I'm sorry i thought this thread was about this year my bad.

For this year the first two rounds it was Roczen now Tomac certainly has more speed and Marvin is showing hes got the speed to run RD down pass him and pull away.
I'm sorry RD is a great rider but he does not possess the raw speed of others but is more consistent. He is aware of that and knows when he needs to push right now i don't think he is concerned too much.
You must have missed the 2nd race where he hung with Roczen and those two gapped the whole field.

Dungey's doing what he does best, being smart not crashing. Was Dungey off? Perhaps but don't forget, I've said this many times before, finishing 3rd on an off night! He knows what he's doing, he's not worried..yet.

Waiting for tomac to yard sale and then just cruise into a title.

Dungey will wrap the championship up before Vegas.

My speculation is that Ryan is not pushing it and salvaging what he can. I think the last three tracks didn't hold up well and he didn't want to risk catastrophe.

How many riders were on the same lap as the leaders at the end of the race last night? The track was getting sketchy

Or the race he was leading that Roczen crashed out of. We have real short memories in this sport, when it is convenient to do so. People hung on Tomac's 5 moto outdoor speed in 15' until about 3 weeks ago.

I am a huge Dungey fan, and feel he is struggling a bit. If you think he does not possess the "raw speed" of name your favorite rider, you're delusional. Take a look at wins and qualifying over the past 7 seasons, including this season. ALWAYS in the mix. Most of the others are in it for a week or two and mid pack to DNF on others. Dungey is just a machine. If you feel like it's a diesel powered machine, so be it. Have you looked at stock tq/hp numbers of the new diesels?

Be happy he is "off" or else all you boo-birds would just be complaining how boring this season is, blah blah blah....

Nobody can gain 18 points on him without a major mishap. Which will have to be mechanical because he is avoiding doing it himself. Tomac won 3/4 and what is the total point change between him and Dungey before and after it?

You guys are nuts. Here are some facts:

Tomac crashed last week and threw 25 points away due to poor judgement
Roczen is sat in hospital having just had his eighth surgery
Dungey finished on the podium AGAIN
Dungey is the championship leader with a significant points advantage
Everyone else is out of the championship battle already

Every other rider wishes their bad weekends were thirds. Human beings aren't robots, Dungey knows his limits and pushes them where appropriate.

When it's all said and done Dungey will be one of the winningest riders of all time, with the biggest bank account, and the fewest injuries. And the hottest wife.

The title is nowhere near wrapped up. To think so is delusional. Losing points to your 2 biggest threats 2 out of 3 weeks isnt steady as she goes. Marvin was down, what?20? 2 weeks ago, 16 this week. Tomac is steady cutting in to it as well. It is nowhere near being over. I wouldnt be surprised if it continues to get cut and the red plate goes to his teammate

Back in 09 we saw Stew throw it away at the start of the season and then claw back a massive points gap and take the championship. As a Reed fan, it was tough to watch. Tomac still has time. Despite some of you saying 9 races left, there are actually 10! Dunge can't afford to relax. Who knows what is going on for him but even if he walked away tomorrow, he goes down as one of the greats. He has already spoken about being unhappy with the amount of track time they are getting before having to race on tracks that appear more sketchy this year. Maybe it is simply that he just wants to get through the year and walk away healthy. They are professionals so they know what they are doing but damn, that Roczen crash. Could have been any of them. It isn't like he is slow, he just doesn't seem to be pushing quite as hard as some of the other guys. I'm guessing that if the points gap tightens up further over the next few weeks he probably turns it up again... Will be interesting to watch.

Also, GO TOMAC! :D

Nothing wrong with Dungey, he's hot favorite to win the title.
2/19/2017 3:32pm
Ryan is amazing at managing his season, but as others are saying there's no way he can afford to be bleeding points away this early. Unless Eli makes another big mistake (which of course is perfectly possible) then that points lead will be gone in just a few races, and Dungey will then have to stop him on pure speed.

He could really do with a win next weekend.

I don't know. But one thing is for sure. Both Marvin and Eli are better right now.

But he has a 16 point lead over Marvin. So i wouldn't push the panic button yet.
2/19/2017 3:53pm
He choses to lose a couple of points instead of the lead.

Some nights you're better, other nights you're not. In the end it's the championship points that matter.

When they both got a decent start, I actually thought Dungey was going to hang with Tomac as he did with Roczen at San Diego. I was surprised when Tomac started to gap Dungey. That was his chance to shut us all up haha

2009 Had what, two guys that could win races? The way field is today it will be easier for Tomac n Musquin to gain points as to what Stewart had to go through to gain points.

He seems to have backed it down since Rocczen crash. Kind of sitting on his points lead, but other contenders have stepped up. He will soon be in jeopardy of losing lead, he then will have to turn it up, and will be fight to the finish.

Ryan rides to win championships, and to win at life. Ain't no sweat in his brow with a 3rd on a shitty track.

Everyone runs around with their hair on fire.
Ryan rides at a level where he has full control of his entire skill set.
Total Strength under Total Control...as a recent speaker said at the USMCA Summit.

Ryan's genius is in controlling his ego and having a VERY intelligent strategy/set of tactics.

Not a fan of Ryan Dungey myself, but that is just my opinion. He has just always been a very boring rider, not a whole lot of excitement watching him ride or even give a podium speech or interview. He never really seems to ever just go for it when he races. He does not really seem to care about winning say like Hannah, RC or JS7 did. They hated to loose and and anything less was unacceptable. They are the like the rabbit and Dungey is the turtle. But his boring smart riding is very effective and it does win a few * championships when all the exciting riders are injured. I do believe he would like to be able to walk away from this sport on his own without any major or life altering injuries and have enough money to live a good life and provide for his family. And that is where Dungey is very smart and I do not blame him one bit, because that is very smart. I hope he is able to leave the sport on his terms. I do not see Dungey hanging around the sport like Windham or Reed, he will retire soon.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Ryan.

On the contrary, "all is right".

Red number plate with a healthy 16 points to his favor, riding smart, and staying calm cool and collected.

Sure, anything can happen with in 17 races, and with 10 races still to go he is doing pretty damn good.

Now just enjoy the remaining events, the outdoors will be here before you know it.

But then that's just my opinion.

Dungey wants to win the war. Not the battle. He chooses wisely. Surprised so many people asking what is wrong with Dungey. Dude has a healthy points lead. What the hell more do you want. I'm not even a Dungey fan but this questions are just dumb. He's coming to the end of his career. Has a nice points lead. Smart move is to manage this and ease it inif possible. Regardless of if that is the popular opinion or not on the interwebs.
