I have fun riding it but I spend more time on my 450. I'm debating selling it. I don't have to have the money but I hate that it sits so much. But then again it's set up perfect for me and every time I consider selling I talk myself out of it. lol
I just started riding a year ago and hoping to keep learning to eventually start racing.
If you guys don't mind, could you give your opinion about your sprocket size setup? I'm running a 12x53 and I think this setup makes spin the wheel so much and I'm reving a lot in straights.
I want to try a smaller sprocket size, any suggestions?
Cheers!
The bike has:
-BUD-Racing/HGS pipe&silencer
-BUD-Racing cylinder head
-Pro Circuit linkage
-WP Trax shock
-SXS forks
-Hollis wheels and brake discs
-Selle Dalla Valle SXS seat
-Factory team replica graphics kit
Here is my 2000 cr125. It does have the 01 oem graphics though. I have had it since I was 16. I am 34 now and still ripping it. There is nothing like putting a pass on someone who is riding a bigger bike than you. Especially when you are 6'9" and 250lbs before gear. KEEP IT SCREAMIN!
Frodad, what's you final configuration?
Would rider weight matter at choosing sprockets? or would be mostly track conditions?
Thanks guys!

Sure I get pulled on some of the hills , but god damn it!!....that 125 is teaching me how important corner speed is , along with a bunch of other stuff.
I hit 5.2 hours on mine yesterday , and at the track we were riding I finally cleared every single big jump there that I was doing on my 450 and 250 2 stroke. And I know for a fact I still have a lot more in the tank when it comes to speed on this thing.
I haven't said much....but it's mainly because I'm partially shocked at what I'm starting to be able to do on this bike. I still have some setup stuff to do , along with practice , but right now....I'm totally kicking my stupid ass for not getting a 125 sooner!!
On the gearing...I believe mine is at 14/50. Until yesterday I was convinced I might need a 51T in the rear. My opinion changed yesterday , and I think after I get my exhaust put on this thing , I think I may actually drop a tooth and go to a 49T.
Some of the bigger jumps when I have it wound tight in 3rd or 4th....I could use just a tad bit more top end speed without having to click it up to the next gear.
I have to say....the 125 is probably ( as of right now ) my most favorite bike I've ever owned. Not just the 125...but Husky has me as a customer for life. Still wanting that TC 250 if I can afford one later summer!
I was the guy on the video on page one that pulled a fat holeshot from the outside with a gate full of 450's and 250's on a 125. Since then I won my LL area qualifier on my 450 in the Over 50 class. I have since sold my 450 and gone back to a 125 and will race it at the Regional in a couple of weeks. Wish me luck!!!
This is a shot of me on the 125 at 3 Palms near Houston a few weeks ago. Raced the Over 50 class. They gated us with the Over 25 and Over 35. Was able to holeshot every moto (3 moto format that day) and won my class and also beat the Over 25 and Over 35 riders.
The bike was stock then other than a PC pipe and silencer. JM Racing does my suspension. Its at JM right now getting some motor work done. Keeping it 125cc, just getting some head, cylinder and carb mods.
I'm 55.
I would say gearing preference depends a ton on the track and the riders ability. I have to carry alot of momentum with my taller gearing and be ready with the clutch, but...its easier to carry that mo with the taller gearing!
Post a reply to: Older Vet guys...and their 125's.
