Goat's track designs at Daytona suck

For the last few years I have not been impressed with the track designs at the Daytona SX.
Last nights was the worst.
I think passing was dangerous in all but two spots and nearly impossible everywhere else (RD not withstanding).
The best example was Friese winning the Semi over Chad. Never happen on a well designed course.
I think Ricky is trying to stuff 10 pounds of shit into a 5 pound bag. That leaves a narrow mostly one lined track that is difficult to pass on.

Curious what parameters they have to meet, he seemed to blame it on that. One thing I noticed that was odd was a certain section seemed very narrow, believe it was a few turns before the sand section.

Emig even pointed out on the broadcast that it was one lined. S turns will never work

It was very unimpressive in my opinion but everyone had to ride the same track. I suspect all fans of motocross liked it better than just about any supercross track. Not sure what to do to fix it. The one lined tracks (not just this one) need to be fixed. I could care less if the are vastly different from each other. Just change the obstacles and with a basic layout that works.

I was there .... almost impossible to pass on. Only one fast way around the track

It would be interesting to know what his limitations are on where the track can and cannot go. You'd think that RC could design a better track than that if he didn't have any limitations placed on him. The tracks the last few years have definitely been less than stellar.

The one thing he did in years past is put the finish line at the end of a long straight so it was a drag race to get to the finish. Saw a lot of close finishes with it like that.

I don't know. I didn't see a bad track this year. Nothing to really complain about and I am usually critical of tracks. Wasn't too bad in my opinion. Daytona is very long but very narrow track. That's what they have to work with.

I think RC said before in a video(not talking about this particular track, but a previous track at Daytona), that there were certain drainage areas, pipes and/or irrigation lines for the grass, and a bunch of other stuff he had to navigate around. I'm betting there's a lot of these scattered around to catch water runoff from the banked speedway.

So the other 87 percent of guys who maybe made 1 or two but otherwise followed the leader?

Maybe the other 87 percent should get better at passing. This is the big league, do it better than everyone else or you lose. Simple as that.

Like I said. Before I even saw the track built, "The GOAT made a #GOATpath." Terrible track. I still say he builds it for Sunday amateurs and not the pros.

Dude, McGrath didn't design that track, Dick Carmichael did.

Agree.
Dungey and some others didn't have a problem passing. Hell Tomac found a way around Martin.
They're pros. Figure it out. That's what you're paid to do.

As RC said on the broadcast, lots of restrictions, plus they widened the pit lane for NASCAR.
So that took away some of the space he has to work with.

I enjoyed it

They should put way less shit all over the place. The track seemed to have no flow. Make it more about the roughness, less about the shit everywhere.

seemed a lot like it always does to me. If an ET or RD or someone who usually has more speed than the rest gets a crappy start, they seem to find their way past the slower guys no matter the track.. This one didn't strike me as an more one line than most others.

On a related note, did anyone get badly hurt/ I missed it if they did.

a lot of those guys are equal in speed to one another once you get past the ETs and RDs and such. They never do much passing and the start becomes paramount.

Agreed, it was like many of the tracks this year, one-lined, neither better nor worse than most. That said, the track layouts this year have seemed to reach an all time low in design. It seems to be more of an accident than by design when there is a good track.

Not to criticize RC, but why is there always an assumption that because we have a great rider designing the track that there will be a great track? Kind of like assuming a great carpenter will automatically design a great building. (That's what we have architects and design professionals for).

Now before I get the usual "let's see you design a better track" comment. I can't design tracks, wouldn't even try. If I needed a good track design I'd get the best professional design team. Just suggesting maybe SX ought to do the same or at least have a long talk with the designers that came up with the recent batch of tracks.

I disagree. Last nights, IMO, was his best yet!

Why do you think he is called "The Goat"? I say let Travis Pastrana design the track or bring back Gary Bailey and some limestone. Also make it a day race like it used to be. Then the riders and mechanics can go up to Main Street in Daytona that night and get loaded with all the bikers.

Does anyone else read the title and think "Brecker did not design this track, Carmichael did.".

No shit. I liked it. Like others said Dungey passed a lot of very very good riders from way back. So the rest of the excuses and bitching hold no water as far as I'm concerned. We get what maybe 2-3 really good sx tracks a year anyway. Eventually you run out of designs that work when trying to make things fresh.
