What if Tomac wins his 10th race this weekend, then his bike takes a shit last lap in Vegas. While he was leading? Would RD really feel
Like the champ?

That's kind of the way I've looked at it, if Dungey wins this thing he'll have earned it 110% but unless he just steps it up and waxes Eli at these next two races I don't think everything will be roses in the Dungey camp knowing how much better he was. Win or lose he blew a 29 point lead at about the halfway mark when I would bet he thought it was a sure thing he would end up champion.

Once Roczen crashed out, I was 100% sure it was his title. Im glad it went down the way it did. Nice to see a tithe chase for once!

Ok.. next question. Will dungey get "dirty"? I don't think it happens this weekend but if he can keep the points in reach I think we'll see some bar bangin in vegas.

On a side note I just saw a SX commercial on FS1 and they said Dungey's "final shot at a 4th championship." I know it's widely thought this is his last go around but I haven't heard anything official.

Dungey will have to ride out of his comfort zone and at this stage of his career, that isnt a smart move. Title or no title, pushing more than he is already could be a disaster for him. I see him doing what he did last weekend and making sure he gets good gate picks and good starts and do all he can to make Tomac chase him down. Hes a smart guy, risk/ reward ratio at this point.... not worth it to him.

Its over folks. Dungey had a great career. He has no reason to feel bad. I prefer the greats to go out swinging instead of walking away leaving a ton on the table. Job well done Ryan.

Dunge will do what he has to,but I don't see him riding over his head to run Tomac's pace...im sure he wants to finish out the year and then retire.

I saw this post from main event Moto and the caption to me is really spot on. You can tell who wants it more watching these races. Yes Ryan is riding his heart out most likely but Eli wants it more. Dunge definitely had it all going for him last weekend great start, clean track, no mistakes and Eli straight up wanted it more and beat him coming from a large deficit, and then droppped him. Be it starting 1-2 or 1-10 dunge just doesn't have what it takes right now.

He will do what he always does.....he will keep coming and Eli will need to beat him. It would not be the first time or first rider he has cracked with his consistency. Not saying it is going to happen, but you know he will be there being the "diesel".

May the best rider win!

Pretty much everyone not named Eli.
Perhaps cracked is too strong a definition.

Eli knows if he gets a shit start he can still win. That HAS to be nice to know. With that knowledge he doesn't have to get a good start, therefor he doesn't have to take those race ending risks in the beginning of the moto.

I wouldnt go so far as to say that. Dungey has a method, very strong mental fortitude along with very finesse style of riding. Only a few others currently can match his riding, even less can match his mental game. He doesnt really crack anyone, they simply dont have the mental game he has, they crack themselves and Dungey just does his thing. Problem is, Tomac can match him all on levels and superceeds him in speed. If anyone has cracked, its Dungey. But i dont think he has. He is too smart for that. I think he is going to finish this season as he has raced up to this point and what happens happens.

One thing I dont understand with Dungey fans is the continuous comments of Tomac is going to crack, lay it down, etc. Can any Dungey fans accept that maybe, just like Dungey did a few years ago, maybe, Tomac has come in to his prime? He may have laid it down in the past, made a stupid error, what have you. But can it not also be, Tomac put it together and is at the start of his moment? I admire the heck out of Dungey, but being realistic, We are watching Tomac start his era and the closing of Dungeys. And what better way to watch it happen, a fight to the final race. This is a season to remember for sure.

Dungey looked lethargic out there last week...looked like he was just doing practice laps. He needs to take a few days off from training and rest, but that's not his coach's style. He'll probably be even more worn out this weekend.

How about everyone he has ever raced in the 450 class minus RV until this point.

Tomac could become only the second rider to win a SX title over Dungey in his 450 career.

Keep in mind the race was at altitude last week. That was always going to be an advantage for Tomac.

Eli is absolutely slaying it right now, but that has been his weakness in the past......too much speed/too much dirt nap.

Hope he keeps the rubber pointing down....I think he deserves this.

This! The second part of your post I have been saying for the past 8ish weeks or so. Why does it have to be the Tomac is riding at too high of a level to maintain and he's bound to crash out at any moment?

The "dominate then crash" has happened to Tomac before. I think that's in the back of everyone's mind. I pray not though, because he is f*cking riding like a literal legend this year .

Oh really… So if Eli has a mechanical and does not finish the next race, and dungry wins the championship he deserves it? What kind of BS is that?

Nope. There is nothing he can do. The fact that Tomac started almost dead last and still won just shows that he's gonna catch you no matter where he is.

The kind that acknowledges that winning championships isn't JUST about being the fastest guy...it's ALSO about consistency, and keeping the bike together, and keeping it on two wheels.

So if Tomacs bike breaks at the next race and he DNF's...he won't score as many championship points as Dungey, and thus doesn't deserve the championship.
