As a note, the amount of points Chad has been docked is the same he earned during the race. Meaning, he's basically been DQ'd or black flagged in that race from a retrospective sense.

Chad Reed has been docked five championship points and fined $5,000 after failing to acknowledge blue flags in St. Louis, the AMA announced on Monday.

The two-time champion was running 16th in the 450SX Main Event when he was caught by Eli Tomac and Ryan Dungey, who were racing for the victory. Tomac passed Reed with ease, but Dungey was unable to do the same.
For three laps, Reed would ignore blue flags and ride in the preferred racing line, making it hard for Dungey to get past. By the time the defending champion finally found a way around the Yamaha, he would face a seven-second deficit to Tomac. And with only four minutes plus one lap remaining in the race, it forced Dungey to settle for second and handed the win to his title rival.

It was determined by the Race Director that Reed "failed to follow the direction of the AMA officials indicated by the blue flag. In doing so, rider #22 did impede the faster rider’s progress" and as a result, faced a fine and was docked the five championship points he earned in St. Louis. The $5,000 will be donated to the Alpinestar Mobile Medical Unit.

"I just don't know why [Reed] has to get involved with me and Eli's position," Dungey said after the race. "If he was on the same lap, I'd understand, I think we all would, but he's a lapper.

"I guess I don’t know where this attitude and everything is coming from... That guy’s been around a long time and that much experience, you’d think he would understand what it’s like to be in the position that I am. But he has no respect for us and what we’re doing, what we’re trying to do. I have a lot of respect for the guy, still do, but tonight was a low blow.”
Dungey's lead over Tomac now sits at just four points as the series heads to CenturyLink Field in Seattle. Reed, who has not made a statement since the incident, is ninth in points.

We are seeing the team tactics that they all said weren't gonna happen.... Marvin drops an anchor for KTM and Reed holds the race line for Monster

Marvin didn't drop an anchor. If you honestly believe that then you're a complete moron who realistically doesn't deserve a response.

Chad didn't do this because of monster. He did it because he was pissed at Dungey. If you honestly think he did this to benefit Tomac then again, you're a complete moron.

I've been a Chad Reed fan ever since he crossed the pond and I'm still a fan however I'm glad he got penalized and fined for doing what he did. He knows damn well what the blue flag means and he's seen plenty of them while he was contenting for championships so I have no idea why he simply didn't take all of two seconds to pull to the side after the tunnel. He himself has complained about lappers not obeying the blue flags in the past. I get that he's been around the sport a long time but it doesn't make him more entitled because of that.

Now the question is will he act like a baby and complain like he usually does or leave it be and move on like a grown up?

Good decision. Hopefully Chad will come out and apologize for acting like a butthurt schoolgirl but I doubt his ego would allow that.

The best I can hope for is that he doesn't do it again, he could end up ruining the best finale to a series for years.

Chad didn't ride crazy, he held his line...if Dungey is so much faster it shouldn't have been an issue.

What I do love though is Dunge made his comment on the podium, Chad didn't say shit, didn't get all tough on twitter, but he SHOWED Dungey how he felt....nothing wrong with that.

I recind my comment above. Considering his finish, they basically just took away what he earned in Detroit.

Don't know if that is true because all I saw was the FS1 telecast, which didn't show much, but ditching his mechanic & heading straight for the pits tells me all I need to know. EABOD bitches.

Is the FIM going to at least wash Dungeys mouth out with soap for saying mean things about Chad.

Dungeons fights like a little sister,
he opens up a can of worms running his mouth, Reed shuts him up, and FIM Dad fines him for picking on a little girl

the Ray #314 incident was the only one on TV. During the whole day he was trying to slam anyone near him.
He was going for straight t-bones all night. The TV broadcast didn't show but Grant passed him on the last lap of their heat and Barcia tried to t-bone him in the corner before the finish line.

Yup and I bet Marvin will drop Anchor again for a reason he can't explain.
Marvin did land on the concrete in a daytime qualifying crash, and mentioned his whole left side was pretty sore. Sometimes there's a lot of behind the scenes stuff we don't know. And he beat Dungey the 2 races before St. Louis, so maybe the team orders to "drop anchor" just went into effect this weekend?

Fucking bullshit. If they were gonna do something about it, then they should've given him a black flag during the race.

Reed is the fan favorite in STL. Pretty sure my wife and I were the only ones booing in my section.

I'd rather them take the time to go back, review the situation, and THEN make a ruling rather than make an immediate impulsive decision like they've done in the past.

What Reed did wasn't right but this penalty is bull shit.

Yes Reed didn't move (He held his line) But Dungey just followed him.
Shit if he's not moving you figure that out after a few corners, Push Reed
out of the way and chase Tomac. Its what any other rider would have done.

Held his line? He blocked the race line... Have you seen the lap times? Reed sped up significantly to stay in front of Dungey. They were his fastest 3 laps. Kind of ironic.

Theres no excusing this and what a terrible sportsman example to give to kid racers out there.

Im huge Reed fan, but this was a really shitty move that tarnishes his epic legacy.

I really hope he gets in front of this and apologises publicly.

As a fan, I have faith that he will.

I expect that the crowd will boo him next weekend.

I'm not a fanboy of any of the racers. I'm just a fan of the sport. I was really rooting for Reed this season. It would have been awesome to see him win one. Last weekend was very disappointing.

Roadblock Reed!

He's lapping Reed FFS, he shouldn't have to consider any of the above.

We all know the potocol when your getting lapped; get the fuck out of the way. And when theres a championship battle in progress, get the fuck out of the way even faster.

Im a fan too, but theres no defending this one.

You need to read the entirety of Appendix A of the rule book (The part dealing with rules and enforcement). The rules specifically allow for this type of action. The penalty handed out was consistent with past penalties and at least set a precedent for failing to follow the rules. Sadly the damage done could be much greater when compared to the penalty (in this situation), but, in isolation (i.e. failing to comply with the blue flag) the penalty seems appropriate.

My thoughts exactly.

Dungey had no chance at passing Tomac no matter what. The only way he can beat Marvin is if Roger pays him.

Prove it then. Prove that Marvin was capable of running Tomacs speed like Dungey was. You can't, because it's totally false. Dungey reeled Marvin in last week after a horrible start. Marvin has beat dungey what, about 5 times in his whole entire career and you want to sit here and accuse him of dropping the anchor for Dungeys championship hopes? Get real man, you are absolutely a complete moron.

Why do you Reed fanboys keep bringing up Musquin like it is some justification? They are on the same fucking team. If Musquin feels like being a "team player" and allowing his teammate to earn more points, that's good strategy.

How is that relevant to the situation at all? Who would have won the Tomac and Dungey battle is totally irrelevant. The fact is, reed held up a guy who was lapping him as retaliation. That's it. Yet again, another example of how much of a moron you are.

Reed was being a fucking tool for those three laps and we all knew it. The crowd knew it, Dungey knew it, Reed knew it.

He was being a dirty cunt because of Dungeys podium speech.

This is what we saw and all we need to know.
