Foothill Ranch, CA (April 10, 2017) – Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. has inked a multi-year contract extension with supercross and motocross star Eli Tomac to ride for the Monster Energy Kawasaki race team. The Colorado native is currently in the middle of an incredible win streak and title fight aboard his KX™450F motorcycle in Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship race.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to stay with Monster Energy Kawasaki,” said Tomac. “The team has put a lot of faith in me over the last year, which has given me the confidence I need to win. We have put in a lot of work and it is good to see it paying dividends.”

Tomac joined the team beginning with the 2016 season, where he captured one win and five podium finishes en route to fourth in the final supercross standings. He carried the momentum outdoors, earning a pair of overall victories and 10 podium results in a strong runner-up effort in the AMA Pro Motocross Championship. Tomac finished off the 2016 season with two MXGP wins and the Monster Energy Cup Championship.

Tomac’s second season with the team in 2017 has been a breakout one thus far, highlighted by eight race wins including a five-race winning streak. With three races remaining Tomac has earned fastest laps in 10 of the 14 main events and tops the rider point standings.

with him figuring out the bike (ie winning on it) i didnt see him leaving. If it had been almost outdoors (like KROC from last year) i couldve seen him leaving

Eli staying with the team and bike that he just whooped everyone's ass for the majority of this sx season is probably not a big motivation for dungey to keep going. as dungey said it himself, he hated losing to RV and wanted to quit back then. I don't ever claim anything as fact, but I thought that KTM would make a real good push to sign Tomac. I like KTM, Tomac, Decoster and Dungey. I was mostly hoping that Dungey would win the ship this year, KTM would sign Tomac for next season and continue winning. But I'm perfectly content with Tomac winning this year, resigning with Monster Kawi (even though I've never been a fan of Kawi and sure as shit don't drink that poison).

Thank you for the update ML. As a big Tomac fan this is great news. I didn't want to see him having to adapt to a new bike.

Yup, no real surprise here, both have been geling well (bike and rider). I dont think there are major changes to the 2018 model so that will bode well for Eli as well (i.e. known base to work with).

I'm not insinuating that Dungey's decision would be based on Roger's future, but that another team would put incredible pressure on Eli to sign a deal before Ryan made up his mind. Every week Eli does not sign the deal with Kawi, once it's presented, he runs the risk of something happening that could cause that potential deal to disappear. Where millions and millions of dollars are concerned, Eli has much more to lose by waiting for a comparable offer to come along, than what he might gain should a better offer be in the future.
Now we have Microsoft involved in the sport, and they have over 110 billion dollars in cash and short term investments. Does Suzuki make a run at Ryan?

This is some pretty dang awesome news to hear. Glad he's sticking with it and getting to the point of gelling with his bike.

I don't know if he's quite up to the pre-crash 2015 Eli yet...but he sure is looking like he's getting there.

He stays healthy....there will be some serious ass whooping going on over the next few years. Eli is such a freaking beast!

Have to hand it to Kawasaki for getting to Eli early before other teams threw their buckets of cash at him. The guy is in the best possible bargaining position right now. If Dungey, after Vegas announces his retirement (purely speculation, as is the rest of this completely uneducated post..), then maybe KTM backs up the Brink's truck to Eli's door and Kawasaki may lose him. In any case, they struck early and locked him down. Great move. I mean, he seems to be picking up the pace as of late....

If you read MXAs drivel, you think that KTM is the brand with an advantage over the big 4...like they can make moves and the big 4 just have no idea whats going on in mx. Well its bullshit and Im glad eli has shown these ktm fanboys the door. If ktm/redbull have SO much money, why did they look to rockstar for husky?

As soon as Eli started gelling with that bike I knew he wasn't going anywhere. He looks so good on that bike. I can imagine he feels very comfy. Why change what's working? Plus I'm sure Kawi knew he would be getting multiple offers so they struck early and probably really big. Can't afford to lose him.

I don't see what suzuki has to do with microsoft. rch's contract with suzuki has to be renewed this year as far as I am aware, so they might not even be on suzuki's next year. besides that, I'm pretty sure suzuki (all factory teams in fact) has cash to afford dungey if they really wanted to put in an offer.

I don't care where dungey goes. I just want whoever is supposed to be taking over for decoster to be listening and taking notes. What he has done with ktm since he got there has been pretty awesome and he's getting old. No stopping that, so whoever takes over, I hope can continue the path that they (ktm) has been on.
