dry on your machine. To this day if I could find a supplier locally that sold BW by the gallon, I would try it again. Although around '14 or so I hear the formulation changed. I cannot attest to the new stuff.

Simple Green
I switched to simple green after the BW. Been using it to this day. Full strength. Never let any cleaner dry on your scooter. Bad things, depending on the cleaner used, can & will happen. Never has bothered any of my alum parts anodized or not.

Here is my regimen for cleaning. At a race I clean my bike 3 times. After practice. After the first moto & then after the 2nd moto. (1 bike 1 class) Clean that mung & drool off your scoot before riding it. All you are doing if you do not, is grinding it into your plastic & making it look like it is 10 years old, when it is only 6 months old.

Yes I use a pressure washer. I do not go the races without one.

Exhaust plug in. Take off the mung & drool with the washer. Spray Simple Green (100% solution) all over the bike. This includes the chain.
Wash off starting at the top & work down. Spray the chain last.
Put the nozzle of the washer very close to the chain. Top & bottom at an angle. This gets all four sides.
Immediately use WD40 on the chain to chase out the water.
Do not spray WD on anything else. NO, go ahead & try it. Make it a dusty day...
Wipe down the machine & perform your usual pre/post race maintenance.
Wipe down the chain if needed & use your fav lube.

I recently bought a 18 TC250. Put a PC unplated pipe on. My first nakkie pipe. I am not sure how I am going to go about taking care of it. My guess is Simple Green followed by a wipe down with WD.

No matter how you go about cleaning your bike, clean it often. I cringe when I see a bike with month old caked stained & baked on drool. Take pride in your scooter!!

Blow the radiators out with a leaf blower or compressed air so that water doesn't drip out onto your pipe for hours after washing. Wipe down with a good coat of WD-40 after washing and you'll never have a problem with an unplated pipe. It's all I've ever ran, don't like chrome pipes.

Thanks BR. I use the shout on my chain too. It works great on the Motorex 622 Off Road chain lube I use. Air filters get soaked in a bucket of Kerosene for a few minutes before I bath them twice in two separate buckets of warm soapy water, then a clear water bath. I have four 2 gallon buckets for this and set them up like an assembly line. I prefer Maxima FFT liquid air filter oil. I go the full factory mechanic route when I service the air filter. The subframe comes off and the airbox is removed and everything gets the Shout treatment so it's as clean as the day it rolled off the showroom floor.

The wife buys Shout by the gallon.
Where can you buy it by the gallon. Love the stuff

Ok you are old. Although I was out of diapers in the 60’s...

Simple green will stain aluminum stuff. Don’t use it unless you keep it wet and wash right away. I stopped using it and switched to shout.

I have tried shout and it works exactly the same but seems to take longer to get the tough stains out. The only really bad stuff i have come across is that purple stuff, cant remember the name but its super corrosive and even takes the gold of upper fork tubes!
You’re thinking of Castrol Super Clean. Nasty stuff. However, if you want to strip every bit of road grime from your trucks wheel wells, spray that on then pressure wash off...like brand new.

Man - I'd be hung over after washing a bike, calling into work the next day. "Yep...Trav must have went riding this weekend."

I don't know if they have it all of the time but, I have bought the gallon size at Costco. It comes with a normal sized squirt bottle. It is way better than Simple Green IMO. The aluminum looks way better over time.

Its because of this thread CamP, that I switched to Shout in 2009. Still have Simple Green around for more hardcore grease.

Yep. Been using SG since it probably came out in the early 90's here in CA if I remember. In the 80's I used the good ole elbow grease with warm soapy water. The key to the SG as you stated is to not let it set & dry, it needs to be washed off right away. On the pipe I've ran several raw finish pipes & they require maintenance for sure after every wash.
In 05 I bought a Doma with a raw finish & decided to try a high temp dupli color aerosol clear coat. Surprisingly it's held up really good, but have had to do some touch ups through the yrs.. If your looking for a maintenance free alternative on the raw finish pipe I'd highly recommend it.

If you ride in Georgia red clay and don't use Shout - you are missing out! Hose off the big chunks, apply Shout, rinse and watch the magic.

CamP - Are you the same guy who found a new CR250R in a crate years ago and posted on Thumpertalk regarding your build?

I've used SG, tried the Shout thing but nothing comes close to Totally Awesome from the Dollar Store - Same stuff has high end Malco cleaner but at a fraction of price.-
