At first I didn't understand why a legend of the sport would flounder around just trying to make mains. Now I'm on board with the fact he just loves racing and being at the races and everything the experience has to offer for him.

sorry man, that's not great logic, it's just romantic drivel. the most dignified way to go out is on top, regardless of whos choice it is. the further way from that, the less dignity there is in it. that applies to everything in life. so, like it or not, the respect Chad earned in his career is not grandfathered in, and the longer he continues to be unsuccessful, the less respect there'll be. this isn't about what he has done, this is about what he is doing. the strongest impression is always the most recent.

You are seriously comparing Reed's riding to that of a person committing suicide? What happens when that mid 30 year old , multi-time champion gets healed up and starts getting inside the top 5 - 10th again? You think that people won't respect that?

You don't think " Real fan's " of this sport don't cheer for that guy , even if he's in 18th?

This has got to be one of the stupidest things said on here in quite some time. At least this week it is....
i made an argument you fucking idiot. that is an extreme example as to more clearly identify the point. which is, just because you choose to end something, doesn't mean its the best, or should be respceted. do you know what an argument is?

it is a flawed concept to think that not doing good at something is somehow not going to look bad on someone. you can pretend all you want, unfortunately thats all you can do about it.

go back and read it. I never once said people do not or will not respect Reed. I said they will respect him less than if he would have quit in his prime. everyone will remember this. you're judged on everything you do, not what you choose.

don't take my words and jumble them around how you see fit. especially if you are too stupid to understand them in the first place.

My point was, Reed would be respected MORE (here's the key word, i'll point that out for you guys who have a hard time with the nuances of written language) had he gone out on top, the words no and respect in my post are a complete figment of your pathetic imagination.

I love that Chad is still out there, but I think about him like I’d think about JS7 if he was in the same place...I hate to see a guy who I love to see ride as much as I do them, and see them struggle.

Heal up fast, Reedy!

It’s also a flawed concept to assume that what you think or believe is also what everyone else thinks or believes.

While I understand the point you’re trying to make, the reports of strong crowd support and long autograph lines suggest that you’re wrong.

Only for the short sighted and of course the ever stalking Reed anti-fans. The fans in Glendale going nuts during the 450 lcq just doesn’t seem right, does it. Jeez, I hope he doesn’t find any of the pace he had in his, oh let’s say, 12th season. Nobody remembers him passing Kenny and James for the win at A2.Wink

I'm wondering what Toomey thought of the few races when MC came back? Or what about Dowd's +40 rides at Southwick? Thankfully most dudes don't throw in the towel and become lazy slobs just because they aren't winning. Some dudes do it for the fun of it....like most on this board do. Some dudes quit as soon as they lose their edge , and other's will stay and fun because they love the fucking sport!

What makes you think Chad Reed really cares about the people saying he should have gone out on top? I'm fairly certain he doesn't concern himself with the ramblings of someone who doesn't respect him or what he does. Also, I'm pretty sure he'd rather be a has been than a never was...

People who criticize Reed and the shit above comparing to suicide just proves people will argue for the sake of it.

There's even posts about him "taking the spot of up and coming riders" as well even though there's plenty of qualifying sessions and heat races to earn a spot in a main event.

But yeah that suicide analogy takes the cake and that he's less respected than if he retired "in his prime".

I love reading just how frustrated some of you retards get over this shit over what is possibly one of the more pointless topics in moto, and some of the arguments you will come up with to try and rationalize whatever goes on in your heads. Keep it coming!!! Smile

Exactly.
I'm really enjoying this series so far, I don't have a means to watch the races but I'm hanging out for the race reports..
I'm really pleased to see Barcia doing so well it's a great story!
I'm really pleased to see Roczen doing so well it's just a beyond belief, incredible story!
I'm really pleased to see Reed still having a crack , especially on his own dime ( more or less ), especially interesting to see how he is prepared to gut it out in the hopes of returning to better form...that's why so many are cheering for him I guess.
A lot of riders are really doing well this year compared to previous, Peick ,spelled that wrong no doubt
Brayton, Malcolm Stewart...
Tomac, missing two then coming back to win two...
It's going to be a very interesting season for us race fans, well it is so far and I hope it stays that way..

Never been a fan of Reed but like Camp said, full respect to him. Also, his legacy in the sport is his to do with as he will. If you view it as reckless or wasteful, I'm sure he wishes you had conferred with him privately, prior to his buying a bike. You may have been able to talk sense to him... If the proper time for anyone to quit is while they're on top, then perhaps some here should take their own advice.

This guy bought a bike and essentially got off the couch/walker and is qualifying with a busted foot. Legend, fulfilling his obligations to sponsors alone is reason to be out there. If MC or RC got off the couch to qualify everyone would think it is the coolest thing. Hey I'd like to see JS get off the couch and ride around with Reed. Reed doesn't need anybody's approval or permission to be out there. Most guys on vital, the point is moot, but - most would get off the couch and line up next week if they really thought they could qualify. I know I would.

Watching Chad ride this year has been painful. Why? Because, he’s OBVIOUSLY taking the least painful lines (when there are such lines). Again, watching him ride whoops & super-technical combos is frustratingly hard to even...well...watch...at all.

The dude was apparently in SERIOUS PAIN @ A1 & again at Houston. At A2 he looked to still be in pain; but, it looked like he’d figured out a chassis set-up for his current “super reserved” riding style.

All the while: he’s scoring points every week (I didn’t get to go to Glendale & it sounds like it’s been his most challenging and probably frustrating week).

I’m of the opinion that the injury may be getting aggravated from all the activity. As I recall, he wasn’t suppose to be “weight bearing” until the 3rd week of January. So, there’s always that.

I think he’s a bad ass.
Is he “absolutely nuts” for even trying to do this? Sure.
But, he’s Chad Fucking Reed.

At first I didn't understand why a legend of the sport would flounder around just trying to make mains. Now I'm on board with the fact he just loves racing and being at the races and everything the experience has to offer for him.
This ^^

Nothing wrong with “going out on top”. Especially if you are in it primarily for money, fame or winning averages.
The vast majority of us race because we like it.
I’d like it better if I could still win, but these days, the choice for this aging child, is race, or not.

I’m spending a million $* to race my SS300 bike in a support race at the World Superbike round in Australia.
There is a good chance I wont even qualify. I think trying to qualify beats watching it on the couch. Because I like racing, and “having a go”. The guy who finishes last, is much faster than the FASTEST spectator.

Chad Reed is faster than anyone on this thread.

(*well, not literally, but the entry was +$600, and tires another $900, its two days drive.....)

I think anyone who doesn't get in the top 10 should retire immediately!!!

How stupid does that sound!?!?!

What else is he going to do? Go race at Chicken Licks Raceway in the +30 Expert class?

Dude can race with the sport's best riders and come away with points. Even if he's doing it just for fun, more power to him.
