I never really noticed that Carmichael barely wore the #1 plate. I think he only rode with it for his final race on a Honda. How does the rule work on this? Is it for supercross you have to use the #1 plate if your the defending champion, but outdoors you can use your permanent number?

I agree. You would have to time warp '07 RC then he would still win

He was at a disadvantage with the 250 so I think he was even better on the 450.

He went 24-0 on the 2002 CR250r & 2004 CRF450r. I would venture & say he was very good on both bikes. I think back then the CR was making close to 60 hp so I don't think he was at a disadvantage. He also proved it imo when he raced the MXON on his 03 CR250r against all the factory 450's & won the race.

He was at a disadvantage on the two stroke. Everyone is, the fact that he won that much on it in 03 speaks way more about RC than the bike. When he got on 450s it was good night competition.

The rule that you have to run the 1 came in after he retired.. Which is funny cause he has made 4 'his number' but would've only run it once (I think) in his whole career if the defending 1 rule was around

And he won every overall in '05. I think he lost 2 motos that year. The 1st moto at southwick when he waded up, still got up and got 2nd and then went and won the 2nd moto. And he lost the 1st moto at unadilla when bubba landed on him, still got up and got 2nd and then the 2nd moto he won. RC was a animal and never ever gave up. And he won every overall in his farewell outdoor tour in '07.

Yep. Windham on the 450 was giving RC some trouble in 2003 and RC alluded many times to the disadvantage of the 2-stroke. I was at the Broome-Tioga round and RC was all over Windham, absolutely stretching the throttle cable to the limit but Windham just kept out powering him on the hills and out of the corners.

The Carmichael Honda years are the most dominant rider-manufacturer relationship that ever existed. Ricky won 5 of the 5 championships he competed in. Winner of 33/35 nationals, 18/32 supercross races, 2003 Individual Winner at the MXDN.

According to Davey Coombs, that still didn't qualify him as one of the top 10 Honda riders of all time:

Is this from Broome tioga the table the passes the start ? If so that was after he crashed he went nuts and way over shot that. I was standing right there and and the entire crowd gasped when he hit it. It was so sick to see in person

Racer X had a magazine with the front pic on the front cover and the back pic on the rear cover. I thought it was really cool.

Edit...looks like I was late to the party.

If you went to any of those races you
Would know he was at a disadvantage. He had that thing pinned all
Over the track and struggled with windham and ferry on hills. You could see it and he even mentioned it many times.

I was there that day too. Stretching the throttle cable is right. He pushed that thing sooo hard. I won’t forget that ever.
