Whats your verdict on these timed races?

Love it, been wanting timed races for last few years. They need to open the corners up some, if they make the corners really tight they're gonna get chewed up cause everyone follows the same line.

There's nothing better than a two Moto format. Just like the monster energy cup. It's not confusing, we do it in the outdoors. If you're waiting to see that Dungey and Tomac battle, or any two top riders, well they're in separate heats most of the time, so, you wait through all the qualifying and once the main event comes, Dungey gets a good start and tomac is back in 10th and the friggin race is over… At least with two Moto's, they get a second shot, WE AS FANS get a second shot at seeing another battle in an additional race.

To an outsider, there is nothing more confusing then heats, semis, lcq, now timed main events? And the 450s are the only ones with semis?
Just explaining the difference between the 250s and 450s is confusing enough, believe I would know, I've had to explain this stuff my whole life to people. 2 Moto mains for both classes is the way to go
Yeppers. I'm with this. As a matter of fact do the same thing the aussie sx did a few years ago with 3 moto formats. Have a 125, 250, and open classes. Get all of the qualifying done on Friday afternoon and sat morning via however the fuck they want to do it. Timing races whatever. The night show could still be 3 hours. 1st hour 125 moto 1, 250 moto 1, and open moto 1. These could be timed like they are now or whatever to allow a brief intermission for track maintenance after each set of motos. repeat this 2 more timies. Night show is 3 hours like now. All motos are points paying equally. Every moto you watch would count and there would be more meaningful racing. Plus the return of the 125 class would be exciting as hell! Anywayzzz just dreaming! hello monday haha

I definitely think its better when we have these small tracks and guys are running sub 50 second lap times
2/20/2017 6:02am
How many times are we gonna say 'they need more dirt' before someone spins out on the face of a triple and gets seriously hurt ?

It's borderline negligence at this point and is happening at almost every track.

Two thumbs up! Longer racing! I used to hate how short the races were when they had 47 second lap times.

Longer mains are much better than 15 and 20 lap main events with 40 and 50 second lap times. But all they did was just make all the qualifying races shorter to make the mains longer. So as far as the fan getting to see the top rider's race more nothing has changed. It is just an illusion, the circus show is still 3 hours on TV with a lot of commercials and those stupid filler segments, just like before. The Heats, Semi's, and LCQ's should also be longer. Get rid of the stupid photos of people on bikes in their living room watching the race, the science of motocross, the cutaway bike tip of the day, rider profiles and less commercials (the same ones over and over really suck) will give the extra time for more racing. Fans just want to see some good racing for a longer time. But the tracks should hold up and be safe for that amount of time also. Longer mains means you must have better track prep with more dirt to keep the plywood and concrete floor from showing. That is just common sense. As far as lapped riders go, once there lap times are over a pre-determined lap time or they begin to just start rolling the jumps, stopping on the track, and just getting in the way they should be black flagged and removed from track ASAP. It is dangerous enough for all of the riders and slow riders only make it worse. They should be black flagged no matter how long a race is in the main event, heats, or practice. If the slower rider does not pull off when black flagged, the rider should be fined by the AMA. Just my opinion....

I like this ideal, makes sense and brings back the 125 class that most fans want to see.

I like it and the info gathered this year should be part of improvements for next year on track surface breakdown.

I do find myself again thinking 450's are just too much for these indoor tracks though. I would also prefer the 450 class be setup like the 250's and do two heat races with one LCQ. Now, you have time for a 125 race which was determined by pre-qualified timing before the program in the evening. I know....stupid idea.

Exactly my thoughts. The spectator is getting more for his $$ but it's more risk for the riders being they are on the track longer

I love the timed races. Fitness and focus in the latter part of the race is key with the extended laps.

I like timed racing. That was cool..

The lapped traffic was a mess. It looked similar to an AX track.
2/20/2017 9:17am
it's way way better

imagine how shit the other night would have been? 20 laps @: 47 seconds and 15 laps at 49, errr no thanks

Making the racing timed was a decision made not to benefit the viewer but to benefit the organization of the show.

Correct. It was purely so TV could better manage break points and placement of advertising. I have no problem with any of that.

On the other hand, read back through the subject matter on this thread. Bare concrete? Forty-five-second lap times? Do we need any better testimonials as to why Supercross fundamentally sucks?

Defiantly good for the viewers and more track time for riders I would say we need safer tracks but these are top athletes on open class bikes. Makes me think maybe we need a 125 class again make it east west then have full 250 and 450 classes

Completely agree, but if anything changes, it will be less racing. All they care about is maximizing the amount of advertisement they can fit into the program so they can line their greedy pockets at the expense of the sport and it's fans. They take it to the next level. Even the twitter or instagram or whatever the hell it is segment is only there so people help them advertise by tagging them on social media. It's not about the pictures. The more I think about it, the more I can't stand Feld.

If they went by laps outdoors almost all the tracks are around 2 min lap times. Wouldn't change much. And shorter outdoor moto's mean less racing for the spectators dollar. Might as well just go watch local races then. I am just wondering when some of you guys realize there will never be NASCAR type fans in MX. Racing dirt bikes is a nich sport. All types of bike racing. Money will never be like the other sports. But it's good to still keep pushing instead of sitting back.

I like it, but the tracks are not holding up. 17-18 250f mains & 22 plus 450 Mains leaves the track pretty dangerous by the end of the 450 main.

I think Feld also sucks, they really need someone else to run the SX Circus Show. It is all about the money, as it always will be. Still do not understand how the riders purse money is such a small amount and a total joke, more like a slap in the face. A $500.00 or $1000.00 Holeshot Award is almost what the winners purse money is, what a joke, and the riders are the show. Something is very wrong with our sport. The riders also racing the Outdoor Nationals are getting screwed on purse money and Holeshot Awards. I wonder if DC could explain why that is? He should know the answer if anybody.

I like it but they need to do something about the tracks, it's crazy how much it breaks down because of a few extra laps for each of the mains. For rider safety they need to get more dirt to put down.

I love it. If anyone is confused by the concept of a timed race than surely their shoes must be tied with Velcro.

So far the timed races have provided more opportunities for excitement.

San Diego was epic with the extra laps. Oakland was awesome. Dallas saw a different 250 winner because of the extra laps.

If track wear is too much because there are 6-10 extra main event laps, and they can't get more dirt in the corners, then maybe drop the number of riders in the main event back to 20 instead of 22.

Yeah less guys make the main, but then there are less lappers, and in theory 100 +/- less laps on the track during the mains.
2/21/2017 12:52am
If the tracks are like Glendale no problem.
Would like more dirt and better track maintenance. 2 moto format would be great !
