I think Malcolm CAN beat Peick, but I don't think he will, at least not early in the season. Peick always starts the season off well, Malcolm usually has to get warmed up a bit.

Everyone knows where he hasnt been since May; Racing a dirtbike. No outdoors, no Euro SX, no Monster cup, no RBSR. His best finish was 9th in St Louis last year which was his only top 10. What reasons are there to expect better?

He joined a team that actually knows how to set up a bike?

I'm sure we all predicted Barcia's instant turnaround (based on what?)

Is Mookie Fever still a phenomenon? I had it last year and gained 10 lbs! All kidding aside, hope it works out for him this time. Like watching him ride, race, and just being out there.

15 years of professional racing and the Stewarts' dont know anybody that can set up a SX bike? Maybe they should find new friends/employees.

Barcia has won 450sx races in the past.

The Stewart's are known for forks set up for whoops that don't settle in the corners. Malcolm managed to make the Suzuki a bad turning bike rather than the best.

I suspect that the biggest factor is a "team". There will likely be a variety of setups already tried and documented, he might even say to make his just like Peick's.

I think Peick has the work ethic. Malcolm layed around for the last year and a half thinking he would get a gift and he did. I think it cheapens Peicks and a lot of other riders efforts that ground it out to stay in the game. It's kind of sad when a riders best hope is that he gets a fill in ride and that doesn't happen unless someone is hurt. I don't think Stewart gets a look at Peick after the gate drops.
You don't get to Mookie's level or become a champ without putting in a little work. Talent only takes you so far.

That being said, his talent has gotten him as far as it will. Gonna need to be able to at least go 15 minutes without getting tired.

You guys are crazy if you don't think that man doesn't have top 5 speed. Do I think he can finish in the top 5? No, I don't think he can. The guy has skills that we can only dream about. Call me crazy but I think he hasn't gotten a 450 ride b/c he grew up in the big money era of SX/MX and keeps turning down offers that he doesn't think are lucrative enough. He was a teenager flying all over the world on his brother's private jet. There was big money flying around 8-10 years ago. I'm sure he expects some big $$$. That and I've heard he doesn't have an agent. If his dad is putting his deals together it's easy to see why he has trouble finding a ride. You hear all the time how this rider was beating on the door of this team or that. It's almost like he thinks his royalty status should be enough to lock down a multi year, multi-million dollar deal. If he wanted it badly enough he'd be in shape and knocking on every door in town. I'm excited to see him out there. I hope he lands a deal and rides SX/MX so everyone can be quiet!!! Good luck #27

He's constantly posting videos of him putting in laps on his practice track and pics of him at the gym or out on his road bike. I hope he does really well. He seems like a really cool likable guy. Where all the negativity comes from towards him is beyond me....

Now don't take offense to this Mr. Depp, but your reasoning doesn't quite work really. If I'm correct, you are saying that in the past that Malcolm has been on a team that didnt' know bike setup, but now he is with JGR, but you reference Barcia in your argument that who would have expected him to do so well. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he's been with JGR for several seasons now, and if JGR is great at bike setup, why is Barcia now doing so well since leaving JGR. I'm not trying to piss on your parade, but the numbers here just don't add up. For the record, I've always liked Malcolm, as he always seems to be smiling and generally like dirt cycles, but his results in the longer duration races (big bikes) just haven't lived up to his perceived potential.

Ha Ha you are right about JGR's rep. I'm comparing it to MS27's privateer effort that was a last minute parts bin with no pre season prep.

If you run a rigid front end, you can rock on the whoops and jumps, and corner OK "if" you stay forward on the bike and weight the front. As soon as you get tired and settle into the middle of the seat, you will have to back off the pace, or risk losing the front in corners (which Mookie did several times).

Remember the 1st few races last year when ET3 was slow? Then round 3? they changed from his chopper setup and he started a win streak. Setup can make or break you.

Here is one example that is fun to watch as JA21 loops out trying to avoid getting hit by MS47's endo'ing Zook's spinning rear tire. Zook's aren't supposed to tuck the front.

And just to make my point here.....

I'm not saying Malcolm can't put down a 6th - 8th fast qualifying lap. The " fitness " thing I hit on the other day ( and got blasted ) is where I'm coming from. He'll need all he can get in those 20min mains. So the guys saying that I didn't know what I was talking about.....I guess we'll wait and see.

Putting in a fast lap is one thing. Where he finishes in the main will be another. Hence proving my point of what I was trying to say. He hasn't been training the way a guy should have been training.

On a side note : I do think he was a good choice for a fill in ride. He has something they can work with. But wins? C'mon dudes sheesh!!
The internet is a interesting place..I see you got often on this site I'm just wondering what's your experience in this sport, not trying to be ass wipe! Who on this post can even qualify for a main against any of these guys! And can any of you guys even beat Malcolm or James thier bad day? James left JGR because of the Yamaha and rode a Suzuki the next 2years I believe had a decent season in 2014.. James had a very good career with Jeremy as his mechanic, obviously Jeremy and JGR see something in Malcolm that perhaps will benefit them both and I'm sure JGR will have Malcolm training ! If Malcolm has his fitness he can do top 10's. Your comment can be respectful!

I think being around the JGR team will definitely help Malcom with his fitness and with daily competition, it will make him stronger. Also, working with the factory will get his bike set up much better than when he was footing the bill for the parts. If I recall, he had a mild Yosh package and was getting killed on the starts with last years bike. So it's a win-win situation and I think he sticks with JGR. They always seem to stick with the same guys.

I have an idea:

How about everyone waits to watch the race and see what happens instead of saying things like:
"I see him as..."
"He's an X-place finisher"
"so and so will finish ahead of him..."
"His fitness is ...such and such.."

Oh right, this is Vital Forums. Sorry I forgot.

They should implement a system where every time you make a wrong prediction you get locked out of the forums for x number of days.... then maybe some of these boneheaded speculations and predictions would go away.

Baggett didn't even finish in the top 10 at A1. Malcolm is great, but I don't think a top 10 is in the cards.

You can tuck the front end on anything. Especially with SX setup. Nice theory though.
