Serious question, what's the hype or benefit about this "steel frame"? I always see people on here talking about the steel frame like it's magical. I know ktm and huskys are great bikes, but always wondered why people talk so highly of the frames. If any one can give me a serious factual answer it would be highly appreciated.

It all started at Phoenix in 2012 when RC mentioned something on the TV broadcast about Dungey being the only rider on a steel frame bike and how the additional flex might help him on the hard Phoenix track. Dungey won that night and every C-class hero has been touting the benefits of the additional flex ever since.
For real. Half the dudes talking about it don’t even know a difference but those are the dudes with 12k bikes getting smoked racing in 40+ C LOL

Yes, they did "make room" for a 3rd rider. Outdoors, next year.

His name is ZachO.

Ever try an old school fork brace? SuperRigidity is nor always the answer to bikes handling correctly.

Yep aware of that. Surely they can make room for him during SX? Its easier to make room for SX than MX

then again there are a few Japanese bikes now that handle better than a steel framed bike, go figure

It is all opinion based. What actual figures do you have to prove his statement? I have ridden them all, and honestly cannot feel that big of a difference between the two...Has more to do with the geometry of the frames more than material IMO
Of course it is, and I am speaking from my experience at my riding level. Not sure why you need actual figures??? some of my thoughts are also backed up with shootout comments, a couple of Japanese bikes handle just perfectly fine (more than fine) with no steel frame.

and I totally agree that geometry clearly is most of the reason ...look at Steadman's post then you will see why I said what I did.

Yeh wow just read it .. Not looking good at all. Love his honesty. Like I mentioned in another thread He looks way out of shape and it takes time to get back in shape at 36. He can do it by A1, But all those other guys are in shape already there so far ahead of the game. Geez I hope it works out.. He def needs some luck. I'd be concerned if I was the promotorr of Aus X. As far as monster goes I feel like they have faded him and it feels like Fox have gone shy.. Could be wrong. Just interested though what course he was doing the last 3 months . Best of Luck to him ,, could be a swan song this weekend

He's definitely bitter about Monster. There's being dropped and there's being dropped followed by using the media to take digs at the company and their events. All of a sudden RBSR is such a sick off season event but MEC is a dangerous, pointless event. Fair calls, but it was evident to me that he's used that interview to go out of his way to bag the event, as well as call out Tomac not wanting to be there.

Massive Reed fan, but like I said in another thread we're mid October and he's definitely not been riding. This latest interview, to me, shines a bright light on how far behind he really is. No ride, no decision on what bike, no riding, no training, no Monster money no more, dude almost sounds depressed, bitter and disinterested with it all.

Really hoping the ball gets rolling so he's got some sort of base for A1.

TBF, he's been pretty vocal about the Monster cup being shit before. But he's also been vocal about lots of things being shit. So there's that.

He sounds like he's mentally given up and not interested. I dont think we will see him unless the white brand gives him a deal of some type.

Ill give him 3 races and 2 top 15s before he complains about the bike, even though hes going to pick the bike somehow it will be a piece of crap. Mark it.

A honest interview, kinda sad to read....i wonder what this ment?...

Honestly in the end its all about what you as a rider feels more comfortable with. Roger Decoster said it best, there is just some areas where the steel will be better at and vice versa. Each rider likes different charachter but i guess we cant denie that KTM got something special since they are the only one on steel. To me personally it feels more nimble than any aluminium. Take into considiration that it depends on the engine and suspension, KTM have been doing back to back with their package and they still believe chromoly works best. Honestly i think the best thing to do is to ride them back to back for a while and you decide.

Easier to keep the steel clean Wink if you dont like scotch brite!

Steel frame dont last as long as aluminium. It get's more flex in use and has to be replaced sooner.

This is a true statement but likely applies to only 1% of the bikes sold. The rest will never be ridden hard enough or long enough to matter.

He and Hanny teaming up??

That would be completely different for him and someone who already has a tie to husky and a rig to get to all the supercross races.

Wouldn't be all that bad with help from PC, like he said pipe & silencer, ECU and some suspension.

Didn't Hanny get back on a Zook or something?

Well he said he put himself in this situation, at least he was honest. Him and JB51 being w/o teams just shows how tough this sport has gotten...
